I see AFLCV has appointed a new netball manager and guess where she is from ………………………..

She's doing that and the BUA coordinator role.

If she's able to do both of them no worries it makes you question how much money they've pissed away on a BUA stand alone admin officer.

Timely article in the Addy, Maine calling for revisit on divisions.

Someone has been reading….
It is time to go down this road. No solution is perfect but this to me has a lot of merit and is long overdue. For a start Caleb Kuhle, as president of Castlemaine has more credibility than just about anyone else in the Central Victoria football region. Who else would know more than him the struggles and issues that a country club faces. What jumps out at me is he is even looking beyond his own club as to what is better for football. This is a man of integrity and vision.

I think putting the stronger Heathcote & Loddon Valley Clubs into say Division two would make that a very interesting division. It would produce games like White Hills v Marong. No distance travels problems in this set up. Division three would be the struggling clubs. They would be facing other clubs in the same situation so more chance of even matches. The biggest challenge to any club's supporter base is getting belted week after week. Some clubs (hopefully all) may resent being in Division three. The answer is simple - improve and get promoted. You won't be playing the likes of Golden Square to achieve this.

Division one could start with the current BNFL clubs less Maryborough. I know the instant answer from many will be this is a scheme to prop up the BFNL. Well there won't be a BFNL anymore. This set up can have a new administration where every club in the three divisions can nominate reps for the now district board. The next argument will be that many clubs won't be able to compete against the likes of Sandhurst or Gisborne. The answer can be that the premiers in Division two, say Marong for example, are not forced up into Division one. It can be a voluntary choice. They can stay in Division two if they prefer.

The BFNL needs to forget about having ten clubs. That is just not going to happen. Eight clubs is realistic and that is the way it was for decades with Echuca & Rochester in the north and Castlemaine & Kyneton in the south and nobody thought it was a problem then. During this period of the 1950's, 1960's and early 1970's the old Bendigo league had its best gates and was well respected throughout country Victoria and beyond. Maryborough starting in Division two gives the eight starting clubs for Division one. If a club like White Hills wins the Division two flag and wants to have a crack at Division one because they think their overall set up with juniors is up to it they can have a crack at it if they want to.

Caleb Kuhle is not the president of Sandhurst, Golden Square or Gisborne so there is nothing that can be perceived with suspicion about his motives. Mergers can still happen where it is in the interest of clubs. New clubs could still come into the overall competition. However is really is time for change and this is frankly most logical, sensible and achievable suggestion.

I think that the league/commission/council/secret society or whatever they are calling themselves this week has to have a number one priority of doing something proactive to shore up football in the BFNL and the region before Gisborne gives up with the procrastination and heads to the Ballarat league.

What have they said?
Filo essentially said the comp is doomed, an 8 team/14 game season isn’t attractive to potential recruits or helpful with player retention, and that the standard of a supposed premier comp is miles off (and getting further behind) a comp like O&M.
O’Sullivan said the country clubs joined forces and met with the league 5 years ago to spell out their concerns, otherwise there would be serious trouble ahead. Surprise surprise, it fell on deaf ears…. and now look where we are - fair chance there will only be 1 country club remaining next year.

Too late I’d say. Gisborne would be absolutely mad if they stayed. Never mind what their President is saying publicly, I’d say they are as good as gone.

Don’t see how it would ruin them if they worked up to it and went in when they were strong and ready to compete.

It could be the best thing they ever do.
Woollen population under 500, yet I read on here constantly that castlemaine and Maryborough with populations close to 10k can't compete. Mounts attract players from the bfl, looking for s community club and have thrived off that with a winning culture

Population is a factor but if you’ve got the resources to overcome that and win division two then why wouldn’t you want a crack at division one?

Or do you mean the guys who play there are looking for a soft kill and wouldn’t step up?

Mounts never been shy to open the chequebook either though Trent

So are you saying that if youve got it and you want to spend it, go for it? Dont think division footy solves any problems to be honest, your still going to have the haves and have nots. HDFL and NCFL dont need restructure at the moment Flat, South, Castlemaine and Maryborough arent going to suddenly improve if they are playing division 2, probably with that scenario they are an even less attractive option.

You mean exactly the same as what happens currently?

The beauty of division footy is it puts the haves and have nots as you put it together and it provides some variation from the drudgery of the same results every year.

If next year a White Hills or Marong came into division one and Castlemaine and Maryborough were mixed with teams like Mounts and Bridgewater it would give everyone a lift, including the clubs remaining in division one. Would be an incredibly engaging and exciting change to footy and the crowds and interest would flow.

Actually I think the most logical option is the one mentoined earlier if Gissy head to Ballarat, Sandhurst, Square, Hawks and Strath head to GV and the others can please themselves.

The GV thread said when this was raised last week that there is little interest in having the four Bendigo clubs. I spoke to an official at one GV club when I was over east last weekend and they said "why should we feel sorry for them if they have effed up their own comp. There is no need for us to bail them out and upset what we have at present".

Unless there was a northern super league of some sort formed that sat above the GVL, O&M and Bendigo, I doubt it would happen. The biggest stumbling block is that you are dealing with AFLCV, AFLGM and the O&MFNL to create such a venture and I doubt the parties would like to concede much power. Who would run it - AFL Vic? Not a chance.
