I've been wondering for a while why Blakey is in the side. There's not much that he offers the team and quite honestly I think the only reason he is there is due to his dad.

The question now beckons who is the best ruck combo whilst otto is out. IMO mummy is definately ahead of Blake but I'd even go so far as to say that West is ahead Blake too. I've heard he has been in the best players in the seconds over the past few weeks too which raises another question. Why would they not be giving West a chance to prove himself? He is obviously more agile and would no doubt be a better shot at goal than Blake. I can't think of any reason why they wouldn't be giving the mummy/West combo a go

Oh wow, bad or worse...

I'd take Blake, he can actually tap out of the ruck (even if it is to the other team half the time), something which West struggles to do. Both are non factors around the ground.

Hmm, i agree that combo should be given a shot West has been in some form, in part i'd also say Geelong might feel slightly bad for Blake after last years GF, he could very well miss out again.

If you ask who is the better ruckman Mumford or Blake it would be Blake although Mumford is catching up. If you ask who is the better player it is Mumford. Blake is better in the ruck but hopeless anywhere else. Which is a few more hit outs a game worth playing a player that does nothing else?

If memory serves West had '0' possessions (or there abouts) in his last senior game.

Has anything that drastic changed in the 2's since? (Serious question).

West doesn't play ruck in the 2's while blake and dawson do, he seems to play chb, and does ok, so blake is our best bet at getting effective hitouts and clearances for our midfielders. With ous superb midfield, blake hasn't had to be much more than what he offers, and now with our mids being used elsewhere, I reckon blakey's up to the challenge. West for a kpp.

it is clear that the club wants to build west into a key possie player, and it work out for the best
if he could hold down chb, awesome proposition against monster forwards

Having said that, could he be more of a swingman able to play both back and forward and pinch hit in the ruck? If this could happen and he could do at least 2/3 effectively he could be more than a very handy addition to the team, and a better option than Lonergan....

Be serious, last time in couldn't even get his hand on the ball.
Lonergans' starting to show he can make a tall defender, was surprised he was made an emergency only this week.
Wouldn't be surprised if he plays.
A more aggressive Mark Blake was what I saw last week, and I believe we need his centre bounce strength to assist young Mumford.
He carn't do it on his own. We lost games when Mumford was one out.

I think it's far too late in the season to be trialling any more changes. It's Ottens/Mumford/Blake with Mooney/Hawkins backups and nothing else for mine.

West could be our Jason Blake, flexible to play both ruck and key position as the situation suits.

Mark it down, West to have a breakout 2010, i just hope its at Geelong!

spot on. Just hoping Otto can come up for the finals. I really thought he would play this week even though he had an ordinary game in the magoos last week.

Agreed, thought by the sounds of thing Bomber wanted Otto to play and it sounds like he was outvoted on that one.

Yep, the club has obviously made a decision that West cant make it in our best 22 as a ruckman. They have set him a challange of becoming a centre half back which is a good move considering Harley will retire, Egan will never play again and Lonergan will probably be delisted. He appears to be really developing nicely in this role. Next year will make or break him.

They've set him the task of CHB... yet when I watched the Geelong v Carlton reserves match he was playing up forward.

Was this simply because Pods went off, or am I being confused here. What is the plan for West? He seemed to do alright up forward from what I saw, but thought he contributed well to the game being utilised where the coach needed him.

West has played CHB and CHF at different times over the past 2 years in the magoos.I would like to have seen him get a run at CHB in the seniors when Harry and Scarlo were out.

It's very easy to only have a dig at Blake...so that's what I'm gonna do. His rubbish handball to Wojo cost us the game. We won a lot of centre clearances so his tap work was alright, but it didn't help us. We'd kick it into the forward line, nothing would happen, they'd rebound and kick a goal. Happened over and over.

West won't be ready for finals footy, it's gonna have to be Mumford on his own.

blakes always been a complete s*** c***. i wish i was 7" id b guaranteed an afl game.

He cost us the goal before that one too. He won a tap but put it right in the lap of one of the Dogs, then the next contest he didn't even contest. Not good enough when the game is in the balance like that.

I am a bit over 7" and I dont get a game, or are we talking girth?

I was waiting for the 'he cost us the game". Shit handball, was a poor decision, now let me list the players who made piss poor decisions tonight:

  • Scarlett - was terrible in patches, went to ground, bad handballs, soft frees.
  • Joel Corey - eeekkkk.
  • Mooney - you can miss, but not by that much.
  • Wojac - When you get a shit handball and you are under the pump, take the ball, dont try and flick it on. Wrap it up and let Blakey go at it again.

Not the worst tonight Blake.

He was serviceable for most of the night, but too often looks like a rabbit in headlights when the pressure is applied. Should not be playing AFL football.

I didn't and wouldn't suggest he was the worst tonight. But it was a crucial moment in the game that ended it as a contest. Momentum gone, we were gone.
