Anyone think Jessie White will get a game now?

I think Barry will get anywhere from 6-10(Head High, High Impact, Off Play, and history).

Nope not after watching him reserves today he gave up way to easy on a number of occassions one that stands out happened right in front of us. He kicked the ball OOBOTF from a kick in and was so disheartened by it he didnt man up his player who consequently grabbed the ball and off they went. Kick to the goal square and score. Is there a particular reason he is being played in defense i was under the impression he was going to be primed for a forward?

Yes Barry Hall DID THE WRONG THING and should receive a ban of 4+ weeks, but I don't want to see West Coast fans coming on here to post crap for NO GOOD REASON. I won't change what happened and it won't influence the tribunal decision either. I have banned access to 7 Eagles fans already and given Red Cards to 3 of those. Anyone who is an opposition fan that crosses the line WILL see their post/thread removed and access to the Swans Board removed. Really cross the line and I'll slap a Infraction on as well.

Swans fans however this doesn't give you the right to post crap as well. I don't want to see any baiting or gloating about the punch that crosses the line, because I will remove it. Go to far and an infraction will be handed out.

This is a debate sadly we have to have, but read the board rules and STICK TO THEM.

I agree with you that White's not yet ready for senior football but you're being a tad harsh on him, I think. The OOB kick was certainly a mistake. And yes, it was disappointing that in his distress over that error he compounded it by going to sleep for a few seconds. But he worked his way into the game admirably after half-time and showed he has athletic attributes and a pretty decent roost on him - certainly the raw materials and the enthusiasm are there in abundance.

I think he could eventually make it as either a defender or a forward at senior level but I suspect he's being played in the back half at the moment because it gives slightly more structure to his role. And with some decent opposition this season, he should learn a lot. Playing up forward when you don't have much of a football background, and the delivery from further up the ground tends to be wayward, can be a tough gig. It's exactly the same reason Murphy's being started in defence too.

I do agree I maybe a little harsh on him but I think I was expecing so much because of the write up everyone has been giving him and to see that happen was very unexpected and it did take him quite a while to get back into it again. I dont think the guys sitting along side us were helping matters much they were heckling him and davis pretty badly for a while there. davis laughed it of and gave them two thumbs up but White probably didnt take it quite as well.

Look, Swans fans shouldn't be tarnished in any way, it was Barry Hall's actions, not the clubs or coaches. He will be lucky to get less than 6 IMO.

I watched a WAFL match yesterday, where a player from my club, Swan Districts, supposedly elbowed someone in the head and of course the opposition were calling all of our players and supporters thugs, so I know where you guys are coming from. That is simply not the case and people are silly if they think so.

Okay, I'm sure everyone's on the same page as far as Barry's punch is concerned. I was also disappointed by Luke Darcy's comment that Brent Staker's "a very fair, a very quiet sort of opponent ...". Anyone who's watched enough WC games, will know that Staker is no saint. In the opening minutes of the 2006 1st Qualifying Finals match between Sydney and West Coast, just before WC's first goal, Staker strikes two Swanees (Jarrad McVeigh and Adam Schneider) in succession. The umpire didn't even bat an eye-lid at what were clearly unprovoked attacks by Staker.

What penalty did Staker get for that? Perhaps, last night was simply payback.

The thing that really made me hate Staker was in 2007 when we played them at Homebush he got a goal and then he did that spirally thing with his finger that Ben Cousins used to do. Uh, he is so disgusting. I can't believe his parents are now speaking out about it aswell.. what a big wuss.

To be fair, that incident definitely required a press conference. Especially as Hall is unlikely to be allowed to take an early plea to the tribunal. Hall needed to go on the record apologising and making it clear he accepts guilt.

I've often seen him push off an opponent like that in the last few years. And he's given away quite a few stupid frees because of it too. But he's never gone that high, and most times he'd use an open hand.

Forgotten in all this is that Hall has no points at the moment. He's been a pretty good boy since 2002 (the odd successful appeal aside). If this was a less sensational incident, he could have used his good behaviour to keep the suspension to 4-5 weeks.

It'll be interesting to see whether the AFL decide to make an example of him and set an arbitrary long-term ban. We have the Herald Sun printing stories about Staker's family demanding a year long ban, for example. So the trial by media has already begun.

Impact: High = 3 points (he didn't break the jaw so "severe" cannot be justified)
Contact: High = 2 points (no argument there)

Total: 7 activation points, which is a Level 4 offence.
A level 4 Striking offence earns 325 demerit points, so Bazza would get 3 weeks.

Now if we grade Conduct or Impact one grade higher (which is not unreasonable), we end up with another activation point for a total of 8. Eight activation points is a level 5 offence, which earns 425 points and a 4-week suspension.

If they grade both higher (which is unlikely), then it goes straight to the Tribunal. The MRP can also elect to refer the charge straight to the Tribunal instead. Even if they did, it is unreasonable to suggest that they would seek to impose a lengthy ban "to set an example", as some people suggest. Even if it went to the tribunal, it is unlikely to end up with a significantly more serious penalty than is suggested by the points table. I think six weeks is the maximum penalty that we can expect.

So I think the penalty will be between 3 weeks (level 4 offence) and 6 weeks (handed down at the discretion of the Tribunal) with the most likely penalty 3 to 4 weeks.

For what it's worth, a few years ago Brodie Holland only got two weeks for a behind-the-play punch to the head of Paul Williams that knocked Williams to the ground. This was at a time before the current tribunal system, and the general consensus at the time was that he would get about four weeks. So don't be surprised if the offence ends up receiving less weeks than people think.

hall hit staker with a serious punch, no doubt about it, whether he meant to or whatever else he says, it was a big hit
what he did to maguire was basically a fend using his fist (which was stupid too)
it might've even started out as a punch but he pulled it

he will get 6 weeks at least, and more likely 8, maybe even the 10 robert walls has been spruiking since it happened
the afl can score some points with all the anti-swans people who believe we are protected by thumoing baz with a big penalty
the thing is, he deserves it, so there's nowt anyone can do
he's given the afl the perfect ammunition to get him, get roosy and get the club
