Mmarsh!

Please let this be the turning point for him to perform to his talent level on a regular basis.

Amazing really, that with all the pressure and heat coming pre-tournament, the Aussies have produced a diamond.

I think Marsh is a good selection for white ball cricket, especially T20.

But Test match cricket, isn't his go.

No it isn't his strength but it is understandable that they gave him a few goes at it as he the selectors really wanted that batting allrounder than could offer 10-15 overs of decent seam bowling for team balance. After Watson retired, MMarsh was the only real option. He does have the tools and has scored some good centuries at the level but not consistent enough.

TBH i think a large part of his test failures is that he can't consistently get his body right to bowl that many overs through test series. Which is terribly frustrating as he has huge talent.

The test side that walks out will be interesting. Richardson can't be far off taking Starc's spot (just for those putting the bloke down he's always relied on pace and he basically won us a 50 over world cup so have some respect) and then the batting options are a long way from settled.

I don't deny Starc's career effectiveness in the limited overs arena but he's never been that great a Test bowler, with most of his success there coming during a period where Warner at least was probably tampering with the ball and his form across formats for the last year has tended more to "bad" than "good". Unlike batting, we have pretty good fast bowling depth (particularly for T20s) so it's fair to look at what isn't working and can it be bettered.

I also respect Starc for sitting out the IPL where he'd make huge bucks so he can have a break and still play for his country when called on, rather than skipping tours due to bubble fatigue but putting his hand up for the IPL like some of his team mates.

Not sure Cam Green should ever be picked for Aus again after this.

Cameron Green's response in today's game to Labuschagne getting him out the other day 😂

Why ? One of our best bastmen in the previous ashes in Australia. But hard to see him getting past green
He doesn't have the temperament for the long form. All well and good to have a good summer here on Australian decks but you've gotta be able to go to India on a onion field and grind out an innings. Or England when the ball is swinging, and be able to grit out a partnership.
You're example is perfect, Green is the perfect test up and comer. He's a guy you'd be confident taking to England.

Mitch Marsh is actually handy in English conditions for his bowling. He hoops it around a fair bit. The 5th Test at The Oval in the last series he did really well with the ball from memory.

Edit: 5/46 and 2/40

This is brilliant, we were dreadful in T20s before this cup.

All turned around due to three players: Warner, Zampa and Marsh.

Warner re-found his mojo at the crease and gave a reminder of how good he is - got runs individually, but also dictated the terms of how the innings would be played.

Zampa has become the best defensive bowler in T20 cricket, particularly during the post-powerplay overs. It means opponents are not able to get away, even when they have wickets in hand.

Marsh going to three has been a revelation. Typically comes in against pace during the powerplay, which suits his strengths, and the long batting line-up beneath him provides the confidence to play without any reservation.

If Starc had a variation ball that he could reliably go to when he fails to generate swing then the resultant chase would have been completed inside of 15 overs.

Reckon Langer will feel justifiably vindicated after that success. The Semi-final and Final in particular showed the difficulty for opponents in containing a Warner-Marsh partnership, where one feasts on spin and the other gorges on pace.

I think Hazelwood's contribution has been overlooked somewhat. 3/16 in the final, wow!

(don't mention the dropped catch)

It’s also come with out Finch, Smith and Maxi all out of form as well.

I feel obliged to point out that this hasn't stopped a significant number of batters, particularly recently, being Australian Test mainstays.

Agree, without question Hazelwood was the star performer with the ball in the final.

14 dot balls (and a wicket) in his first three overs during the Powerplay.

Comes back in to take Starc's end after that 22 run shambles, takes 2 wickets (including Williamson) whilst only conceding 5 runs.

75% of his deliveries resulted in no runs being conceded - pretty amazing performance on a pitch that offered little to pace.

Reckon in almost any other stadium on the planet where the absurd architecture of those lights are not a factor and that catch is taken as well.
