If we beat them we will probably sneak into the 8, but the Roos are a team that have had measure for many years...

It seems it's always the same person who does it - Harvey - and it wouldn't surprise me that Pagan who be whispering into Laidley's ear some dirty tricks on some of his old 'kids'...Who knows?

But the key is stemming his influence? Judd perhaps?

true north are one of our bogeys, but then again who wasn't for the last 6 years.....times have changed and after todays win (albeit to port) the boys have a little sniff of what they are capable of...i have a inkling feeling about this one

....especially if pagan is whispering into laidley's ear...:p

We are a new breed, with new skills and new belief.

We wil go out with belief and should play accordingly.

We owe the roos for that Flogging in round 21 last year.

I think the thing witht he Roos is they just battle, we need to brake their spirit early, scoreboard pressure is the key.

Play Gibbs on Harvey (thats not a tag, make it a 1 on 1 matchup) and make Harvey accountable and let Gibb, Harvey is a free running flog.

Maybe Grigg is another option.

They don't have key forwards, so we can exploit them there with hard running from the backline.

We are a real chance, and for confidence going into the away game agaisnt the Lions we need to a hard fought win.

No doubt Harvey is the key man to stop he has had an outstadning season and always cuts us up. Gibbs, Grigg even Armfiled should rotate on him and we should really try to verbal / rough him up. I think we again should go in with the 3 prong ruck attack.

IIRC, it's ususally been Harvey and Grant in the past that has done the damage, with Rawlings usually doing a job on Stevens. I'd actually go with Gibbs on Harvey, and perhaps rotate another player on him, maybe Grigg.

I'd also play Carrazzo and Armfield on their small forwards in Campbell and Thomas. And between Thornton, Jamison and Waite, we should have enough tall backs to take care of their forwards. IF we play to our best, there is no reason why we can't win this game on Sunday.

speaking of armfield, hes going to be a great player.was very good today

Was ****ing fantastic! Came out in the first quarter like his career depended on it. Fast, tough, BRAVE, skilled - can kick, never gives up and keeps on running. He is EXACTLY what we were looking for. A little dynamo.

Roos are like Collingwood, they are a team of battlers which lack individual brilliance. The key is breaking their confidence - if we can annoy them, tag them, scrag them, and block their play they will get frustrated and start playing for themselves. We need to break their spirit.

Gibbs on Harvery is a must.

Should be a fair crowd, our home game too, so maybe the extra few people can cheer us over the line?

Grant, Campbell and that other small guy are the problem... everytime we play sides with these types like Milne we struggle

Yeah but we've been good against Medhurst, Farmer and Motlop this year. In the case of Milne, I think we just played crap against St Kilda. Harvey is the danger man. Make no mistake, he is a superstar. We do a good job of controlling the corridor, but often we leave it open when we turn the ball over going forward. Guys like Harvey and Harding can cut us up in that area.

Still the key is the clearances. Luckily we don't have Macintosh to worry about but they'll still have the edge with Hale. We should have the better midfield at ground level. Personally I'll be disappointed if we lose this...

That would be a godsend

Dennis - Yeah dean , kick the ball long to the opposition backs

Dean - thats what you told me 12 years ago .

I don't think that Harvey is a natural match for Gibbs who does well on mobile outside runners - Del Santo, Goodes, Cornes etc. I would have thought that someone like Murphy, Armfield, or even Grigg might be the way to go on Harvey.

I also wouldn't have thought Gibbs on Goodes would have been a good matchup, but he did a great job on him. Carlton have always struggled to keep Harvey in check, so Gibbs would be as good an option as anyone. FWIW, he'd be my first choice.

We most importantly need to match their work rate and enthusiasm. We have momentum and need to keep it going. We MUST play disciplined fundamentals based football. Chase, tackle, win the ball and use it well. Spread out, link up and deliver. We too often against the Roos allow them to dictate terms

Roos are pounding the Dogs at the moment there goes our finals spot.

1. Cats
2. Hawks
3. Dogs
4. Swans
5. Roos
6. Pies
7. Crows
8. ????

We can still get there with 2 wins. 3 will guarantee it.

Lions have a tough run. Dogs (h), Carlton (h), Swans (a). Our destiny will be in our own hands. We have to win that one.

Saints are a game clear but have 3 50/50s considering present form. We need them to lose 2 of them or cop a couple of floggings.

Bombers need to win every game and gain percentage. Tough ask.

Tigers need to win last 3 including the Hawks, assuming they do not come back in the second half today.

* We MUST beat Brisbane and beat one of North or Hawthorn - minimum.
* Saints must lose 2 of Freo, Essendon and Dogs I think.
* Brisbane must lose to Sydney.
* Tigers must lose to Hawthorn.

The hard part is Carlton's ... winning 2 of the last 3 and not getting flogged in the other. We will be up against it.

The other hard part is hoping the Saints lose to Dogs and either Essendon or Freo at Subi. I'm happy to call 50/50 on this one.

Good assessment, I was never counting on North's spot being free, we either need collingwood to really fall to pieces or Saints to lose those 50/50's as you say. They lost against eagles at subi, so i would give freo every chance of beating them.
