Love Hang ‘em High.
I’m done with Bundy. Just an unlikeable guy really.
I'm fascinated by the concept of ASPD, because it's so foreign to how the majority of us define our humanity. I read up a lot on it to try to get some understanding of how people like that think and feel, and consider if there's any treatment (sometimes I wonder if there's a part of them missing, that while they may be Homo Sapiens, they may not be human).
I've been reading Dr Robert D. Hare's Without Conscience lately, and while it's an old book (early 90s) it's quite informative, and has told me a lot about the shallow emotional life of the psychopath, and their lack of ability to understand, perhaps than a total disregard, of societal norms. One impression I get, and though I am yet to have children I do have plenty of younger relatives to draw upon for this, is that the psychopath resembles a three year old who has just learnt how to lie in their attempts at blame shifting and inability to take responsibility for their actions, but without that natural affection that the normal three year old shows to their loved ones, which does give birth to the standard sulkiness after getting into trouble, which is really the beginnings of the ability to express guilt and remorse.
I watched Bundy's final interview on youtube the other day. He was about to be put to death, and though I am personally against the death penalty he really does challenge my convictions, and instead of acknowledging the impact of his crimes, he shifts the blame. To pornography, of all things. And tries to cast himself as a moral crusader, in stating that pornography will produce more Ted Bundys. The lack of insight and ability to self-reflect even in his final hours...I don't know what to think.
