After watching Footy Flashbacks today, Tony Lockett vs Sydney at the SCG in Round 7, 1994 at the SCG was a truly remarkable performance that won them the match after being 40+ points down in the last quarter. Really showed why he was a solid marker, goal kicker and good at one on one contests especially from close range with his 11 goal haul.

What other performances by an individual do you rate highly to be the sole reason why a team won?

Modras 10 vs North Melbourne in 93 really pulled them over the line I thought. He kicked three in three minutes in the third to get them back into the game and they ended up winning by less than a kick.

Tredrea vs Richmond last year is another.

Round 14, 2000. We were just holding on at half-time against Collingwood.
After a dirty first half, Jeff Farmer comes on a few minutes after the start of the third, and ends up kicking 9 goals in the second half. Brilliant stuff.

Gary Ablett's 14 goals vs. Essendon 1993 to win by ... wait ... nevermind. :D

I guess, of recent memory, Hird's 15 possessions and the winning goal in the final quarter vs. West Coast Rnd 3, 2004 was the best one I can think of.
What about Lucas's bag of goals against West Coast in the last quarter? Was around 2008 I think.

Kouta and James Hird are the only players that can single-handedly win a game for the entire team. It's not just kicking goals, they can win the ball in the middle and kick a bag of goals in a game.

Jeebus off-season is way too long. This is like the 8th different thread where Hirds WC game has been able to be nominated. (Not saying it's not worthy, just heard it mentioned more this off-season than just after the actual match!)

It's statements like this that let me know you are under the age of 25.

Really? Only these two players huh?
Kouta was brilliant for a two year period in his whole career.
Hirdy was pretty much brilliant throughout his.

Never watched Carey play? Or Leigh Matthews? He kicked 9 goals playing in the middle that day, but you probably weren't born.

Probably more of a comment that only those players could truly do it all. Carey was great up the field but wasn't a ball-winner by any stretch of the imagination.

But Leigh Matthews could definitely do anything... including hospitalising players.

Pavlich is probably a better example than Kouta.

Yeah I've mentioned it twice I think. But tbh, I really can't think of another player this decade who has single-handedly turned a game. Apart from Lloyd, Hird and Fletcher, we haven't had any other absolute elite players. Plenty of even contributers.

2000 was a perfect example. Look how many blokes polled brownlow votes.

There are a heap of so-called 'one percenters' that people refer to but dont really win you the match ie Chick's smother/handpass/shepherd in the 06 GF, Barry's 05 GF mark etc etc.
As for individual performances I have seen win matches the best I have seen was Carey, he used to dominate and could change the outcome of a game. Hird too used to carry the bombers over the line on occasions.

I was a fan of Drew Petrie dragging North across the line against the Saints this year. had blokes hanging off him the entire last quarter, yet was determined to win it.
