Don't know how he could've been offered "way more than he deserves" as he won the player of the year award last year.
Probably been underpaying him for years also.

It's rumoured money wasn't the only reason why he left.

With regards to his strike rate, he was playing in the bottom side.
I think he was meant to play the anchor role but didn't get any support.

Honestly tuggs reckon he was trying to get his brand recognised by playing for an eastern states franchise ..trying to help himself more for national honours ...and I don't begrudge him for that and I reckon Voges and WA cricket would of given him there blessing.

Because honestly let's face reality scoring runs and doing well in the shield means F**k all for higher honours....it only means anything to a selective few in the view of the selectors

Like how can you pick a reserve batter in the test squad who has only scored 3 tons in the past three shield seasons...to someone who has scored 8 ?? and they were all scored opening arguably the hardest position to bat.

I heard from a reliable source at the WACA he was filthy at being overlooked in the first 4 games for Adam Lyth.
That was the main reason.

Of course, the extra dough wouldn't have hurt either.

Missed him badly I thought.

Wasn't that mainly based on his Shield performance though? His record for the Scorchers before last season was pretty average too

I don't know that Lyth was a marketing boom. I had to look up his name before I made that post.
What I meant is I suspect the BBL and its clubs don’t want to admit that they can’t attract A grade international talent, and consider it a bad look for the league if we are playing local/state players while the internationals sit on the sidelines.

Hence the clubs end up carrying the international spuds to save face for the league a bit

Just my hunch

Just saw the T20 squad for Australia.

Staggering how Stoinis gets picked over someone like Hardie.
Different bats though, Stoinis would bat 6 or 7 if he plays, Hardie doesn't seem suited to that role. That squad already seems to have too many top order bats and not enough middle order ones.

Ok

Pick someone else.
Stoinis doesn't deserve to get picked on form.
Tim David is another one whose lucky IMO.

Could Will Sutherland be an option at 7? Could help Maxwell be that 5th bowler and actually bats around there in the BBL. Don't love picking any more Vic's than we have to but he would fit perfectly role wise.

Sutherland was really the only one who showed early on that he could finish an innings (only did it once or twice though early on).

Other teams lower orders (5-7)

Perth: Evans, Connolly, Hobson
(Shame Evans isn't Australian)

Adelaide: Nielsen, Overton, Manenti
(No Thanks)

Brisbane: Bryant, Walter, Neser
(Bryant is another that works well as an opener, not as a finisher though)

Hobart: Chaudhry, David, C.Anderson
(Is Chaudhry eligible for Australia ?)

Syd Thunder: Davies, Ross, Sams
(Davies could certainly be this type of player, but not yet)

Syd Sixers: Silk, Edwards, Kerr
(Edwards another potential player, but not there yet)

Melb Stars: Stoinis, Cartwright, Wasim
(As mentioned, this is not Stoinis' best role)

Melb Renegades: Wells, M.Harvey, Sutherland,
(Not listed here, but Jack Fraser McGurk could be one that could become a finisher)

JFM gets the hype but I prefer Ollie Davies, he's doing the business in the Shield this season too.

Blooding someone like Davies/JFM would be my choice over Stoinis. Bizarre we keep going back to that well.

Sixers too good you suspect. Will be interesting to see how well the Heat bowlers hold their nerve

Wow, bonkers. I suspect he'll finish the season with a double digit economy rate.
This guy has been better this season than I gave him credit for beforehand. Might justify his price in the IPL despite subcontinent pitches
