Just wondering what people's thoughts are on the different brands of runners.

Last pair I got were some decent Nike's from Athletes' Foot. They did their whole special foot measurement tests and all and eventually I got some runners that were a good fit for my foot type.

I've been happy with the pair, but looking at getting some new ones and maybe switching brands if it sounds worthwhile.

Any particular brand or model a standout? Or is it really just horses for courses?

My best two pairs of all time have been Brooks so I am a Brooks man for life now I guess.

Last pair of Nikes I had something cracked inside the shoe after 6 months and it made a creaking sound with every step. They were rather expensive so they've lost me as a customer.

I used to wear Nike when I was younger, but when I got a job in a sports store, the people there changed me to Asics, so yeah Asics ever since. Kayanos I usually get. They last for ages. :thumbsu:

Yep, those ones are the go for running, my better half shelled out around $200 for them but loves them, been well over two years still in great form and (her words) comfy as ever.

asics or new balance.

kayanos are very pricey and considered a hard core running shoe. i had them about 12 yrs ago cos they were expensive and cool and were one of the most uncomfortble pairs of shoes ive ever had. just get the right shoe that fits your foot.

Yeah they are very comfy. I remember trying on my first pair of Kayanos at the store (circa 2002, navy blue and silver iirc, lol) and comparing them to the Nikes I had on previously... well there was no comparison. ;)

This.

While I was working at the sports store a rep from New Balance gave everyone free runners to wear while we were working. After an 8-hour shift wearing those, my lower back was killing me. Never wore them again after that.. pretty sure it was the shoes, they are good for wider feet, yes? I have narrow feet, so maybe that had something to do with it...

Asics if you want them to last as well as being comfortable

Reebok for sheer comfort but they last about 3 months before they fall apart

Asics - I have a pair of Gel-Nimbus and they are the best ive had. Each to their own but for me they are more comfy than my last pair of Kayanos.

Nimbus are focused on comfort but have little support. If you have very good feet and running style they would be OK but most people dont and I wouldnt recommend Nimbus to them.

I have horrible feet and need a maximum stability shoe. Have had the Brooks Beast but found they were too heavy to run / play sport in. Moved to the Adidas Salvation and found them quite good (RRP $260?).

In terms of the OP's question. The best running shoe is generally considered to be the Asics Keyano. If you do get the Keyano make sure you get this years model (model 16). I've worn both last years and current model for extended period back to back and the new model is alot better than last years. I was surprised how different they were.

Yeah, same here.

I had real problems finding a pair of runners that fit me both in the length and across the foot. Got on to a pair of Asics and for a size 15 they are pretty light.

Where are you from?

If you can I would suggest you get down to a Active Feet store. They let you try any shoe you want on and have a run on the treadmill. Much better than athletes foot.

asics or new balance.
Ding ding ding.

In my experience, these two are head and shoulders above the rest. I'm pretty sure asics have podiatrists fairly heavily involved in the development of theirs - their Gel series have the stamp of approval from the Australian association.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone.

I knew Asics were top of the pile for footy boots (and have them accordingly - they've made a world of difference to my running), but wasn't sure how they stacked up in the running shoes arena.

Seems they are just good full stop.

Didn't know about New Balance & Brooks being as highly rated, so will keep these in mind when I go for my next pair.

The Nike's I have at the moment fit like a glove and have been great to me, so like some have said, literally, if the shoe fits, wear it. No need to change brands necessarily just for the sake of the wraps on another brand.

Tiger Time, I'm in northern NSW, so a fair bit away from Active Feet stores, but do frequent Melbourne a bit, so will keep it in mind. Cheers. :thumbsu:

Don't know what the best are, but I strongly advise you against Nike Shox. They are very cushiony, but not awfully easy to run in, and because of the firm heel, it's pretty easy to trip over and do some damage.

Very rarely have I owned anything other than Tiger/Asics (that's going back a long way) I've strayed a few times over the years to my own detriment.

I got a pair of adidas Attune running shoes for $79.95 (on sale from $129.95) from Rebel Sport at Christmas. They've really comfortable (no "hot spots" or blisters for me at all), quite lightweight, and while they don't look like they've got a heap of cushioning compared to some Asics and New Balance models, I'm a big guy (195cm, 108kg) and I've had no problems with them at all. The cushioning hasn't "flattened out" with regular running on hard surfaces either. Definitely recommended if you want a good durable lightweight shoe for "regular" feet that's not going to break the bank :thumbsu:

Asics are far and away the best shoe for jogging or running.

New Balance... please...

NB label not cool enough for you? look at the shoe, not the label. but again, it's the right shoe for the right foot what matters most.

from what i understand, asics use the kayanos for all their new technology.. some of which is good, and some average. whatever they find "works" goes into their other footwear (eg numbus, 2150s) in the following model.

asics. I'm into my running and the last two shoes have been asics. Very long lasting and very comfortable, even with a callus present on one of my toes.

End of financial year or right after xmas are the best times to buy runners, as there are plenty of savings in sales to be had.:)

My last 4 pairs of runners/basketball shoes have been Converse. I swear by them. Always last me forever and are comfortable and stand up to all kinds of twisting and turning on the court. My current pair are the Converse Dwayne Wade 3 Wade shoes, like this but red and black.
