Apparently Mat Carr is going to play reserves all season. Something about him being part of the coaching staff and not allowed to play league.

Well he will be the most expensive reserves player running around. $10 000 transfer fee for a reserves player? SD must have money to burn!

Just read the West's "our state game" which, tbh, is quite a good read and the biggest pre-season promo I've seen of the WAFL since Roo Boucher was running around doing the 1 armed push ups.

Anyhoo, my query is the actual amount of football knowledge the journos that have tipped the final ladder positions have. The journos are Townsend, Lewis, Beacham, Wilson, Hope and Reid.

5 of the 6 have tipped Perth to finish 3rd or 4th. Obviously a few demons members amongst the journo fraternity because no-one would put their hard earned on them. All of them tipped Subi and Souths to finish 1-2 (3 saying Souths on top and 3 Subi). Whilst a likely outcome, I consider that simply following the herd mentality, I mean we all know how capable souths are of under performing. Subi may have had enough after 3 premierships, who knows???

The 2 biggest improvers I see are Easts and Claremont and Easts were nominated by 3 to finish in the 4, Claremont by 2 and East Perth and West Perth (who you can never discount by only 1). So there are 2 teams that are not given a chance of finishing in the top 4, yep Swannies and Peel. Now I don't care if people don't think we can finish in the 4, but logic would tell me, as a punter, that we would have as much chance as Perth, very strange. But hey, more reasons for boys to be motivated to back up last years effort!!

Chrsco I think the prediction by many of Perth to finish top four is largely based on the ability of Andrew Jarman to make a difference plus the addition of Armstrong, Moody and Ferguson.

I think every WAFL club with possibly the exception of EP have a realistic chance of making the four. Peel, EF and Claremont will probably be stronger than I had earlier thought. SD and Subi have suffered significant losses without gaining much but should still be there abouts, SF have recruited well and WP haven't lost anyone and picked up a couple of players.

It all augurs well for a very interesting season.

Yep, agree with what you're saying and hopefully Jars will instill even more interest in the WAFL across the board which I think will happen.

I do think it will be a most interesting season, which last season was, it just panned out the same 2 teams were top 2, but that almost didn't happen, if Swans or another team, could have won one more game against Souths I think they would have gone to 3rd? I certainly don't see Subi being the streets ahead they have been.

Anyway, Swannies won with Notte, who was influential in patches but still drifts out of the game in the second half. Take a bow Josh Pullman, marked just about everything in sight tonight, hit packs hard and chased and tackled when his other forward mates stood around with their hands on hips. Those that saw will know what I mean, he single handedly created that goal that Notte snapped in the last when Pullman centred to the top of the goalsquare. Lewis Jetta was also good, so was Roberts, Spencer got better, Spaanders plays his guts out, Robinson, Wolfenden and Twomey ran hard all game. Liam Maguire did some nice things, reads the play so well, nice to have him back on deck.

Good job swannies, now for Subi again, but at Basso this time!:thumbsu:

Chrsco I rate Pullman quite highly from what I saw of him in the prelim and GF. He reminds me of Scott Cummings but by the sounds of it he works a bit harder.

There you go people, back in the skin I'm most comfortable with! Metamorphosed as swannies, that feels better. :thumbsu::cool:

A ripper? He's an fn freak, no one can touch him.

Spanders looked in real trouble but he wasn't holding his wrist as he ran off so who knows

Yep, Spaanders is a big worry for us, he was phenomenal today and I hope that wrist is OK, or that Naita is ready Friday night!

Lewis Jetta, what can you say, phenawesome!:D

Lets just hope the Dockers snaffle young jetta next draft. He looks a keeper for sure.

Now Now young cp3, we don't want to ruin him! :p I'llbe happy if he stays in WA, that's for sure, and brings his brother? Neville back!!:thumbsu:

Wow. That's all i can say.

I thought on draft day our run was over, but after the weekend i think we could be better than last year.

We just have such a balanced side.

There were so many options through the middle. It was amazing to see such a strong midfield rotation. Up forward we look solid, seems to be a good set up with Bowers, Pullman and the smalls.

