IF Hudson goes down, the Crows are badly exposed in the ruck
Possibly. Biglands went down before the draft and before Clarke retired. Either Clarke truly didnt want to play for the Crows anymore ( and the conspiracies can start here) or the AFC felt that IF Hudson did go down that the playing group has sufficient coverage. The positive spin would be '' that to make a man you need to find the boy'' . We will see very quickly what Maric and Meesen can do if Hudson goes down.

IF Ricciuto & Welsh cannot stay fit, options are limited, so if plan A aint working, where is plans B C etc, without robbing Peter to pay Paul?
Welsh played how many games? I wouldnt even consider him as an A option. Porplyzia, Douglas ( though it seems he is being tested more on the back half) Vince and Gill all have as much claim as Welsh ( imo)

Percentage wise I believe that due to history, these "possibles" are not just wild rantings.
Yes recurring knee injuries in ruckmen do have a higher % of happening.

Who would have figured a parvo virus would strike Roo down. It may still be in his system, who knows.

Absolutely because a club will delist a player because of talent not age.

So if thats the case why would we delist a proven ruckman at AFL level in Biglands?????

In 2 or 3 years the odds will be a lot stronger for Maric and Meesen being better player than Rhett Biglands.

That is assuming they make the grade, want to stay with the AFC, lets tick those boxes off first before we asess whom is better than who:thumbsu:

And you are correct that we do not know who will be in the team in 2 or 3 years but the AFC premiership odds would not be good if Rhett Biglands was still in the ruck.

Why he is a proven ruckman at AFL level:confused: Goodwin and Edwards will still be playing in the midfeild in 2-3 years time, does that still mean our premiership odds would be any worse????

At least we are now getting some healthy football debate going over a few threads now, the draft games were good and a bit of fun for a few weeks but (can not speak for others) I lost interest in that few weeks ago.

Football is almost back and now we can start the examination of the actual game again.

Football isnt even close yet it's the 16th of Jan for crying out loud.

Now that's not a definitive statement, as it's heavily qualified.

The young chaps have to firstly

a) improve

b) sign on again

Even then it's not a given that Biglands would be delisted - but he could be.

Let's just watch Meesen and Maric with interest and watch it all unfold.

Craig and crew will get it right IMO, whatever that right proves to be. :thumbsu:

That is my opinion, the AFC will make the decision and they will get it right, as I have said it would have been a very dumb decision to ask Biglands to retire when they have a ruckman coming back from a 18 mth injury and two unproven ruckmen on the list.

Biglands future, whether he is retained for 2008 and beyond, is subject to what happens in 2007.

In 2007, Adelaide go into the season with an inexperienced ruck division which is potentially far better than the former combination of Clarke & Biglands. But it is full of IFs.

IF Hudson can return to the form he showed in 2005.
IF Hudson can stay fit and not succumb to another knee injury - as so many have before him.
IF Maric & Meesen continue to develop and show the form we all hope they are capable of.

IF things go our way, Adelaide could have one of the best and most exciting ruck divisions in the competition. IF this happens, then Biglands' position on the list in 2008 would be in jeopardy as the club would feel confident that they can cope without his presence.

On the other hand...

IF Hudson succumbs to another knee injury.
IF Maric & Meesen fail to live up to their promise.

IF things don't go our way then Adelaide could be in diabolical trouble. IF things pan out this way, then Biglands would almost certainly be retained as he is a "known factor" - the Crows hierarchy know what they will get out of him week-in-week-out.

It all depends upon 2007...

This pretty much sums it up......:thumbsu:

Excellent post and again highlights how very unwise it would of been for the AFC to ask Biglands to retire at the end of the 2006 season.

2007 a year full of If's:(

lets not forget that a good ruckman can play well into his mid 30s.

Have I missed something , Since when has Rhett Biglands been a good AFL ruckman?

How many of his hit out gives us a direct advantage?

He has always been considered a good ruckman, have a look at his stats, when has Maric and Meeson ever been good ruckmen at AFL level, or have I missed something:confused:

A 134 game player is fairly well established at AFL level.

Kicked 20 goals in 2006.

Doesnt give hitouts in those stats:confused:

No we arent I have already told you that before dont you get it, now tell me how many players on our list have no talent???

I see no need to answer the rest of that question because you will just contradict yourself and then go around in a circle by umming and erring and then suggest that I want to delist everyone.

I cannot see the point in keeping a 30 year old ruckman (with a long term injury) and a second tier player who has exceeded all his talents and is not going to get any better.

In 2008 are those stats going to make him a better player than the 25 year old Dean Cox's?

Anyone remember the chorus of the Diana Ross song "Upside Down"?

"Upside down
Boy, you turn me
Inside out
And round and round"

That would be verrrrrry appropiate at the minute.

Answer the question

I cannot see the point in keeping a 30 year old ruckman (with a long term injury) and a second tier player who has exceeded all his talents and is not going to get any better.

How do you know that is a fact??? Why dont we delist every player who we dont think will get any better:rolleyes:

Reilly, Thompson, McGregor, Perrie, Welsh want me to keep going???

yes it looks like you have missed something :D

why would you think he hasn't been a good AFL ruckman?

He is a proven ruckman at AFL level, that is a fact, he has played 134 games that is a fact, he is a ruckman who also can kick goals that is a fact.

Biglands is a good AFL proven ruckman, and that is a fact.

I appreciate that it was never going to be a good move ethically or morally for the AFC to ask Rhett Biglands to retire but for the betterment of the club, that something they should have considered.

Now this is what I do not understand – if we are not a premiership contender in 2007 (according to Marty), how are we going to become one when he returns in 2008?

He is not the missing ingredient.

Mate.. I think the BIG issue with your being so repetitive on this point is that you keep going on about it like thats a decision that can be made NOW.

IT CAN'T!

I don't think anyone has disagreed with you, that all things going to plan, there will be no space for Biglands in the side in 2008. You will probably get alot of support for the ideal in that there is no place for Massie as well because all our youngsters have EARNT their spots and left him for dead.

I think we all want that to happen (anyone disagree please speak up).

BUT

just coz we want it doesn't mean it will happen that way. Remember last year and the horror run with injury we had.. that happens again and Biglands and Massie will be very required players in 2008. And I think your being incredibly foolish and a little immature to continually agree with that point put to you in numerous ways from numerous people. Yes you're entitled to your opinion. But thats my opinion after reading 14/15 pages of you continually ignoring collective wisdom.
