So looking forward to next year I thought I'd get a thread going based on what our best 22 will potentially look like. Feel free to include potential recruits but would prefer them to at least have some sort of link/baisis to include (eg: No Clark 'cuz he's a forward merp and we need one, derp herp').

Moreso looking at what team will line up round 1 I suppose, with everybody available.

FB: Laidler - Jamison - Duigan
CHB: Yarran - Henderson - Scotland
C: Gibbs - Mclean - Simpson
CHF: Walker - Waite - Robinson
FF: Garlett - Kreuzer - Betts
R: Warnock - Judd - Murphy

I/C: Carrazzo - Lucas - Russell
SUB: Collins

Unlucky: Bower, Ellard, Armfield, Joseph, Thornton, Tuohy

I envisage this changing many times between now and the day before our annual pummelling of Richmond though. I'll elaborate on some of my more 'borderline' choices below.

Mclean: Seriously think he has a lot to offer us. Has been mismanaged. Too bulky in his first year with us, which resulted in him slimming down a crapload for this year. I think he just needs some consistency with his body to start playing some good football again. Add to that he hasn't been given an extended run recently then I say we just haven't managed him properly. Get him to work on his speed and agility in the off-season and I think he'll turn out to be more than servicable.

Lucas: MC showed how highly rated he was when he was in our 22 for the first game of this season. Fully expect him to cement a place in our best team next year.

Collins: Perhaps the call that will have the most conjecture (maybe... most seem to dislike Mclean too though). Think this guy, while not having shown it in his early season games is going to be a very classy half-forward/winger for us methinks. Just from the glimpses I've seen of him. That and de-Richmondisation needs a season or so.

Tuohy has the pace, X factor and skill to be a super sub who has an impact coming off the bench.

That is a premiership forward line :thumbsu:

Would Love to see Watto in the best 22 hes gonna be a gun Defender with Jamo and the improving Henderson. Watson could play as a third tall defender or if not required in that game, he could be a back flanker pumping the F**K out of the ball with that lethal left boot. He needs Experience..

FB Watson Jamison Laidler
HB Yarran Henderson Duigan
C Tuohy Judd Simpson
HF Scotland Waite Robbo/Garlett
FF Walker Kruezer Betts
Foll Warnock Murphy Gibbs
Inter Ellard Armfield Joseph Carrazzo

Also I would love to see Mitchell come into the team through out the year. And Maybe Austin if he can survive the delistings

Thought it may be interesting to note the amount of games our most recent draftees/ recruits have played:

2011 draftees
Draftee - Games Played
Andrew Collins - 2
Jeremy Laidler - 21
#18 Matthew Watson -3
#34 Pat McCarthy - 0
#42 Luke Mitchell - 0
#67 Pat McInnes - 0
#70 Nicholas Duigan - 22
Ed Curnow (R) - 12
Wayde Twomey (R) - 2

2010 draftees
Brock McLean - 10
Lachie Henderson - 34
#12 Kane Lucas - 10
#43 Marcus Davies - 13
#59 Rohan Kerr - 0
Simon White - 12
Jaryd Cachia (R) - 0
Jo Dare (R) - 0
Levi Casboult (R) - 0
Zach Tuohy(R) - 11

Focusing on last year's draft especially, excluding Duigan and Laidler, we had a total of 19 games between 7 new recruits. 4 of those recruits were on the receiving end of season ending surgeries, 3 of them being shoulder injuries. Three of those recruits injured for the whole season (Mitchell, McCarthy, McInnes) were considered to be 'bargains' and may be able to develop in to KPP. Another one (Curnow) had a strong start with us, before being struck down by injury as well.

Will be very interesting to see what role some of these recruits, especially those specifically aforementioned, can play for us this year after a second pre-season.

I'll go with:

Laidler Jamo JR
Yazza Hendo Duigan
Scotty Ed Simmo
Walker Kreuze Gibbs
Eddie Waite Jeff

Hammer Judd Murph

Carrots, Robbo, Lucas

Sub: Army

Next up in no particular order: Bower, Ellard, Thornton, Tuohy, AJ, 206

+1 for team list, -1 for formatting :)

All I'd add here is Tuohy for sub instead of Army. That one change makes that team's disposal look elite overall instead of merely acceptable.

No probs. My reasons for Army are his pace and his increasing capacity to play midfield, however I'm not wedded to him specifically. I would imagine the sub will rotate throughout the season anyway as it will most likely be based on who's injured and which horse is required for which course.

Ideally you want all your subs to be 195cms, have Army's pace, Jamo's defensive instincts, Robbo's fearlessness, Simmo's tank and Gibbs's silk.:D

I would actually like to see if Tuohy could play midfield at some stage and I could definately see him on a HFF but currently he's a defender and while I enjoy his attacking flair he's somewhat 'loose' on his direct opponent.

Based on the team I posted I think he is currently at least, not required. However in reality I'm sure he'll get a go.

Walker, Gibbs and, on odd occasions, Waite rotating half forward/midfield. Waite also FF when Kreuzer goes into the ruck.

Thornton's effort in the EF was irresistible. Best consistent contested marking performance I've seen here for a long time by a forward. With the the top sides going taller up forward now he is a great back up to Waite and Kreuzer. Gives us more flexibility with Waite too.

If Mitchell has a solid preseason it'd be nice to give him a go in the NAB cup.

5 months to go....
Should be given a go anyway. Not much to gain from a NAB Cup win.

My team taking into account, a full pre-season for all players, and players playing to their best exposed form, e.g. Bower at his best.

Yarran Jamison Laidler

Bower Henderson Duigan

Lucas Judd Simpson

Robinson Waite Walker

Garlett Kruezer Betts

On ball: Warnock, Murphy and Gibbs

Int: Russell, Scotland, and whoever out of (Carrots, Hampson, Setantrum, Thornton, Ellard, Touhy, AJ, Armfield, Davies and the young uns/rookies).

Russell, Scotland and Bower fighting for the HBF spot. Scotland obv can play wing/midfield as well. Favouring Lucas on potential rather than exposed form.

Basically this is my hopeful side.

The reality side at this point in time includes Scotland onfield with Lucas/Bower probably not on field.

Really want to see Waite use his run and mobility after a full pre-season rather play as a stay at home FF. His build suits this role.
