Just announced as Tasmania CEO.

The Tasmania Football Club is thrilled to announce that Brendon Gale has signed on to be the Club’s first CEO, starting in early 2025.

Brendon Gale is arguably the AFL industry’s most successful Chief Executive Officer, leaving the Richmond Football Club as the first AFL Club to reach 100,000 members, having delivered three Premierships and been part of a leadership team that has entrenched the Tigers as one of the AFL’s powerhouse clubs.

On top of his football success, Brendon is a corporate leader, having held non-Executive Director roles in business, the non-Government sector and the Victorian Equal Opportunity Commission.

Highly respected, extremely experienced and a proud product of Tasmanian football, Brendon will be joining Tasmania Football Club when he finalises his work for the Richmond Football Club.

Chair of the Tasmania Football Club, Grant O’Brien said he was thrilled on behalf of the Club’s membership, supporters and all Tasmanians.

“Not only have we got a highly successful and proven AFL Club CEO, we have also tempted home a proud son of Tasmania.

“Brendon grew up on the North West Coast of Tasmania, and before his incredible 244-game career at AFL level, he played his early football for Burnie Hawks and represented Tasmanian four times.

“This is an enormous vote of confidence in our Club.

“Brendon is fully committed to focussing on completing his role at the Richmond Football Club in the same professional manner that has been a feature of his leadership at the Club, and while we are excited, we respect the fact that he has a big job to complete before we can welcome him home to Tasmanian football,” Mr. O’Brien said.

Mr O’Brien said that the CEO’s appointment delivers another significant milestone for the Club and clearly signifies the Club progressing toward its debut season in 2028. The Board have a clear action plan for the remainder of 2024, under the proven leadership of Executive Director, Kath McCann.

The Club CEO announcement follows the launch of the Club name, colours and emblem, the signing up of over 190,000 Founding Members and significant progress in the delivery of the Club’s Establishment Phase Business Plan, including key infrastructure projects.

all I'll say is the timing is really weird

almost like the afl couldnt wait to get it out

a coincedence it comes in the week that the media finally published our umpire issues ?

its almost like theyre trying to send a message to the umpires that everyone from the dynasty era is gone now

Very much appreciate the good times, but can't live in the moment looking in the rear view mirror.

Just like Dimma, poached with afl involvement is likely and with not even 1/3 of the season gone, he's outta hear.

Within the hour, the Tassie job is confirmed.

It's a terrible look.

Our most critical off field leaders can't wait to get out of the place.

Why do our leaders keep leaving 1/3 through a season? Can they not wait til the end? Why?

Its a horrendous look.

They can jam their sausages and new toys.

The most we can ever ask for as footy fans is to have hope in our side being competitive, and then one day for memories and history to be created through great times, that we can re-live in future years and tell our kids and grandkids about.

During most of my time as a Richmond fan in the 90's and 00's as a kid/teenager (34 years old now), we never had any genuine hope of doing that, and we were continually sold lemons. That all changed when Benny Gale came on board, and the evidence is what followed. Regardless of the specific circumstances and people that played bigger/smaller parts in it all, the fact remains that once Benny Gale took over, we slow burned our way from the worst performing finals club of the past 3 decades, to "the former dynasty" club.

I remember a time where as a Tiger fan, I looked on in envy at the dynastys that formed in the 00's like the Lions, and even when they finally did fall away, I wondered how it would feel on that side of things, being a fan of a club that has made its' mark on history.

Well, thanks to Benny Gale, I get to actually experience that. Not many clubs win 3 flags in a 4 year gap, and to have done so immortalizes the Richmond Football Club for decades to come.

So no matter what the current circumstances, he's provided me with 10+ years of having genuine hope and knowing we were building to something, and a future legacy of stories and greatness that I can share with my kids, much like you old codgers on here talk about the 60's/70's!

Thanks for all the memories and legacy you left us Benny, and I hope you do some amazing work in Tassie and have them going from the get-go (except against us haha!).

Well the one inks not dry on article on leaving and then this comes out. * me. Just goes to show what a ****ed up industry the AFL is, going to a competitor but going to hang around with us for another six months. Weak as piss from our board (regardless of his legendary status for service to our clubs) conflicts need to be managed appropriately.
heck me the carcass isn't even cold yet!
