Probably been mentioned before but aren't Essendon people worried about the amount of money forked out for a player that misses a lot of football through injury.
Bombers do need a KPD, this move is a very high-risk list management strategy imo.

Meh we suck.

We get bags kicked on us already, and our main key defender from that is leaving.

We have oodles of cap space, and the best key defender available on the market wants to come to us, for free (outside of salary cap space).

It’s a no brainer.

I would hope the club has done some thorough medicals before committing to a 5 year deal.

Maybe two years ago when North had Noble , Luff etal in charge of recruiting.

As if Thursfield, Viney, Clarkson would bend over for that.

You may not know Clarkson well, but he has a long history of folding over trades. It is actually difficult to find a trade he didn't fold over based on public opinion at the time (rather than in retrospect). Players like Wingard, JOM, Burgoyne and Lake were all supposedly massive overpays at the time (with a wide variety of outcomes).

Folding at the trade table is the Clarko way.

I imagine the plan would be to exchange 3 for what will wind up as 9. I don't think Essendon would pay overs either as North receiving pick 3 for McKay is in Essendon's hands, not North's. I'm curious what that deal might look like.

Yep. The afl would have to tick it off so it would have to be reasonably fair.

If the bombers could get 13 I could see it as a straight swap of 2 for 8 and 13 (obviously those drift out).

If not, 2 for 8 and F1, with maybe norths F20 coming back.
