St. Kilda are in talks with big Beau...perhaps we could see him down at Moorabin next year?
He's a good player if he can stay on the park...we don't need another injury prone player on our list!

What is it with us picking up old hacks! FFS either pick up a top line ruckman or draft a quality one. No more Doc Clarke's or Hackland's.

McDonald has been tearing it up at AFLQ level, he isn't that old i think you will find that he is 27 or 28, as you know ruckman really hit their peak as they get that bit older. McDonald would walk into many AFL teams due to his great tap work. If McDonald came to the saints he would have an impact because he would get your midfield moving forward. Hopefully he stays at the lions.

Dud.

Worse than Rix.

Hasn't had double-figures disposals in a match since 2003.

That would not be a good basis for concluding he is a dud. Firstly he has (once:p) and secondly, Charman is one who spends a lot of time on the ground, so Beau has not had the opportunity to get much game time.

It is true that Beau has limitations around the ground, but from what we have seen this year he is still quite good in the ruck, and he wasn't a weak link when he played for the Lions this year.

Clubs may think Beau has a limited upside and they may be weary of his history on injuries, but to call him a dud is a little unfair IMO. He is after all a dual premiership player.

FWIW i hope the Lions keep him, he is contracted until the end of 2008 and whilst he has never played every game of a season, he is good back-up for us and is popular amongst the players, hence i see no reason for us to let him go. Beau's year-by-year games:
1998 - 3 games, 1 goal
1999 - 3 games, 0 goals
2000 - 22 games, 7 goals (Rising Star Nomination & Best First Year Player)
2001 - 23 games, 7 goals + premiership
2002 - 15 games, 2 goals + premiership
2003 - 9 games, 1 goal
2004 - 0 games, 0 goals
2005 - 0 games, 0 goals
2006 - 8 games, 1 goal
2007 - 8 games, 0 goals
Total of 91 games and 19 goals in 10 years

jeezz, he sure has turned it on since winning those two flags:rolleyes:

whatever wasnt implying that hes good or anything, i agree hes been pretty shite, but cant blame a guy who badly screwed his knee

Of course not but given our Injury record and we already have Gardiner and Hamill; I don't know if we want to add another one

Injury prone, clutzy, unlucky, too old, not worth anything in a trade, wouldn't want him at your club...fair enough, but no dud. Was a very good tap ruckman when playing in the premiership years. Just got killed by injury.

We don't need another injury prone ruckman, especially if we are to offer Gardiner a new deal. We'd be better off making a play for Ben Hudson. I think any talk of chasing Cameron Wood is silly, he's a promising young ruckman who Brisbane would be reluctant to let go. While they have Charman and Leuenberger they'd be mad to get rid of Wood unless we offered them a very significant deal.

Premierships mean SFA.

Aaron Keating played 5 matches, and one of them was a premiership with Adelaide as a ruckman.

McDonald is a dud.
I stand to be corrected, but the reason Aaron Keating probably only played 5 games could be to do with the nearly fatal bashing he got........ Believe it left him partly impaired. Sketchy on the facts, but it was something like that.......(I think)..

No more trades for old duds. We have a cheap ond potentially great ruck sitting in the medical rooms hopefully ready for next year. There is our quick fix. Draft for depth and go from there.

Beau MacDonald wasn't and isn't a hack. He was a pretty decent ruckman in his earlier years, but has since been cruelled by injuries, and sadly, his best is probably behind him. I'm not advocating we pick him up, but it's a bit much to read that a two-time premiership ruckman in one of the best ever teams is a "hack". He's probably played much better footy than any of us has ...

StKilda will probably make beau mcdonald an offer. 3rd round pick to brisbane perhaps? We still need secuity if gardiner doesn't come up - why do you think we picked up m clarke?

Van Rheenan probably won't be elevated. It's quite clear lyon doesn't rate brooks. Koschitzke needs to play forward a lot more with gehrig gone.

That leaves us with Rix and J Blake.

Id prefer cameron wood, but perhaps he's too young to be a sides no1 ruckman.
Mcdonald for our 3rd round pick is purely for insurance next season.
Turns 29 next season, so still a few seasons left in him yet.

It's clear lyon wants a ready made backup tap ruckman.

I agree with you there Punter

I would predict the saints will chase after Jolly and Hudson first (they are better) However, i don't want to give up our number 9 pick. I still have very big doubts, if Gardnier can play a whole season in the ruck, or even half a season. When was the last time he did that? Quite a while ago.

Blake in the ruck spells trouble - we will get belted in the hitouts:(

Plzz no... why would we pick up another hack?

Now I probably should just lay off as it's inconsequential...but i'm not sure you guys seem to remember him playing back then (if you ever even watched him). Sure, a little raw and clumsy (as most 200cm+ young guys are) but was definitely no dud or hack. Was a very good, young tap ruckman, premierships or not, who had all the 'potential' in the world before getting caned by injury. I agree that Hudson, Wood or Meeson or any of those suggested are definitely worth more at the trade table and are probably better investment but...no hack!
