The article leaves Behrendorff off the list for next year, is he signed?

Hatzoglou is fine but not a big deal if he goes, especially it Agar is available for most matches (and there have to be some domestic options who can be just about as good as Hatzoglou).

Bancroft is excellent depth and seemed to improve his T20 ability, but they will be looking for at least one overseas batsman and there’s a good chance it will be an opener.

Green is also unsigned but I would think they will just sign him knowing that he will only be available for a few matches at best.
I think Dorf is unsigned.

You're selling Bancroft a bit short I think.
He's a lot better than a depth player.

He would be a walk up start for most other sides.

Fair enough, I didn’t mean to slight Bancroft, I just meant that if you have a very deep batting lineup then he’s a luxury to have as depth.

Unfortunately India have a number of very good lower order batsmen, as opposed to Australia who have Cummins at 8 batting like a number 10, and then Murphy, Lyon and Boland are all useless.

everyone agrees the english mint lolly saliva was ball tampering though.

im not sure having your "callus ointment" on your fingers and then weirdly tapping it onto the ball should be any different.

if you need some magic cream on your fingers you should only be applying it under umpire supervision. Problem solved
But that was a pom so of course it was cheating 😊

While everyone is talking about Australia vs India, the real competition (Sheffield Shield) is back. Today WA are taking on the sad sack Redbacks. The WA XI:

Bancroft
Whiteman
S Marsh (c)
Cartwright
Hardie
Inglis (wk)
Stoinis
Kelly
Stobo
Rocchiccioli
Moody

First match of the season for Marsh and Stoinis playing first class cricket for the first time in a very long while. Pretty thin pace attack with Jhye injured as per usual, Morris in India, and Paris not named for some reason.

They're still washing the Hobart stank off Paris

What, no Paris? Injured?

You'd have to assume so. He usually is :(

Paris managed with quad tightness.

I can't see Agar playing test cricket ever again with Murphy bowling so well.

To think he missed the BBL final to be carrying out the drinks for this tour.

One thing that really helps win in India is having spin bowlers who can bat. Jadeja is a legitimate all rounder and Ashwin and Axar would probably be classified as bowling all rounders (first class averages of 29 and 32, respectively). Whereas Lyon and Murphy don’t score much and won’t soak up many balls to tire out the opposing fielders under the hot sun.

On the other side of the coin, Australia usually have some pace bowlers (including an all rounder like Green or Marsh or Watson) who can bat, so they bat deeper at home. Whereas India’s recent pace bowlers (Siraj, Shami, Bumrah, Umesh, Ishant) have been really terrible batsmen, so once you get down to about 8 the innings are just about over.

I reckon this test could be over by day 3.

India bat all day tomorrow. Get lead of 200. We get bowled out for 240 late day 3, they chase small target

I'm picking an innings loss.

Maybe it will prompt the ICC to take a closer look at the doctoring of pitches.

One of the things I respect about Australian cricket is that pitches haven't changed much in each locality for about a century. Sure, weather in the prep phase can affect the pith, but generally you know what you're going to get.
Perth is hard, fast, bouncy and true.
Brisbane is similar but a bit more swing friendly.
Sydney spins.
Melbourne is more like an English wicket and is probably the most inconsistent Oz pitch.
Adelaide - early life then batting paradise, then spin heaven.

Year in, year out, series after series.

Losing to SL 5 years ago and drawing Lastyear probably just hows terrible Australia is in the subcontinent. Sl has been so bog average for a while and really the type of side you should dominate regardless of conditions.

Not wrapped with the pitch either but our batsmen shat the bed, there's a left handed spinner out there batting for India that's just made 50.
Axar is a good batsman though. They bat very deep.
