One of the biggest influences on Tool was King Crimson especially the Red album.

Please just shut the **** up. Take this irrelevant crap to your prog rock thread.

For me, it wouldn't be anyone such as Dream Theater, they have released some fairly disappointing albums. I don't rate Tool as nearly as highly as other people on this board, although I can respect Aenima and Lateralus. I don't have a favourite prog artist, but these are the albums I consider to be the best of each artists work, which are as follows

Lost Horizon - Awakening the World
Lost Horizon - A Flame to the Ground Beneath
Opeth - Still Life
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Edge of Sanity - Crimson
Edge of Sanity - Crimson II
Edge of Sanity - Purgatory Afterglow
Cynic - Focus
Pain of Salvation - Remedy Lane
Pain of Salvation - Entropia
Pain of Salvation - One Hour by the Concrete Lake
Devin Townsend - Terria
Devin Townsend - Infinity
Devin Townsend - Synchestra
Devin Townsend - Ocean Machine
Disillusion - Back to Times of Splendor
Ayreon - The Human Equation
Ayreon - Into the Electric Castle
Symphony X - The Divine Wings of Tragedy
Liquid Tension Experiment - Liquid Tension Experiment 2
Dream Theater - Images and Words
Dream Theater - Awake
Gojira - The Link
Orphaned Land - Mabool

imo Fates Warning - Awaken The Guardian would go a very close 2nd to Lateralus as the best.It is probably the best metal album of the 80's as well, yes, better than Metallica,Maiden,Megadeth and Slayer.

Just give up mate, please you just so haven't got a clue.

You bag King Crimson as "irrelevant crap" and then list a whole load of stuff which almost defines the word "irrelevant". Oh the irony. You really are a hopeless case, dude.

That sucks

BTBAM played on Sat nite here in Brissy, but I missed for a multitude of reasons. Absolutely epic by all accounts :(

You don't get it, do you? When I say that King Crimson is irrelevant, I mean that they are irrelevant in this metal thread. They are irrelevant to metal.

Get it? Dumbass.

Wow, just checked out "Disillusion - Back to Times of Splendor" (thanks KFC)

AWESOME. +1 Fan.

No worries mate. :thumbsu:

I'm on the Opeth - Blackwater Park team. Brillance.

And Devin.....he has the golden touch.

Would Russian Circles fit the bill, although they do get pigeon-holed as post rock. I'm a big fan.
