In 8 years of history Fremantle has far more often than not had very skilled players that failed to perform consistently and especially in big games.
This is the first season and first time I have looked at our list and realised we finally have at least 2 big game players.
All past finals teams have had at least one player that could take the game by the scruff of the neck, insert their dominance and win it for the side. For the crows it was Jarman and for the Roos Carey.
Pavlich and to a lesser extent bell are these players.
Their value to the team is paramount, our finals campaign lives and does on how they perform.

It wont be long before you add Haddrill, DJ , and Medhurst to that list.

I've been beating this drum all over the place tonight - but I reckon that Bell and Pav are the best Capt / V.Capt combination in the competition. They stand up and win games when it's needed.
With Pav as the captain in waiting at Freo - things are looking good in the leadership department!!

That is exactly what I think
I mean I already believe bell is the second best captain to Voss in the competition.
But as far as Captain and the player most likely to replace them the combination of Bell and Pavlich is unrivaled and perfect.

When talking about our leadership team, don't forget the silent leader of the backline, Mr. S Parker, the silent achiever. Always there, loved by the team, but regularly forgotten by the media.

He is also a worthy vice captain.

I agree Masai... but he's almost finished, hasn't played a lot this year, and unfortunately is not part of the future of Fremantle, beyond the next year or two.
That is not me bagging the bloke - he is and always has been an integral Docker - the strong, silent heartbeat of the backline, but he's not the future. :(

What about some praise for our former skipper. He has performed well all season, has been an inspiration to all the younger guys all season.
I think Bell is a better skipper than Voss because we have far more junior players in the team to set an example for.Voss is a very good skipper bur he has far more experienced players around him to help out.
Imperial you have got to be joking in regards to Shane Parker. Not part of the future?Get real. I bet Nacho Man will be doing a fair bit of talking to keep him playing for the next couple of seasons.

Read my post again Anchor man - I said beyond the next year or two...implying that Parker'll be around for another year or two...
Pav's 21 - he'll be around for 10 more years... I think that makes him more a part of the future than Parker.
BUT I AM NOT bagging Parker - I hope he and Macca will be on the dais when Freo wins the premiership in a couple more years time. Macca'll be screaming his head off, and Parks will be kind of standing in the background, jaw locked, arms folded, nodding slightly with a "I knew if I stuck at it long enough, I'd end up here. This is good stuff!" look on his face. But realistically, at age 30, who knows how much longer he has in him.
And yes, Macca is an abso-bloody-lute legend of the Fremantle Football Club - make no mistake about it. Read my post on the thread "Favourite players" to see where I stand on macca.
Cheers all
:D

:D

That is a darn good description of Macca and Parks.

Keep up the purple rage.

McPharlin needs to change the way he plays. He constantly has his hands on the back of opponents and I am so suprised by the amount he gets away with it. It's gonna cost us sooner than later!

i still stand by this. mcpharlin hasn't learnt after 8 or how many years that you can't push people in the back.

big game players ...... 5 of the players mentioned above are no longer playing...... so these days its pav obviously.. (makes me laugh in the posts above about pav being 21, VC and having the ability to change a game), Hill, haselby. lets hope if Des does play on Saturday he can do something great.

Seems to me that our aboriginie players go missing in the big games.

It seems to be a pretty consistent problem accross all AFL Clubs in finals. Just look at Leon Davis and his finals record - woeful.

It may be that this is because the "mecurial" nature of aboriginie footballers is not well suited to the close "man on man" intensity of finals football - the other possibility is that they just get overrawed by the crowd size, noice etc.

At least we now know who this troll is.

Flawed argument IMO. What about Franklin, Burgoyne, Bateman, Long, Mcleod, Wanganeen, Goodes, O'laughlin, Pickett, Winmar, Rioli, Matera, Shaun Hart and Mark Williams. Surely not all of these players have bombed in GF's, there are 6 Norm Smith and 3 Michael Tuck medallists in this list.

May well be that they are inspirational game breakers so it becomes a priority to defend against their performance in the bigger games or perhaps their opposition have a better match up for them, not necessarily about them going missing. Anybody can be overawed on the big stage, so that's a pretty general statement.
