Correct me if Im wrong but isnt Hartley only in the team because BCCI performed their usual feckery of ensuring their Pakistan born player was denied a visa. Same s**t they did to Kahawaja? Please let it be so 🙏
I was under the impression the Visa bloke was unlikely to make the XI.

I think he was expected to play. Also, born in England but a dual national through his parents.

It'd never happen but it'd be nice to have a united protest against India and their treatment of Pakistani/Pakistan-adjacent cricketers. Khawaja, English spinner, Pakistan didn't get their World Cup visas until the last day and had to cancel warm ups. You can imagine the shit India would kick up if it happened to them.

If I had a dollar for every time a debutant took 7 wickets in the final innings to guide his team to an unlikely win on foreign soil against a strong opponent on 28th January I'd have two dollars, which isn't a lot but weird that it happened twice.

Windies win, India lose

You'd have one dollar, Shamar wasn't on debut

A bit of chatter about Cummins' declaration, which I felt was a good one. But how's this for a stat? Only twice in all of Test cricket has a captain declared behind and won the match. I'm gobsmacked at that.

* NOTE: The match between South Africa and England in January 2000 is not included, as the England declaration at 0/0 was contrived.

The loss you had to have.

Don't understand the criticism of the declaration - it brought a wicket. Or of Smith - you cannot count on getting a single off the last ball of every over and you do have to trust the tailender to block out one or two balls if needed.

Anyway, always great to see the underdog triumph and hopefully shakes off the complacency.
In fairness if the stumps were even there wouldn't even have been an option of a declaration. West Indies won this game on their merit, not because of any declaration decisions made by Australia.

For anyone thinking talking about stumps/bail is whinging, just consider how footy fans would feel if we lost a game because the ball nicked a post that was closer to the other goal post than it should have been.

Have I missed something? What's the talk about bails and stumps?

Alex Carey in the first innings had a 140k + ball hit his off bail but because one stump was higher than the other, the bail span in the groove rather than being dislodged. The score would have been like 6 for a 100 or less but he ended up making 60 odd more.

The Aussies need to inject some youth it should have been done at the start of this summer to late now.
The most important series are the Ashes & India tour. I would have dropped Smith, Khawaja, Hazelwood, Warner at start of summer , Lyon & brought in the likes of ,Xavier Bartlett, Ollie Davies, Teague Wyllie, Jake Fraser-McGurk to name a few

I see your footy IQ is reflected in your cricket IQ.
