I was surprised to read the news because I also thought he was already dead. Maybe I confused him with Clive James for some reason. He was on a few peoples list for a while and I admit he is one I had thought had already gone

A friend of mine was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in 2010. She told me at lunch when I was visiting Melbourne in May of that year. I thought it would be the last time I'd ever see her. She is one of the lucky ones. I'm having an early Christmas lunch with her and her husband on Thursday.Sam Kavanagh, racehorse trainer, 38

That’s what killed my dad. It’s great to hear that your friend is still going strong.A friend of mine was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in 2010. I'm saddened to read this. I taught Tomorrow, When the War Began back in the 90s in Year 8 at the college I was at. John came to speak to our students a few times. He was very affable and caught the imagination of our Year 8 boys, not an easy feat. I still have the copy of the novel which he autographed for me.John Marsden, author, 74. Best known for Tomorrow, When the War Began.

I absolutely loved those books. He also wrote a guide for young men that I really loved too. I'm sure I'd disagree with heaps of it reading it back now, but it made a lot of sense to teenage me and there's still one thing from it that I think about pretty regularly.John Marsden, author, 74. What advice did he give that you still think about regularly if you dont mind me asking?I absolutely loved those books. He also wrote a guide for young men that I really loved too.
