Should make a few people happy.

Is Labi on a scholarship or is he an international rookie just coming off a scholarship, because I have seen him referred to as being on an international scholarship, which means he isn't ready to play yet. So he is a genuine rookie then, yes?

There was that thing a few weeks back when Fitzy was presenting Labi with a scholarship or something like that. I think that it is an AFL scholarship rather than a Carlton sponsorship.

Hrmm, where did you find that list AA?

Just looking on the Carlton Website and the list posted their does not have Bentley named in the departures.

Edit: Just noticed Bentley's name has been taken off the Carlton players list along with the others.

You have to know where to look BD & it is definitely there ;)

Pleased he won't be lining up again next year, but good luck to the guy. Got to do something the rest of us only dream about; pulling on the Navy Blue guernsey and running out for Carlton.

Bit of an odd one. You guys only signed him to his International Scholarship 2 weeks ago, so something pretty drastic must've happened to rookie list him already, because you could've easily just signed him to a typical International rookie contract from the start.

He is barely eligible to be drafted this year - his birth date is December 31 1991, so he sneaks in by a day, which may've had something to do with it or he has significantly impressed your recruiters since then.

But in answer to your question, yes, he is a genuine rookie and is effectively no different to any International rookie - eligible to be promoted at any stage and contracted to Carlton for 2 years rather than the usual 1 year contract rookies drafted normally receive.

The only aspect I'm not 100% on is given he was first signed to a scholarship whether he actually takes up a rookie spot like an international rookie, or whether he is an extra player that you have on top of your 8 like a player signed from the NSW Scholarship scheme.

Is there any chance we will re-draft Stanton in the rookie draft?

as this was only his first year

Thanks for that. The terminology was definitely confusing me. I know that the Hawks had an extra player on their rookie list last year, and I think it had something to do with the scholarship program.

Well, I for one am disappointed that Bentley was given the flick.

We would have beaten hawthorn if it wasn't for bently, therefore playing Brisbane at home in the finals.......F***

My disappointment does not reach that extent but I do think he should have been retained for another season.

He became the whipping boy on here, unfortunately meaning that every 1 bad thing he did automatically cancelled out the 10 good things he did.
I'm just stirring mate ... however ....

Are you suggesting that in his 57 disposals in 5 games, that he had over 90% efficiency?

Bentley is a dudd and a half, in the couple of games he played this season you could just tell that he had no potential.

Lacks speed and quick reaction time.

1 in 10 was just a number I pulled out of nowhere.

However, looking at the stats.........

Round 6 vs Hawthorn - 9 disposals, 88.89% disposal efficiency - 8 effective disposals, 1 ineffective disposal

Round 14 vs Fremantle - 11 disposals, 63.64% disposal efficiency - 7 effective disposals, 4 ineffective disposals

Round 15 vs Richmond - 11 disposals, 63.64% disposal efficiency - 7 effective disposals, 4 ineffective disposals

Round 16 vs Sydney - 15 disposals, 73.33% disposal efficiency - 11 effective disposals, 4 ineffective disposals

Round 17 vs Collingwood - 11 disposals, 63.64% disposal efficiency - 7 effective disposals, 4 ineffective disposals

Bentley also averaged over 3 tackles per game.

Looking at those stats one thing is clear. He's no superstar, and noone is going even remotely close to suggesting that. But they're nowhere near as bad as some people are making it out to be. In fact, for a player coming off the rookie list they are around as good as we could have expected. He was never going to star in those games and to expect him to do so is ridiculous.

But statistics do not tell the full story. I watched him with keen interest during these games because I wanted to see if he could make it. Statistics do not account for the amount of times he helped a teammate out and had no statistical measure to prove it, nor do they account for the amount of times he presented (particularly around the forward 50), only to be ignored in favour of bombing it long to Fevola.

I realise of course that he is gone and nothing I can say will change that fact. But I do believe strongly that Bentley became a whipping boy for the supporters of this club, much like JR was for a number of seasons, and thus anything good that he did was almost completely ignored in favour of the things he did that could detract from his performances.

I think one thing that counted against him when he came in, is that he was basically brought in to provide a bit of biff and barge with his bigger body. That was the logic given at any rate. He failed to really have a physical presence in most of those games and that really was the only thing he had to offer above and beyond other possible replacements.

I have no doubt he was a willing worker and he did do a few good things, but you sort of have to make every post a winner when you were delisted by your previous club, are mature aged and getting a go from a rookie list. He didn't look like he needed physical maturity like JR did, so he did not look like he had improvement in it. Just a hard working vanilla midfielder with few standout features in his game.

We would have beaten Hawthorn if Fev had kicked truly from 15 out.

Yes but Bentley was heard to cry out "chewy on your boot".

If one were to read the archives, poor Greg was scape-goated for the Hawthorn loss from the time he was selected on the Thursday night. The fact is, we were a team on the rise and Hawthorn a team in decline. The 1-kick result flattered us.
