According to 'Slimes' the following players have put on significant bulk after weights programmes

Doogs
Selwood
Munro
Kerr
Judd
Chick

meanwhile most players have recorded record speed and endurance test results.

The extra bulk will certainly help Munro, who IMO is very skillfull but was easily pushed off the contest.

Very good news if Doogs has bulked up. Were going to need him this year to fix our spine up. The stronger he is the better he's going to play imo!

Its rather good that Munro has beefed up. Maybe he is in less danger of floating off into space now.

The one I was surprised about was Chick- I thought he looked a bit lighter in the last TV report I saw.

It said he had beefed up in the chest area, so it means he is now 2 and a half axe handles across instead of the plain 2

Hehehe :D :D :D

Maybe it would have been better if he did not bulk up...I am sure that there are number of supporters here, me included, that would have been more then happy to provide him with a lift off...

Seriously though if he has bulked up, say by 5%, he may be a decent player next year. Thought I personally doubt this...

I'm sure there are reports each year that Munro has bulked up in the pre-season. The proof will be in the pudding (which I hope Munro eats)

Don't read anything into it. Every year players have their 'best' preseason ever, run PB times, lift PB weights. Quite frankly, if these young guys trained and didn't improve, you'd be worried.

Agreed.

Usual statements clubs like to give to give some hope to supporters who want a flag in a hurry who are willing to pay for a membership for a "premiership year"

Sounds the goods; just hope Judd’s bulking up does not detriment his speed in breaking away from packs. It shall help him bustle off those diving opponents that are chasing him as he charges into goal though which shall be good to watch I hope. :)

Chick beefing up??? Wouldnt that make him slower, i thought his aim was to play in our midfield, and we have a very good quick midfield.

About time Munro puts on some wait, my sister could beat him up! Also McDougall needed to put on weight, now hopefully he can hold down a KP!
Cheers

I well remember a beefed up Benny coming out a few seasons ago. Almost unrecognisable. Sometinmes there is a lot to be read into such articles methinks.

Hopefully he's "bulked up" between the ears, otherwise theres no point in physically bulking up if you can't use it effectively.

Yeah, thats it, use a multi AA, 3 time B&F winner and club captain to justify your argument. Can't wait till all these 'bulked up' players having the best preseason of their lives hit the park.

It really depends what they mean by bulking up. Infact players can put a significant amount of muscle and actually get faster. I am not sure if you have seen any of the sprinters like Lingford Christie and Matt Shervington, even somebody like a bronze medalist in 400m Darren Clarke, all of these guys have serious bulk and are supper quick.

Where they may suffer is their endurance and may get more leg injuries due to added weight placing too much strain on their legs. What really is requierd is a good balance between strength, bulk and endurance.

Relating all of this back to Chick, well he has a relatively tall frame with large shoulders and I dare say that he can still afford to put on some more muscle. In addition to this whilst his goal may be to play in the midfield the extra weight may also prolonge his career by improving his versatility even further.

By the way I just read TheWest website apperently Dockers are beefing up too...

What I would like to know with so much beef around is there a shortage of bovine in Western Australia and has there been a recent price hike on beef... Maybe its time to put some pork on your fork...

Dockers Beef Up

(Its 11.15pm here and I am just finishing reading stuff for work tomorrow and I think I have finally lost the plot)

Now we are trimming down.

http://thegame.thewest.com.au/20040129/afl/news/tg-afl-new-sto119106.html

"Brent Staker and Mark Seaby have been here for a couple of years so we've accelerated how we'd like to get some weight on those types of guys," he said. "There's quite a few of the squad who've put on two or three kilos over summer.

Staker needed the weight and if Seaby turned his weight into muscle then that could be a good thing.

"Others have lost two or three kilos and we were targeting that as well - guys like Quinten Lynch. Glen Jakovich has lost another kilo, Daniel Chick has fined down a bit, Chad Morrison has lost about four kilos, David Wirrpunda has lost about three kilos.

With the loss of a few Kilos Lynch might actually find an extra yard of pace. Wirrpunda should be able to fly with his weight loss.

Over our way, we call it the Bandy Factor... every year you'd read at this time of the year that Daniel Bandy was running PBs, gaining weight, lifting PBs and we'd get all excited, then the real stuff would start and he'd still be Daniel Bandy, playing like Daniel Bandy.
I should check out the training news from the Western Bulldogs... bet there's a Bandy story there somewhere.
