There's absolutely no Port bias here but this is the way I see it.

Surjan, because he actually plays as a defender and defends. He had something ridiculous like 16 goals conceded from 21 games or so last season. I'd then have Hayden (who is grossly under-appreciated in AFL circles), then Johncock.

People tend to downplay how good Surj's season was because as a side, Port were a basket case last year.

The reason I have stiffy 3rd ranked is it's easy to kick bags on him and he generally doesn't contribute unless he's playing as a linkman running the ball from the backlines.

I'd feel far safer given a match up with a dangerous small forward in Surjan or Hayden doing the job.

With the exception of Shaw the rest are medium sized defenders who can play between talls and smalls, bit like what the Bulldogs ask of Morris.

If you want a pure defender who will normally always win their head to head match up you pick Surjan.

If you want a defender who can run off and sometimes play close checking roles on players you pick Hayden.

If you want a defender who runs off and creates you pick Johncock.

If you don't watch football you pick Baker.

Harry O plays more a medium defender role, but he'd still be 2nd to the stiff one.

Johncock owns this poll, but there are a fair few missing as have been pointed out.

Still I'd say Stiffy is the best 'small' defender going about.

I really like the way Hayden plays, although Johncock has the runs on the board. Harbrow stiff not to get a mention.

Agree with the descriptions. With that info i'd want Surjan or Hayden out of those 4, i dont even see Johncock as a defender, more of a linkman.
