So he get's two down to one for this?

My question is what was Jimmy's alternative? He just stood there and Laird ran into him...

I'm slightly confused.

Thoughts? Maybe I'm missing something.

Think the Crows medical staff painted themselves into a corner when they subbed Laird off to fix his shoulder under the concussion rule and had to put in a medical report stating that contact was made to the head.
Where this contact came from no one has been able to show

Nah...he was always 'gone' on that Jimmy. "Doesn't look good". For the AFL, the first priority is money, second priority is image.

So if AFL cannot sweep it under the carpet (tanking), or at least attempt to sweep it under the carpet (PEDS) they will come down hard on it.

Seriously though - if Jimmy had of just stood there he would have probably been ok, but he did seem to lead with his shoulder into Laird (possible natural protective instinct...but that doesn't matter to the MRP). Thus the MRP found an excuse to penalise him.

Didn't hit him in the head, had no other alternative action to take.
How can they give him 2 weeks?
Especially considering others have gotten off for far worse.

Biggest joke ever, I seriously can't believe how f***** the MRP is, the guys in charge need to have their heads kicked in.

2 weeks is about right, and is what I actually guessed he would get. Turned right into the head of his opponent who had it over the ball.

Nothing to do with the Crows medicos. Prohibited contact rule (15.4.5) actually defines high contact as the head or shoulder if the contact is forward of side on and the player has their head over the ball in anticipation of winning the ball.

What is your opinion on Kings hit?

So apparently Bartel had "other options" when contesting the ball.
No sure exactly what these options are but he had them leading to the suspension

Oh and the reason Pods got done. Douglas stayed down trying to draw the free which proved that he was collected "forcefully"

2 weeks for that.........what a joke!
If Cats don't ****ing appeal I'm defecting to another sport. This is an absolute joke and proof the AFL and its MRP has an agenda against Geelong. What looked worst yesterday Jake King's raised elbow or Jimmy contacting Laird's shoulder?

Just reviewing the footage - where is the head contact?

I saw it happen in the game. I just watched the replay three times. I thought at the time he might be in trouble, and watching the replay reinforces what I thought at the time - it looks as though he drops his shoulder to bump him when it's obvious that Laird is going through with his head down. It's the very last motion that gets him into trouble.

* I haven't watched the Jake King video yet
* I don't want him rubbed out - he's in my DT and SC teams

Don't bother labelling me as soft, etc. I'm just telling you what I thought / think as someone who has no vested interest in the matter and can only guess at what the MRP will decide like everyone else.

Tough call and not worth the penalty. We are playing a contact game and there was nothing malicious in that at all and plenty of incidents worse than that have gone untouched all year.

Chook Lotto continues at the MRP as usual. Cats should appeal it.

Instead of the "two weeks in fair" can you say why? I am genuinely not getting something here.

He gets a penalty for that and Rioli gets nothing for the chicken wing? MRP really is a lotto.

Weak decision for mine, but they'll go a guy for head hits every time unfortunately. Almost looked like Bartel was trying to psyche Laird out by feigning going for the ball, but Laird went in and then they collided.

There doesn't have to be head contact. The top of the shoulder while a bloke has his head over the ball is considered high, all the players know this. They have the rule to avoid neck injuries so in that situation Bartel couldn't make contact with the top of his shoulder and would have to let him go past.

I think he's lucky to only get one week going on what Pav got last week. They classified Pav's as medium contact when the bloke got up and took his kick. Bartel got caused Laird to be subbed out of the game.
