Hi guys I'm new here.:)

I think McPhee could have a big year.

Also, Slattery will hopefully have a big one.

Who will Improve:

Courtney Dempsey and Leroy Jetta for sure. Dempsey has been working his but off in the last 2 years at the club but had got no game time mainly due to injury's, next year he'll be fit, focused and will be a real asset to the club.

I think next year Jetta will be one of our best players just because he's got great skills, good pace and has made his commitment to try and play his best footy in 2008 (he talked on SEN a while ago.)

Who won't Improve:

Andrew Lee. Have seen nothing from him in the last 2 years at the club and probably won't see anything from him next year.


There's probably a whole lot of other young players that will improve over next season so i'm getting a bit excited about what the future holds.

Agree, even though I think he's already proven himself in 2007 but he can still definitly improve. He was the best pickup essendon could have got from a stupid trade (and is still very young).
 
1. Stanton - already pretty good but I reckon he'll become an elite midfielder next year.
2. Dempsey - will be a regular in the starting 18 and become a game breaker.
3. Laycock - Will do what Hamish McIntosh did this year.

GKW, 53 out of 66 games in his first 3 seasons is a great effort, and I think his stats speak for themselves, averaging 13.5 touches per game (considering he has only recently been given opportunities to play in the middle) & figuring in our top few goal-kickers each year...

As pick # 14 in the 2004 draft, I challenge you to name 14 better performed new players from that draft:

i'm not agreeing with the other bloke but:
deledio, griffen, roughead, tambling (yes i said it), franklin, lewis, bate, wood, rusling, van berlo, rosa, prismall, lecras, cloke, smith, taylor, knights, egan and pratt have either done more than gus or would be rated higher than him at the moment.

i'm not saying that they will all end up being better than gus, but so far he hasn't taken too many games by the scruff of the neck.

however in saying that i do agree with you that 08 should be a big year for gus......but i said the same thing this time last year......

Some big calls there.

Given that Pratt and Taylor were mature age draftees, I don't think they should be included. In the long term they should, but not 3 years on. You'd expect them to have done more.

In addition, I don't think Wood, Rusling, Prismall, LeCras or Egan could be considered ahead of him just yet. They haven't taken games by the scruff of the neck any more than Angus, and have played less games.

I agree with you that Angus hasn't cracked it yet, but he isn't alone in the '04 draft.
 
just to shut those Geelong fans up!!!! Bombers V Geelong 2008 GF Bombers by 100 with sheer heart attack pace !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and we will get back to our on field performance and be strong like we used to be not just our off field performance which is good but we don't want to be a collingwood and just make profits!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

I'm not Monfries biggest fan but you are selling him pretty short there.

Yes - Delidio, Griffen, Roughead, Franklin, Lewis, Van Berlo, Cloke.

Rusling - No - 6.3 disposals average for 1.2 goals a game. 4 goals in one game where Monfries has a 5. Currently the most overrated player in the league.

Tambling - No. Don't even need a reason!

Egan - Please.

Wood - ???. 16 games for not much.

Prismall - I rate him pretty highly but he hasn't done much.

Knights, Rosa - No. I don't rate these guys at all. Take them out of a pretty good midfield and they will struggle.
 
Outside the cats , I love watching the bombers more than any other side , they have some great young kids that other clubs seem to underestimate and may take others off guard in 2008. Stanton is a real gun and should get better next year to become a match winner for you guys. And then the likes of Davey , Jeta , Laycock , Ryder & a few others . if they stand up like I think they will. Bombers will suprise all. I really think they will.

gus has shown just as much if not more than players in bold. 08 will be monfries break out season. From what ive seen of him is courage, work rate and match winning ability sure he has been inconsistent but i believe he will be the man to take us to the next level.

Im expecting a big year out of alot of the young guns and im enjoying being underrated cause its been so long since we have had kids to be proud of.

great to hear some good feedback, i think alot of ppl have a bias against essendon and therefore their opinions are often negative based on that. Thanks for the encouragement :thumbsu:

It's all about Gus - he will deliver next year what we were expecting this year.

Otherwise; I think all of our <24's will improve in one way or another. No doubt they will benefit from a fresh perspective of a new coach.
