Chris Lynn signs for Adelaide on an 11 game deal before leaving to play in the UAE.

Good to see the competition integrity is still intact.

They are going to have to reduce the length of the comp over the next few years otherwise the UAE/South Africa comps controlled by the IPL will kill them.

Will that do anything if the wages are still way below the other two leagues though? CA just need to pay the players more and it's hard to envisage that being able to occur without private investment

It would be for the Australian public's perception of (and willingness to view/go to) the competition that it isn't just glorified exhibitions and is in fact a national sporting competition in line with the various other sports.

I hate the thought of private ownership for the record, but the IPL is already so powerful and all encompassing that I'm not sure the BBL has any option but to submit to it rather than fight.

yeah it’s pretty lame what’s happening. The ipl owners presumably aim to own clubs around the world, playing all year round. Commercial sport.

Apparently theres already plans for 12 months IPL contacts, i.e. whichever team takes a player at the IPL auction has their rights for all the other comps that team owns teams in.

I actually don't think the IPL owners will want an Aussie IPL.

They are far better off doing leagues in better time zones for India, and by not having to negotiate with CA (CA will want an exclusive window for their league and players for the whole comp) can put a lot more pressure on whichever local country hosts that seasons version (likely to be South Africa).

T20 has really killed my interest in cricket. As someone who grew up and played in a much more technical era with the test cricket and 50 over cricket being mainstays you had a reasonably healthy balance between bat and ball. T20, making grounds smaller (which is mainly a safety thing but not in all cases) and modern superbats have killed it for me.

I remember watching one of Gilchrists early tests and he hit a six down the ground off the toe of the bat and I thought shit this is the most amazing thing i've seen, what sheer power. Now (and even then it's hard to say) it isn't surprising. Super fast bowlers tend to go for more runs in all forms of the game particularly T20 because a semi decent mishit or thick top edge rather than being an infield catch become catches near the ropes or easily sail for 6. In countries with smaller grounds than Australia the batsman basically has to completely **** it up on a big hit to be a chance of being caught.

Agreed.

Not only are the bats now superbats and the boundaries ridiculously small, fielding restrictions, power plays, no short pitched bowling or bowling down the leg side all stack the game in the batsmen's favour. Plus the time allowed per over makes proper pace bowling impossible.
It's basically pointless being a bowler in the T20 game. You can't do anything but bowl in the slot and ask to be hit.

The boundaries are so small that running threes is impossible; even running twos is much rarer than it used to be. Either the fielder will get to the ball too quickly or the ball reaches the mini-boundary.

For some reasons cricket powers seem to believe that boundaries, especially sixes, is what the public want to see. Sorry guys, after a while it's effing boring.

I still rate the greatest short format game in history was the Gillette Cup semi final at the WACA 4Mar77.

It's not test cricket, but T20 at its best (ie not the BBL) is quite good these days imo. It's the most tactical form of cricket now, and if you can see past the garish facade of the IPL, it's actually an incredibly high standard of cricket.

I hope Zimbabwe are competitive this series.
I don't expect much from CA, but they have no photos of the Zimbabwe players on the scorecard except for two, and a profile bio on only one on their app.
How hard is it to rip some details off Cricinfo?

New years day Bevan 4 off the last ball not up there? Windies were still a very decent side and Australia weren't yet dominant. I ran like a sociapath down sutherland street in port headland. Neighbours loved it, out in the boat fishing the next day.

Good on him. If he can keep improving his bowling he will become a very good test all rounder. However I'm not sure a 5 for with it being 5 of Zimbabwe's last 6 wickets accounts for much.
Just had a watch of the highlights. All 5 were batsmen holing out in the deep. Not the highest quality 5-fa, but I'm sure his added pace and bounce assisted.

One of the worst 5 fors absolutely but if you can get a look at the Andrew Symonds tribute do it. A real tear jerker.

I actually rate the Bevan/Bichel chase vs N.Z around 2002 as the better chase at home. Shame Australia never made the finals that year because of some Kiwi chicanery...

Great effort and a terrific game but there will probably never be a 'miracle at the WACA' game again.

WA, after being 1-50, were skittled by Qld for 77 by Thommo and Dymock.
Then, against a batting lineup that included the two best batsmen in the world at the time (Richards, GChappell), Lillee, Clark and Malone did them for 62. Qld were 6-40 and put it together to reach 6-61 before losing 4-2.
