what?

redden's an inside midfielder, a stoppage player.

i dont reckon we need macdonald. bennell's our man to fill that role for the next 10 years.

Redden's an good young inside midfielder.

Rischeitelli's a midfielder/tagger.

Adcock started HB as a youngster but has graduated to play midfield last year.

Apart from that dee64 is correct.

Joels not a bad player but he's not great.

I would give Bennell, Strauss first crack. Maric and Blease might play a lil bit there to learn the craft.

Plus Bruce, Grimes, Trengove, and even Jmac will spend time accross a back flank i really doubt we have any need for the bloke.

I think a bit depends on McDonald's work ethic and character - which is why I'm worried he got delisted in the first place.

Let me present the case FOR - At his age and with some experience he would be good to bring in and make some of the real youngsters earn their spot. Also I wouldn't call him a list clogger because he is certainly good enough to play in a very good team and at his age he should be around when we climb toward the top. The negative is that he could holt development of more talented young players - Strauss, Bennell etc but I'm not sure about that arguement. I think if they are going to work hard and make it then one additional player wont hurt their chances. It might actually make them better players because they find out earlier what level they need to get to. It's also a long season, with injuries they will get there chance regardless.

Also I believe McDonald is a mid sized defender and should aim to compete with spots with Bruce (last couple of years), Garland (out injured, may end up a forward or taller stronger defender), Bell (out of form is being kind), McNamara (still raw), Cheney (don't rate highly) and Grimes (might be destined to the midfield). It's not exactly like trying to fit into the Geelong midfield.

I'll be happy with whatever decision the club makes with this bloke.

The comparisons were, to a large degree, silly.

As the Prof said, McDonald is not the same type of player as Redden, Rischitelli or Adcock.
