Biglands

Sadly for Biglands, this injury has occurred at a critical stage of his career. He is contracted until the end of this year only, by which time he will be 30, and if Maric Meesen and Griffin all blossom and sign on for longer, his AFL career might well be over.

Hate to break it to you guys, but he's signed for 2008 as well. Signed a 2-year contract about a month before his knee injury. The cost of paying out 2-years worth of contract probably played a large role in the decision not to axe him at the end of 2006.

That’s easily fixed then, the WWT get a ruckman with AFL experience and a bad knee.

Shakes head in amazement –

What is the major objective every club wants to achieve every year? (Please answer this)

Isn’t it to win a premiership, not to finish second or third or even sixteenth for draft picks but to win a premiership? In the last 2 year we have not been good enough (for what ever reason) so how are we going to become a premiership team if we keep the same player year in year out and do not introduce new players into the system.

I do not want to finish 2nd or 5th or even 16th, I want to win a premiership and win one as soon as possible (hopefully every year).

Hopefully so do you. If you do not understand that then I am sorry because you must follow the sport for a different reason than I do.

For crying out loud be realistic clubs either know or they know for sure they are going to be a premiership contender 2007 wont be our year nor will 2008, 2009, 2010 but to just go around slashing players for players who havent proven anything is damn well utter rubbish, no club would do that, as I ahve said a clubs opportunity to win a premiership comes around every 8 years we had three oportunities to nail it 2002, 2005 and 2006 and we ballsed them all up now enjoy the tough years again, its the tough years that shows who are the fair dinkum supporters and who the bandwagoners are.

May passion or anything else hasnt and never will change for the AFC but at the same time Im a realist.

That is crap, utter crappolla.

You are not a realist, you are a defeatist who is simply using “lets keep certain players on the list longer than they need to be” as an excuse.

If Neil Craig is serious about winning a premiership in the next 3 or 4 years then he will delist two or three players over 26. You can argue with me about this all you like but if he is serious and committed to making this happen, he will make the tough call on a few players. You may not want to accept it but it will happen. It has happened in the past and it will happen in the future.

We cannot afford to lose Ricciuto, Goodwin, Edwards and McLeod in a 2 year period and expect Doughty, Massie; Shirley to be able to step into there shoes as midfield leaders and makes us a competitive side. That will not happen.

Im really beginning to wonder about you:rolleyes:

So every single player who manages to play more than 100 games will walk away from the game when they are ready?

It’s called making the tough decisions in the best interest of the club.

Well bright eyes, that is what will happen weather you like it or not other wise you are going to have a list with 30 + yr olds who are on the verge of retirement, old bodies and chance of injury hanging over them and a group of young players 20 yr olds, geez what a great looking list that would be.

Note to NC please in all your infanite wisdom please delist all our players between the ages of 25 -30 as C98 feels they are all crap:rolleyes:

You are a dullard C98 everyone on this thread has told you the same thing I have yet you listen to nobody:thumbsd:

So in the next two years you are going to retire/delist upto 12 players:rolleyes:

So far you have Ricciuto, Goodwin, Mcleod, Edwards, Biglands, Massie, Shirley Doughty, Bassett, Perrie, Welsh, Burton that you are basically are saying you would get rid of:rolleyes:

Hypothetically who would be your likely delisting at the end of this year?

I know it’s early but for this sake of the argument it’s valid.

NO you ********ing moron, FFS.

At the end of 2007 - Massie and Biglands should go if form isn't up to the standard needed. (you are the moron who said Ricciuto, Goodwin, McLeod, Edwards, Doughty, Shirley, Bassett, Perrie, Welsh, Burton)

Mark Ricciuto has 2 maybe 3 years left, Simon Goodwin, Tyson Edwards and Andrew McLeod have about 3 or 4. Nathan Bassett and Brett Burton have about the same (4 or 5 years)

Rebuilds should be through continuous development, not the slash and burn method

Getting rid of Massie is not needed. Good clubs maintain a level because PLAYERS want to achieve.

I do have 2 policies on this. The first is that new players should get a block of games to assess their level and desire. This can be done without taking away from the other players nor the games played. The other policy I like to see is the '' if your good enough you will take a spot''

So if Pfeiffer or Hinge is good enough to take Massies spot then they will....but they shouldnt be handed it as a token. Play them if Massie is injured and give them a chance to prove themselves.

