Bancroft overlooked

Lets not pretend Bancroft was the clear cut choice

Why 18 months? Not 12 or 24? Seems an interesting timeframe. Almost like it’s intended to include Renshaw’s County games from 2022.. but exclude Bancrofts shield performance from the start of 2022.

Didn't do a great job of if it was really some sort of pro Renshaw propaganda, if they really were doing it that way they would have gone back to April to include the rest of his county numbers that season and his average would have been even higher. Fell off at the back end of that county season. On to the next conspiracy theory.

They could have done 12 too, and Renshaw's average would also still be higher.

Let’s exclude Smith from any reference to technique - his technique is unique, not conventional and not coach able
I have to disagree on this.

He has his own eccentricities, but I consider Smith to be quite a classical batsman. He bats as a lot of players did from pre-WWII to the early '60s. Backlift to gully, open stance, split grip, heavy bottom hand coiled right around the handle.

Other than that he plays straight and with a high elbow, and his footwork is pretty good. He is certainly not Sehwag.

But if we're fair dinkum we put the 32 year old out to stud and go with Green from here on out and we don't need to invent a makeshift opener for the sake of it.

Speaking of people doing gymnastics to get people in the team they want. I am not a Marsh fan and was pissed off he ever got back in the side but he's performed and he's currently the in form batsmen of the side. In no way should he be making way for anyone right now.

If you take 12 months, it's 53 to 44.

Try reading it

you missed the point........

Renshaw is proven to be not up to test standards - from a sizeable sample as little has less than a year ago in India. If the same applies to Bancroft, that's fine, but almost certainly must also apply to Renshaw.

Decision has been made so it is what it is. But Green and Renshaw will have a lot of pressure on them to score IMO when their time comes, as would Bancroft if it was him.

It’s a calculated punt. I expect smith to go before the Ashes anyway gets there at best.

You dont think smith will make it to the Ashes?

Can't see that happening.

Marsh took Greens spot fair and square and he has performed excellently since then.

I like the way Marsh goes about it tbh, dont know what you dont like about him.

11 of those 14 tests were as a 20-21 year. 8 in tough conditions in India and Bangladesh, 1 in SA the day after having flown in to Cape Town after the sandpaper debacle and 1 where he faced about 15 balls for a 5no before Sydney weather forced Australia to declare. Terrible take to write someone off based on that.

Interested to know much more do you need to see before you do though?

14 Tests is not a small number. And it's not like he's been in the trenches for ages. His last test was less than 12 months ago.

What's the cut line?

Because he has had a lot of chances and usually has found a way to stuff it up.

But he looks to have matured, and seems to know his own game better than before. Good on him.

if my maths is right Marsh is going at an AVG of 66 over the last 12 months in Tests that obviously includes in England and Australia.

pretty remarkable turnaround.

To be fair Cummins isn't exactly going to say "Sorry Cam the fast bowling cartel are still salty you said we knew ball tampering was happening so you probably won't get selected while I'm skipper"

To be fair to Bancroft, the fast bowlers did know. The whole team knew. While I don’t think he should be picked, he was put up to it and was made to take the fall with the other two. He was a junior squad member and should not have been put in that position.

Marsh has cemented Green's spot. Now Australia are copping out and moving the GOAT in order to accommodate their hubris. Its a disgrace. Pick a bloody opener.

TBH Green was averaging 56 in Shield cricket at 21 year old, makes no sense to let him sit out for 4 years which M Marsh probably has left so I like the move, none of the 3 openers Harris, Bancroft or Renshaw are anywhere near as good as Green and S Smith needs a challenge to get him to click again imo.

He ousted Langer after literally whitewashing England in the Ashes. he also literally shat on the team previous sponsor for his own personal views.

If anyone on this forum thinks Cummins wouldn't do the same to Bancroft they need their head read.

that's all well and good but Green has failed to deliver at test level to date in a significant amount of tests.

he should not be gifted games based on what he can be. Smith openly asking to open has made this decision a lot easier than it would have otherwise been.

Well we don't know how toxic the environment actually was at the time in the rooms.

A lot of shit was going in South Africa at the time and the side weren't used to vitriol/personal abuse coming there way from the crowd. They were clearly rattled and in a dark place with an us against the world mentality.

Maybe a stronger minded player would have said no i am not doing this surely there is another way to mess the ball up without taking f... sandpaper out there.

don't want to be a what if guy but he was dropped 3 or 4 times already this summer, credit to him he went on with it and has changed the way he bats which green needs to in tests.

just on bancroft nobody can say Renshaw has earnt the call up over him right? Renshaw failed last year in asia lets not downplay that fact. Renshaw has failed 12 times in a row at test level

Averaged 34 last year. Good to see he make coupla 50s though against depleted Pakistan.

I personally dont think Renshaw deserves it yet but it is what it is. Decision has been made. Plenty on here seem to have Renshaw ahead of Bancroft.

The averages being quoted for Renshaw are highly reliant on his county numbers, not shield ones. The quality of county attacks vs our domestic sides is absolutely relevant. County runs shouldn’t be considered the same as shield ones as the standard here is much higher.

Renshaw looked more comfortable at test level then Bancroft.

Yes it was 6/7 years ago but he is a victim as well now by not having more faith put him when we should have backed him.

2017 series in india he had solid returns he certainly didnt disgrace himself. Got a 180 against Pakistan at the SCG.

And you cant count what happened last year like seriously those pitches everyone was looking stupid. Even the Indians.
