Massive crowd at the Camp for another great day.

It’s going to go down as a year of nearlys for us unfortunately, another one we were right in and faded in the last.

By the way, for the first time in history, maybe in BFL history, the Magpies used all their points yesterday.

Gisborne on the other hand had 11 up their sleeve despite having three Castlemaine juniors on the field.

Well done AFL Vic, you really are a pack of knobheads.

So its the AFLs fault 3 of your ex juniors find playing footy at Gisborne more enjoyable than playing with you? Dont exactly why you blame them.

It’s got nothing to do with individuals, it’s the system.

You don’t see a problem when a weak club maxes out and a strong club who has raided their playing stocks has plenty spare?

Edit: make that maxes out but is still not competitive

I’ll correct myself. He didn’t play 2 games today due to the forfeit. He did get credited with playing 2’s though as happens when there is a forfeit. Still, not sure I’ve seen an opposition player fill in for a senior game before. Not in a supposed major league, may have happened in some minor leagues.
Current occurrence in the days of permits when leagues had byes

Gisborne had 16 1 point players. Seem to produce good juniors and they are keen on sticking around. Good on them, that’s what makes them a good side. I wouldn’t say they have raided you blokes at all, they got Blake 5 years ago and now the brothers who he’s good mates with. Maybe should focus on why these blokes don’t want to play at the Maine rather than blame gisborne or the system.

Not sure whether this is a good news or bad news story. An Eaglehawk 2’s player was forced to back up playing a second game today. I’ve seen it happen before, but never for the player to switch teams and play seniors for the opposition.

That’s a horrible news story, can’t see how they play each week from here out if they are struggling that much on a quiet weekend. And we haven’t hit gloomy weather yet.

Got more to do with YOUR club than any supposed system which doesnt force anyone to play at any particular club. Time to change the coffee at Castlemaine it must be very bitter. More of the same whinging, poor us metality isnt going to win games of footy.

Why did you max out, played a kid from Kilmore as a 5, ex AFL player as a 5 if both dont play next week and if you replace them with 2 1s from the seconds you back to 38. How many games do Jetta and Eyre play with you?

One of them left Sandhurst, must be culture issues there as well I suppose.

You would have to be an AFL CV employee.

No one could argue that situation is anything other than the antithesis of the intention of the points system.

It is a perfect example of an abject failure of policy and it’s ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

Judging by slags record in all grades over the last 10 years, I’d say not. I don’t claim to know what goes on at the Maine but I’d guess there is a good reason why Blake isn’t playing there, especially after a few of his best mates are there this year. On the points system, if you play ex afl and vfl players with no prior time at the club, the points dry up quickly. Nothing wrong with doing that either but now sure what the issue is

Ha ha definitely some AFLVIC staff on here this morning trying to defend the indefensible

Another round next week of a dogshit comp continues

The leagues struggling but the comments would be vastly different from some if their team was winning.

Not in my case. I’m perfectly capable of taking off my scarf and viewing the state of the game dispassionately. In fact I would said the arguments the other way are taking more of a club supporter view than a policy analysis.

The player points policy is right here.

The objective vs the reality of the implementation there is impossible to reconcile.

OK.

You are the AFL person responsible for the points system state wide. Let's blow up the current system and start again using the attached as a starting point.

I have made a slight tweak to the 2 and 3 point allocations from the attached.

Club Points
* Base figure of 38 points

* Clubs that have not played finals in three years - 42 pts (reduce by 2 per year after making finals until they return to 38)

* Clubs that have not played finals in five years - 44 pts (reduce by 3 per year after making finals until they return to 38).

* No player point deductions for the first three years at a club.

Player Point Allocation
1 - locals
3 - recruited players
4 - ex state league players (VFL, SANFL, WAFL, etc)
6 - ex AFL

What is not spelled out in the attachment in the reference to loyalty is that a player's points cannot be reduced until they start their fourth season at the same club.

Discuss.

Went to the Castlemaine V Gisborne game yesterday and enjoyed a good game at a picturesque ground. Close game until the end of the third quarter when Gisborne kicked away and continued with it in the last quarter. Took my camcorder with me and recorded the last half. Here's the YouTube link to my video if you're interested. Have a look at the 2:45 minute mark of the video where No. 13 for Castlemaine attempts to take mark of the century. The Gisborne supporters sure liked sounding their cars horns whenever their team kicked a goal!! Enjoy.