Key backs will be our biggest improvement. Tallan looked in excellent touch and as fit as i have seen him, while Spencer looked a good fit at CHB. I think those two could be our biggest wildcards for the season as i don't see guys like Smith and Campbell tearing us apart like last season. Also allows Geappon to play the third swingman tall between forward and back where i think he is better suited. Say against Perth could play on a Ransted at West Perth on a Longmuir, while when we play against say Peel or Claremont without a tall backline can go forward and stretch there defence.

Still not sold on Matt Carr, he came across with that touch of arrogance that past AFLers sometimes have, taking guys on etc... but i did like the fact that as he has been in the coaching box it gives Dawson a set of eyes and ears on the ground.

Plus add the likes of Ryan Davis, Hinkley, Clancee and the other AFLers we should give this premiership a red hot crack!!!!!!

Oh and imagine Mick Walters coming into that side. Lewis, Graham and Mick roaming forward... Salivating at what they could produce on the field!!! We will be the most fun and exciting to watch even when we don't win.

But signs look brilliant!!!!!!! Extremley confident going into the season.

And anyone (swannies :p) know of when Lange will be good to go and where Josh Roberts is?

Both Lange and Roberts have been named for tonight.

I'm trying to not get too carried away with pre-season form but there are signs that the Swans could really challenge again this year.

As you said, Ames and Spencer are good additions to our finals side last season. They add strength and stability to what was an undermanned backline and Lange returns into the middle.

We are also likely to receive plenty of service from the AFL listed players and perhaps additional time from Hansen and Hunter depending on form and improvement of the likes of Kennedy and MacKenzie.

You'd also suspect this season we won't be hit as dramatically by the absent players attending the under 18's carnival.

Was anyone else disappointed at the final siren? I balance that out by saying we rarely win at Freo oval, but I thought we were in for a dour struggle in the second quarter when we couldn't overrun Souths. I was talking to an old souths supporter there and he said "swannies will over run us in the second half", my response was I'm not so sure because you've outrun us this quarter. Great having a reasonable chat with opposition supporters. :thumbsu:

Anyway, I was surprised Pullman was left out and hopefully he forces his way back in. Bowers was too in and out of the game, whereas Josh contests for the full 120 minutes. This souths supporter also said James Embley was terrific in the ressies, so hopefully we get the seconds keeping pressure on the firsts.

Although we lost this one, don't get me wrong, I hadn't pencilled in or anything, but still buoyant for the rest of the year. The colts will be tested tomorrow because Souths have a pretty good colts squad this year as well.

Go Swannies!:thumbsu:

Well, we unearthed another young player, eh? Neil Martin, number 50, very impressed with his game. Spaanderman is absolutely Heruclean at the moment and I bet he can't wait until Naita get's there to give him some break. If he doesn't do his lolly and get suspended and keeps playing like this, Spaanders would have to be in the running for the Sandover.

Hopefully Notte's injury is not too bad, if anyone knows, put me out of my misery? Although you would expect Josh Pullman to come in and cover for him pretty well.

Anyone get to see colts? I saw up to 3/4 time on Saturday and will be meeting some friends from Peel, whose son plays in their colts, on Saturday morning to watch them. Daly looks good again this year, perhaps better. Clint Garlett looks a little more mature and is a very good player. Adam McKinlay is a pretty good CHF, hopefully can translate this to seniors, or AFL if he gets selected. Luke Bonnett and Sam Pullman played super matches yesterday, Bonnett continuing on from last year and also looks to have matured. Good signs all round!:thumbsu:

Just read on the Eagles website that Notte is out for 5 weeks with a knee

Thanks Jack, that's good news, not the dreaded knee injury.

shit! Huge loss.

No doubt Pullman will be back.

How's Johnson been?

Johnson kicked 2 in the ressies on Sat, but not sure how long it will take them to put him back in because of the debacle at the beginning of the season. In pre-season he was a rock in defence, Clancee got 25 odd posessions on Sat, so he may be marginally in front. At least we're developing some depth now.
