Fear Factory actually had a big return to form a couple of years ago with the album they did with Gene Hoglan on drums (Mechanised?). It was probably the heaviest thing they did since Demanufacture. They then however, preceded to follow it up with a drum programmed album that stunk, but probably snapped up a lot of sales from all the bandwagoners that bought the last album, like me. They didn't even tour for that album here and instead did that Demanufacture reunion tour here in Aus.

Soul of a New Machine is all the FF I will ever need!

There is a whole lot of bands who are on Roadrunner that I just cant get into - Machine Head, Fear factory, Devildriver, Soulfly, Lamb of God, Sepultura (post Chaos AD), Slipknot, Mastodon (Do rate their last album though to be honest) et al.

Roadrunner was a great gateway into metal in the late 90's, the 1st metal albums I ever bought were Seps - Roots, FF - Demanufacture & MH - Burn my Eyes. I dabbled in Soulfly & Slipknot early on but went in a different direction and Roadrunner was no longer relevant.

It doesn't hold a candle to the original - but they did a re-recording of Crash Test from Soul of A New Machine with Gene Hoglan. More polished but no longer grind sounding.

Roadrunner Records is a very shit label. Nuclear Blast (albeit very goddamn expensive), Napalm Records and Candlelight Records are the best labels. Seasons of Mist isn't a bad underground label either!!!

I've listened to it all the way through once and yeah, I'm a bit the same. Has some great moments but vocally I think he's trying to do too much. Sing, growl, scream, then that annoying soft whisper thing he does. And what's the go with that Imaginal Cells song? Like an instrumental with some weird voice grabs over it. That Sail into the Black song isn't really my go either. Having said that I think I need to listen a few more times to make a proper opinion.

Also bought the new Slipknot album, good listen to be honest. Doesn't sound too different to Stone Sour to my ears which is a good thing.

I really didn't like that song Sail Into the Black!!! What were they trying to do with that song? :o

I'm the same as you, dabbled in a bit of Roadrunner stuff around the 97 area. :D Deftones as well were an absolute favourite of mine for a few years there with Adrenaline and Around the Fur. It's kind of amazing to see how big they've grown these days, they were big on the nu-metal circuit for sure, but it seems over the last 5 or so years they've garnered a much broader appeal.

Yeah they were in the mix at the time, in fact i'll admit i'm a fan when looking for something completely different to listen to. Somebody recommended me Koi No Yokan?? a year or 2 ago and it's great! They kind of distanced themselves off from the Nu metal crowd at some point years ago and moved more towards the alternative/Tool kind of genre. Before that, the last album I listened to of theirs was White Pony.

Nuclear Blast? Close to the most hated one since mid-90s. And I tend to agree, have not anything great anymore and have a policy of picking any bigger band to drop them directly again when it doesn't work out moneywise while the owner drives his Porsche...

Nuclear Blast was killer around 89 - 91. Pungent Stench (first two albums), Dismember, Sinister, Macabre - probably my favourite label at the time. Century Media had Asphyx, Grave, Unleashed and Tiamat. Great times.

Haven't bought any for a long time but ebay is generally good since that's where most of the distros put their stuff up. Just watch out for crazy Euro shipping costs.

It was good when Hushy was running Coffin Slave locally because prices were good and he was reliable for packing LPs well.

Look forward to your thoughts on MViii

Listening to October Tide's "Rain Without End" and I am constantly reminded of how brilliant Katatonia were around this time (For Funerals to Come EP + Brave Murder Day). Not really a big fan of these past few releases.

I tend to use WOW HD for all my stuff. Cheapest place I can find.

I ain't gonna lie. When i loaded up the WOW HD site i thought, "This place sells metal vinyls? Ha! Yeah right!" looks like a standard site a department store like Target, Myer etc would use. :p Has everything by the looks of it though, even some of the Dark Ambient stuff i though most would never have heard of to be honest.

Ed, I cant believe you ever doubted me...(shakes finger)....you will notice they often have 2-3-4 versions of the same thing all at different prices...if you take your time you can get some good bargains in that place.

Like many I grew up on Roadrunner releases and it was a great label until around 99-01 when suddenly all their bands started releasing these horrible covers of 80s songs and went through a very unnatural change in their sound.

How a band like Machine Head that released 2 real crunching records in BME & TMTC could release something like Supercharger is an indictment on that label.

My apologies, it won't happen again. ;) :p I'll give it a good comb through on the weekend and see what i dig up. Cheers. :thumbsu:

I'm hoping to order the new albums by Decaying and Crazy Lixx (yeah, come at me bitches) this week and order one from Runemagick (start on their discography) and Hooded Menace.
