“We need players who can challenge our starting XI, players who believe in themselves and think: ‘OK, I can challenge Dele Alli, I can challenge Harry Kane,”

“Harry Kane knows very well from when he was behind [Roberto] Soldado and [Emmanuel] Adebayor what happens when you’re not focused for a moment, if another player is behind you pushing for a chance if you don’t give your best.

“You cannot guarantee that they [new signings] will play, but you can guarantee the tools to challenge our current players. If they are better and they deserve to play, they will play.”

“If you look at the history of Tottenham in the last few years, we always spend at the end of the window.

“Chairman Daniel Levy is working hard with the chief scout [Steve Hitchen], we are working hard to deliver and try to add the strength we need to fight in four competitions next season.

“It’s not an easy job,” added Pochettino, who remains confident the club will recruit wisely. “We will find the right players to challenge.”

Looks like squad depth is on its way to me..

**** me Danny Rose has gone full rogue with his interview with The Sun. Went about it the exact same way he plays, hard & honest.

If he wasn't Poch's pet I'd be extremely worried he'd be demanding a move with such a statement. But I think he has done this to get a new contract and knows that Poch will back him 100% to get the contract.

Encouraging news but Levy never learns does he. Reckon we could be in for a pretty shit august again

Meh. Not fussed. The club needs to grow up.
If we want to retain our best players we need to drastically improve our wages and need to attract top players to help win trophies.

It really does boil down to that. Wages and trophies.

I don't actually think it's that big of a deal. He isn't happy with his current contract and wants to force the issue a bit. It's not like he isn't worth it and deserves to be in that top earner bracket.

Tbh I'd have Lloris, Toby, JV, Dembele, Alli, Eriksen, Kane and Rose all at the same 100k-150k a week mark. They're all players we wouldn't want to upgrade with anyone in the PL so they should be the highest earners at the club

Certainly seems that way, this is why you need to show ambition and why our wage bill must massively increase.
This will keep happening as long as we're the lovable nearly men with underpaid players.

The ****ing ridiculous thing about Rose is that he signed a 5 year deal mid ay through last season, before getting injured, and said this:

What's the ****s he doing signing a long contract if he wanted to go back up North the whole time.

This situation smells really bad. Wouldn't be surprised if it was directed by his agent or from another club, City or United most likely, getting in his ear.

wow that makes him look real bad

shame we cant just get sessengon now tbh

Also, here's a great piece from Windy on the whole shambles. Features a really salient point about our wages too; as a percentage of turnover it's actually higher than both City and United, and not that far from Liverpool and Arsenal. The whole idea that we should be paying players what they're worth is nice, but it's not practical or sustainable until we build the new stadium and we can actually increase our turnover.

Just checked on trasnfermarkt he has the same agents as walker. They're trying to force his way out and earn a pay packet for themselves. Add 10m on to what we sold Walker to or Danny can **** off to Leeds for free when he is 31 in 4 years

I'd be more ruthless. Give him a chance to fall into line and commit to the team.
If he doesn't then buy a LB and sit him in the U23's for his contract length.

Think the whole of English football will be laughing at him and not with him at the end of this window.

Really doubt anyone will stump up 50+ for him after 9 months out injured

If a club from outside of the England wants to pay $50 million for Rose, let him go.

Pump the money received into wages for the guys like Alderweireld who are actually on the field making a difference.

Great read and does put things into perspective.

We can/should only be paying wages that equate to 50-53% of our total income. Chelsea are the only club to really go well above 55% of turnover.

Just look at the cricket CBA they're asking for 25% aren't they?

Yep. Well the club aren't happy.
Have been releasing social media posts counting down the season. 5 days to go there was Vertonghen posted. 4 days to go it was Alderweireld...

3 days to go and they post our 3 goals v Swansea.
They are not happy with Rose. Awkward!

I wonder when 6 + 8 will taken? Dier and Wanyama are good enough for them but must be happy with their current numbers. IIRC has anyone wore them since Huddlestone and Parker?
Hahahahaha

What's concerning is the reports that have come out today. Depending on you read, some of the other players have either privately agreed with Rose's comments about wages or applauded him and given him a 'hero's welcome (guess which paper wrote that)' on his return to the training ground.
