Yep. Apart from "play more red ball cricket before the tour" he hasn't offered much insight into what they should have done. The failings are obvious, the solutions would be more interesting.

The main solution is pretty easy. Take the squad over at least 3 weeks before the first Test, have 2 first-class games (I don't care if they produce green seaming wickets) and perhaps have a training camp as well where you analyse the likely opposition and develop some solid plans (plan A, plan B, plan C...) at both a team level and an individual level.

Or just let the players play Big Bash and hope for the best.

He was just talking about selections, not the solutions to the tour so far.

The BBL is clearly the problem here. It's the new cash cow for CA, so they care less about the national team actually achieving results, and care more about putting money in the coffers via the BBL.

Certainly there's a balance to be struck between performance and financial sustainability, but at the moment maybe, dare I say it, we've swung too far the other way.

I think he said IF was picked on his Shield form, its not the best process.

I'm not sure how you pick players if you're not taking Shield form into account.

You could say the same about the batter's not facing the best bowlers if that's the case.

India invest more in the IPL than we do in the BBL, and their test team is still good ?
ECB invest a lot in the Hundred (not sure why), and their test team is still good ?

Both of them have no international cricket on during those comps so their best players play them. CA can't do the same without moving the BBL out of holidays or moving the big tests.

Read an interesting comment saying one of the downsides of bazball is that by batting quickly through your innings, you are giving the opposition a larger opportunity and overs to bat, which isn't great when the pitch is batter friendly.

Going to be interesting how many runs New Zealand set England here.
