Re: Blake staying at Geelong

Talking about it on SEN at the moment. Talking with Mark Doran and the journo from Herald Sun.

Discussing the fact that Blake is young, will replace King but should also should be labelled as number 2 ruck next year, plus the prospect of winning a flag one day.

Re: Blake staying at Geelong

so is king going or not. What's the go with that. And what would king's salary be?

Re: The Official Mark Blake thread

Silence by Law is assumed to be in the negative.
Why would StKilda offer him a three year contract if he wanted to stay? Imo he is trying to force the club into making a decision b/w King and himself.

Or it could be that the saints are simply being proactive as they themselves said.
They need a ruckman, Blake is out of contract and there's been a lot of speculation surrounding him, none fuelled by the kid himself by the way, so what do they have to lose by putting in an offer?
To suggest that Blake is trying to force the clubs hand is nothing more then continued speculation.

Seem to recall that Bomber was silent on his intentions for next year also, and we know what he's doing.

Re: Blake staying at Geelong

Money and a three year deal!

apparently st kilda are offering over $800,000 for the 3 years...he would be silly not to consider it as we're not going to be able to offer him that much, and we did just shaft him outta the biggest winning margin in AFL premiership history!

but IMO we fight hard to keep blakey, 6 years kings junior and send the old fella away with an AFL and VFL medallion...

Re: Blake staying at Geelong

King said he is prepared to take a 50% paycut, or even play on performance money only. He just wants to stay at the GFC.

Re: Blake staying at Geelong

There was talk in one of the 'tissues' that the Saints might be prepared to give up (I think) round 9 pick for Blake to circumvent the Tiges interest in him. IF that was true (big if) I'd grab it.

and what happens if otto gets injured??? king, i highly doubt, could stand a long portion of time as our #1 without injuring himself...
also this years draft isnt that strong, so its not like we'll get another J Selwood with a pick such as #9

Re: Blake staying at Geelong

King has enourmous respect from the players. One player said earlier this year, 'if I could break my leg for a guy to come into this side, it would be Kingy'.

Re: Blake staying at Geelong

dare I say it but that's the sort of attitude that brings respect from other players.

that is a pretty bold statement, but he probably realises that he hasnt earnt his dough the last few years...cant keep both king and blake, keep blake IMO

There's a guy called West who has more potential than Blake in my view. And regarding the draft depth "Shifter" Sheehan reckons there was quite some depth this year. Reckon he should know.

If st kilda are really offering Blake that much its a joke. There is no way known at this stage of his career is Blake worth that much. I would much rather King as St Kilda do have 2 project ruckmen at the moment and Kings experience and fingers crossed Gardiner thats what we need. NO BLAKE!!!!

He looks really good around the ground but how does he go against proper ruckman in a one on one?

Re: Blake staying at Geelong

I don't blame the saints for making a dip at Blakey. He is 22 and has enormous potential to be a great ruckman. Just look at the improvement he made this year to consistently get a game in the senior side. Kingy may still have a few good years left in him if he can stay injury free, but Blakey is the future and the Cats would be crazy to let him slip through their fingers.

The Saints would be attractive for Blakey too as they do have finals potential with their list as opposed to Richmond who would still be a few years off yet. I really hope he stays with us as he is a terrific young bloke and if we make the GF next year and he plays then all the bitter memories of 2007 will soon be erased.

The fact he is getting good offers from other clubs at this stage of his career speaks volumes of how highly many rate him and his future.

Shush! Your recruiting guys might read that.:)

Re: The Official Mark Blake thread

Was quoted in one of the papers "will give his answer before he leaves on his end of season trip" which is today.
IMO his silence says it all!! :(

Not really. They have managers who do all the talking for them incase that let something slip. If you were blake, would you go to St Kilda? I'd rather stay with Geelong who are closer to winning a flag than the aints not mention the attachment to the club as well. Its alot to give up for little in return except the money.

Father Blake speaks of son's disappointment

The father of Mark Blake has come out and said that not only Mark is disappointed that he was dropped from playing the Grand Final but has also lashed out at his former club, saying that it was handled "poorly" and Mark was in a miserable state. Perhaps father-son story will turn out to be a sad one? Should Mark Blake leave the Cattery?
