How would that compare with the 434 game
I'll take the Gillette Cup.
The Qld reply started with Lillee bowling 5 or 6 bouncers (8 ball overs then) at Viv. Then cleaned him up with a beauty. It was an every ball full tension game.
The 434 was fun, but it really was a tonkfest where the chasing team had to go for it. Death or glory. No real tactics.

Played on a postage stamp with the first of the real current generation of superbats. I just dont rate that match. Yes a ridiculous score was put up but it was either going to be a complete failure due to the pressure or chased down.

I much rather matches with a great balance between bat and ball with either a batsman really transcending everyone else around them and pulling it all together for the team or a bowling line up going out there and successfully defending a small total against a quality line up.

Good call, def the right call
The right call would have been doing it a fair while ago.

He's quite a likeable guy though and I think he's a good captain. Got the most out of himself over the journey in the coloured clothing.

Shrewd call by Finch.
If he was dropped, would find it hard to stay in the T20 side.

I bet this was orchestrated by Finch and the selectors.

A great ODI bowling spell would not compare with this innings from AB

test matches should favour the bowlers
limited overs should favour the batsmen

Really?
AB comes in at 1/250 against a tired and struggling WI attack.

There's been heaps of better knocks than that one.

Some of Shane Warne's spells buy and sell it.
His 4/29 in the tied semi-final againt SA was on another level.

Might be an unpopular opinion

Low scoring Test matches = Great
Low scoring ODIs/T20s = Not Great

When you think of great ODI's and great ODI moments, how often do you think of low scoring matches and bowling efforts ?
I went to this match at the WACA: Full Scorecard of India vs Australia 1st ODI 2015/16 - Score Report | ESPNcricinfo.com

And it was one of the most boring matches I've ever sat through. Australia lost two early wickets, India lost one, but otherwise both sides had a 200 run stand and most of the overs from about 5 through the early 40s were Rohit and Kohli, then Bailey and Smith, just rotating the strike and picking up the odd boundary. India basically cantered to a score just over 300 and then Australia chased it down with ease. Incredibly dull day at the WACA.

Finch retiring...

I don't know what he expects to face in a T20I that he isn't facing in an ODI (other than hoping his team can carry him to another cup).

No reason to be scoring 3 then 5 runs in consecutive overs when you're down to 10 overs left to bat and still have 7 wickets left in hand, and Maxwell waiting to come in.

Green Dog is going well again.
Think when Marsh returns, Stoinis misses out.

Inglis didn't do himself any favours.

If the Finch precedent is followed, Inglis will get 3 more years to make runs before being dropped.

Well
We're 2 nil up against the number rated 1 side in the world.

Must be doing something right.
We are. Our bowling is exceptional, and we have excellent batters, but our tactics around batting are far too conservative imo. Having Smith and Marnus use up so many balls and have Maxwell walk in with less than 6 overs left is just dumb cricket.

You'd think Marsh comes in for Labs and Head for Finch?

Get NZ down to something like 9 wickets down and needing 40 runs off the last over, then let Finch lob some pies and hopefully take the last wicket.

There are definitely a few Aussie fast bowlers of this era (including Abbott) who will end their careers as professionals feeling a bit hard done that they didn’t play more international cricket because there happened to be three excellent quicks ahead of them who were world class, good at all three formats, and unusually durable.
