they may as well go for it and get dismissed.

They're not going to get any points out of the game, so why play for the draw?

need over 7 an over now.

I dont understand why they didnt chase it down one day style with an extra 10+ overs to make up for the 4th day pitch. Playing for no points helps the other teams in the comp more than it helps us.

Who else we got?

Steady though, it's only the first game of the season.

Yeah, you're right, i should give him the benefit of last years form... oh wait.

Lets face it, if we want someone to make no runs, you could do that.

Khan in, Ferguson out.

Younis and Cosgrove in, Ferg and Plant out.

Harris
Klinger
Cosgrove
Younis
Borgas
Christian
Manou
Cleary
Cullen
Tait
Rofe
O'Brien 12th if he is lucky. Keep Ferg in local cricket to get some form, instead of running drinks out :thumbsu:

Exactly why I don't understand the criticism of the Khan signing (generally speaking). We don't have enough talented locals or second XI players from other states to fill the side, why not get a gun international batsman in to a) make runs for the team, b) set an example to said talented locals and c) create competition for spots.

Does Klinger open?

Not sure its a brilliant idea to move him from the middle order when hes performed well this year. As always we need to find a genuine opener. I once thought they could groom Ferg for that role, but his continued run of nothingness has destroyed that hope.

He bats at #3 for us it seems anyway. Thats basically opening in this team anyway. :D

On a serious note, I was under the impression that he opened for Victoria when he played for them? And thats why he came to SA when Rogers went to Victoria?

Also disappointed that Shane Deitz didnt get a new contract, he had a rather reasonable couple of years in my opinin, and at one stage he even ousted Manou from the Keeper's role

with Deitzy gone we've got no other keeper either. Who knows what we'll do if Manou gets injured or something along those lines.

In other news Ben Cameron has retired from Cricket and will play his last game for Tea Tree Gully this saturday and next saturday

When's Fergie ever made Grade runs? on the other hand..Cosgrove ave 38.5..Fergie 33.4..in FC Cricket
the rest average below 30...Cosgrove is an opener but never been allowed to play there

Who is making runs though?? Ferguson hasn't played to his potential no but neither have the Borgas brothers, Cosgrove, Plant etc. No one is making runs for us anyway so who cares? If we bring in someone else they'll just fail like the rest of the team, you'll complain that they aren't performing and the cycle will start again. It happens every year because every year we are shit.

Khan in, Ferguson out.

And when Khan leaves after 6 games? Only a bandaid solution.

Is Weeks still on our list? Noticed he's the highest run scorer in grade cricket so far this season and the 2nd or 3rd highest wicket taker.

I agree with ICDM, Ferguson despite lack of results is still in our best XI.

If we started dropping players for lack of results Klinger and Tait would have to play by themselves.

I think ideally the team looks like:

Klinger
Harris
Khan
Ferguson
Cosgrove
O'Brien
Manou
Cullen
Tait
Wise
Rofe

And yes I realise that could be the longest tail in history:eek: I'm just not a huge Cleary fan in four day cricket.

But I like the look of Khan being able to bat with Ferguson and Cosgrove to give them a bit of leadership and guidance out there on the field (which they're sorely lacking, from practically their first matches they've been forced to be on field leaders, especially when Boof was away). This also allows a fairly reliable, steady start to the innings with Klinger and Harris.

Edit: Maybe Borgas in for one of Ferguson or O'Brien depending on form. More likely O'Brien if everyone's playing to their potential (I can dream can't I)

Thats about what id have although Plant may have done just enough to earn another crack. Question then is who do you drop for Khan ?? Im beginning to have my doubts about Ferg. He just doesnt make the most of the good starts he gets but then again he could be one biggie away from clicking, so perhaps he makes way, which enables us to leave Klinger in the middle order for the time being.

On the bowling side of thingsI like Wise in there for a bit of left arm variety and he does have a bit of pace about him. I dont rate Cleary as a 4 day cricketer either but perhaps he stays in because he is capable of scoring a quick few runs from time to time. Hopefully Cullen can have a decent season and is able to back up Tait, Wise and the other pacemen instead of getting them to chase his bowling around the oval.

Christian? I dont rate O'Brien much. I thought Christian had a solid start with us last year, which should be better this year now he has settled in properly. Bailey also knows how to handle a bat so maybe MAnou could bat at 6, Cleary 7, Bailey at 8, Cullen Tait and Rofe to finish off the tail. 3 quicks and two spinners. Our batsmen cant make runs so maybe the bowlers can take wickets!

Thing is though, ferg hasnt played to his 'potential' in about three seasons.

If a new player (preferably someone young) comes in and fails, so be it. The thing i cant stand is the unwaivering faith in mediocre players, and refusal to make any changes to a team that is a state disgrace.

That could also apply to Borgas, though atleast he showed something in the one dayer this week.

And when Khan leaves after 6 games? Only a bandaid solution.

Then you've got 6 more weeks of form in grade cricket to judge the decision on his replacement. At the moment Khan is a defininte in, and Ferguson seems the logical out to me.

Interesting... they both agree.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the high school they went to? ;)

:p

I realise Ferguson's results aren't spectacular, but whenever you go and watch him bat he always looks a million bucks to me.

FWIW the change to bring in Khan for the game on Wednesday is Cosgrove out.

The thing is though, Ferguson has a clear weakness in his game. Hes never 'in'. Good/great players are hard as hell to get out once they get their eye in. Think about it, how often is Ponting out in his 20s or 30s? Once they get a start, they usually atleast cross the half century, and often more.

Ferg however never seems to be 'in' and safe. He seems to get a start, and then get out. Hes never dominating the game from the crease.
