Beatlesmith's Top 40 Phantom draft (with explanations) *UPDATED*
Tom Scully (Melbourne)- Standout mid of the draft, quality in all areas.
Jack Trengove (Melbourne)- Another outstanding midfield prospect, will be able to go KP later
Dustin Martin (Richmond)- Have been very interested. His inside abilities will compliment guys like Cotchin and Deledio
Anthony Morabito (Fremantle)- Best available, giving them another strong midfield prospect
Ben Cunnington (North Melbourne)- Hard nosed midfielder, replacing Simpson, Harris
Gary Rohan (Sydney)- Electrifying prospect who will put bums on seats to see him play. Could go with Butcher, but will be putting faith in White
Kane Lucas (West Coast)- No brainer really; best available midfielder, complimenting strong inside ranks
John Butcher (Port Adelaide)- Big steal. Could go Tapscott, but I reckon they are in more need of a replacement for Tredrea than one for Cornes
Luke Tapscott (Port Adelaide) After getting a quality KPF, Adelaide will look at local boy Tapscott as a replacement for Cornes, adding a big body to their midfieldand with his ready-made-ness will help ease the blow of losing Burgoyne
Koby Stevens (Essendon) Perhaps a bit of a reach considering his injury past, but make no mistake, Stevens is up there with the best midfielders in this draft, and I think is the best available. After sorting out KPP replacements in previous years, Essendon now must look to build a quality midfield unit.
Matthew Panos (Melbourne)- After getting 2 midfielders, Panos will compliment their squad, particularly Watts, perfectly
Daniel Talia (Carlton)- With no outstanding KPF option, I think they will get Talia, who for me is clearly the best available, aswell as fulfilling a need. Given his versatility, Carlton will have the flexibility of either grooming him as a defender, allowing Waite to play forward permanently, or as a Fevola replacement up forward.
Lewis Jetta (Adelaide)- Gives them a great wingman replacement for Mcleod in the long term, and gives them a possible crumbing option in the short term
Jack Fitzpatrick (Sydney)- They will pt faith in White, but they still need more youth in the KP stakes, and Fitzpatrick gives flexibility as both a ruckman or KPF prospect.
Ben Griffiths (WB)- Yes, they are getting Hall, but Griffiths will continue the newly founded monster KPF tradition, and has simply epic potential.
Roland Ah Chee (Port Adelaide)- Similar ilk to Burgoyne, a SA boy and a quality young prospect.
Aaron Black (Geelong)- Real bolter. In his quality marking and great kicking, I think he will suit Geelong's needs perfectly.
Brad Sheppard (Melbourne)- Highly rated HBF, releasing Grimes in to a permanent midfield role
Jake Carlisle(Richmond)- The best KPF available, making up for passing on Butcher
Troy Taylor (Fremantle)- They have big wraps on him and are very interested. Will look to make him a KPF, in an effort to replace Pavlich in the long run. Doubt he'll last much longer, so they will have to pounce now.
Allen Christensen (Nort Melbourne)- After going with an inside mid, they will add some pace and class to their young midfield ranks
Ryan Bastinac (West Coast)- Bit of a slider, but is the best available, and after getting Lucas, they will look for a more inside option, rather than Duncan.
Travis Colyer (West Coast)- Can't see them going past his combination of pace and class. Will give a short term crumbing option too.
Mitch Duncan (Essendon)- A steal at 24, Duncan is surely the best available, and is a needed midfielder.
Jordan Gysberts (North Melbourne)- One of the best available, adding to Cunnington, Ziebell and Christensen in forming a qualityyoung midfield.
Jake Melksham (Essendon)- Best available, giving another strong midfield option
Tom Hill (Brisbane)- Fevola and Brown is one thing, but losing Henderson leaves them with a gap in youth in that area, leaving Hill to be the successor.
Nathan Vardy (Geelong)- Not many pressing needs, but with Mumford gone, they will need a prospect to potentially take over from Ottens.
Alex Carey (Adelaide)- Local boy who is one of the best available, adding to their strong young midfield stakes
Sam Reid (Collingwood)- Athletic key defender, eventually replacing Presti. Uniting brothers, and is a steal anyway.
Kyle Hartigan (WB)- The Bullies shore up their KP Defensive stocks with a no-nonsense defender
Jesse Crichton (StK)- Best available pick, and a good one at that
Callum Bartlett(Essendon)- Best available. He is a risk, but Essendon like to take them, and Bartlett offers enormous potential reward.
Max Gawn (Melbourne)- To cap off a great draft, Melbourne grab a huge, athletic ruckman, where they lack depth atm.
Ryan Harwood (Richmond)- Best available, giving a replacement for a Bowden type
Mark Hutchings (Fremantle)- Hard as nails inside mid, just what they need. Local lad too.
Nicholas Winmar (North Melbourne)- High Risk, High Reward pick, giving them more pace and excitement
Dylan Mcneil (Sydney)- Local boy who is hard at it and puts his body on the line, just how they like it
Andrew Moore (Hawthorn)- Will suit their needs, acting as a O'keefe-esque link between the forward line and midfield, and is up there as the best available.
Josh Donaldson (Geelong)- Gangly high potential KPP. Plays in the ruck in current competitions, but with his lack of height, great athleticism and ability to read the play, I see Geelong grooming him as a KPD, and eventual replacement for Scarlett, or short term replacement for Harley
Reshuffled a bit according to the completed trades as of the end of trade week.