You keep players like Massie and Biglands on your list because its insurance, plus if THEY want it they improve as noticed by both Massie and Biglands

Oh and allefgib ..top post

Settle petal. If you need to resort to this you have lost the argument

My feelings

Mark Ricciuto has 2 maybe 3 years left,
2

Simon Goodwin, Tyson Edwards and Andrew McLeod have about 3 or 4.
I actually think McLeod has his contract to run and would not surprise me at all if this was his last year. The other 2 at least 3

Nathan Bassett and Brett Burton have about the same (4 or 5 years)
Yep fair call, 4 easy

Ok I apologize, but where have I said that I endorse the delisting of all those players at once? I have only ever implied that Kris Massie and Rhett Biglands should be looked at. Anything else has either been implied by someone else or assumed that what i meant.

Kris Massie because he has a broken jaw and will find it difficult to break into the side this year (and in the AFL environment it is mandatory to delist 3 player every year) and Rhett Biglands because we need to give an opportunity to John Meesen and Ivan Maric.

It’s Just like Mark Mickan was asked to retire at the end of 1992 after winning the Best and fairest in 1991, so Shaun Rehn could get that opportunity to play and develop into a quality AFL ruckman.

.

Maric and Meesen WILL be given an opportunity this year and then we can assess who we need to delist after the season. If Maric and Meesen go backwards would you still delist Biglands?

Same as Massie. Leave it till August at least

Biglands - yes because IMO we have to move forward.

Massie - fine.

Now there's an idea!;)

That’s fine but isn’t that what this forum is all about?

Airing your own and viewing other supporter’s opinions.

If we left everything up to the club and didn’t have an opinion about anything, there wouldn’t be a need for the Big Footy forum.

Now there's an idea!;)

Exactly C98 has jumped 18 mths ahead, basically come out and said every player on our list between the age of 25 and 30 is a dud and wants to get rid of them all:rolleyes:

Nothing has been proved yet, Maric and Meeson havent proved themselves, Knights hasnt as yet, the only player that has proved themselves thus far is Van Berlo, get a grip on it all C98 and stop being abusive, nobody else has resorted to abuse, keep it up and your posts will be reported:thumbsd:

Your statements as everyone else has told you are wrong on both Biglands and Massie, how about you listen to what you are being told instead of looking like a fool.

But you dont pay any attention what anyone else is saying, we tell you there is no point in delist either Massie or Biglands you come back and tell us yes we need too, well if that is your arguement the AFC should delist every player between the ages of 25 and 30.

Then the next bit you come back and say you are happy for Riccuito, Mcleod, Goodwin and Edwards to be around for the next 5 years yet you want to introduce new players, so how do you achieve that when you are happy to hold onto older players that will become more injury prone and dont give the youngsters ago, which is what you propose to do???

Your whole arguement is flawed its not funny, you want to delist a 27 year old with 6-7 years in front of him and a pretty handy player also, yet you are happy to hang onto Riccuito who hasnt got the engine anymore to play midfeild:rolleyes:

You think the AFC is going to listen to you, me or anyone on this forum:confused:

I damn well hope they dont because right now NC will be delisting every player between the ages of 25 and 30 according to your thoughts:eek:

So this season is just a waste of time as we can not win the premiership?

It’s called having an opinion, as apposed to contradicting myself.

Never assume as you will just make an arse out of yourself.

And as gun as Porplyzia looked last year, he has to back it up this year. VB, Reilly, and particularly Thompson MUST step up a cog this year. Thommo had an awesome first season, but IMO last year he dropped down a peg or two. Made some fundamental stuff ups and then seemed scared to attack the ball for fear of being penalised. Having said that he had maybe one or two crack games last season but not up to the standard of the previous one. Sad to see Biggie injured, and should all things go to plan this year, he will be lucky to retain a spot. Also sad to see Massie injured - while not a "star" player, he is a hard worker and we will miss him. It wouldn't surprise me to see both of them delisted at the end of 2007.

As for the "older" gang, I'd not be surprised to see Roo only play this year (unless they have overcome whatever it was that stuffed him for last season - groin or OP) but would love him to play up forward for 3 years. I think McLeod has at least 2 years left and Goodie and Edwards at least 3.

Please do not try and compare Mark Ricciuto, Simon Goodwin, Tyson Edwards and Andrew McLeod’s level of importance to the side to Kris Massie and his level of importance to the side.

It is not even close.
