BlazingDon#9's Mock Draft

I will only do the first round of the draft, as my knowledge past it is not sufficient to put together.

#1 Melbourne Demons. [Jack Watts]: It is pretty much clear who the number one draft selection is going to be this year, Jack Watts. He is arguably the best player in the draft and suits Melbourne's needs, a key position forward to replace Neitz, with Robertson also aging they will look to start building their forward line up and again and Watts would fit Melbourne perfectly.

#2 West Coast Eagles. [Nicholas Naitanui]: The Eagles will shuffle between Naitanui and Rich for this selection but the biggest indication of them wanting to pick Naitanui is when they desperately tried to dump Seaby in trade week. A perfect replacement Cox once he is done and dusted. Naitanui will develop nicely for the time being, second string to Cox would be a good learning curve, not to much pressure while able to show glimpses.

#3 Fremantle Dockers. [Stephen Hill]: Here it is the top five pick surprise like usual in every draft, Fremantle will choose a player with massive upside here, queries have been put over Rich's attitude, injury problems and speed. Hill will do great in the open spaces in Subiaco with his speed and agility he really could run the opposition down into the ground. Will complement Palmer and become an A grade outside midfielder that drifts forward.

#4 Port Adelaide Power. [Tyrone Vickery]: Port will be tempted by Rich, but their glaring need for a ruckman will mean they will have to take Vickery who himself is a fine player who could become amongst the AFL's best ruckman Brogan and Lade are both nearly done and Vickery will be an excellent replacement for the ruck duties.

#5 Essendon Bombers. [Daniel Rich]: Essendon will be licking their lips when they see Rich available with Hurley and Yarran also a possibility here but you would think Rich would be far to tempting add him into Essendon's young brigade of onballers suddenly Stanton, Watson, Lonergan, Prismall, Winderlich, Houli and Rich looks extremley good, fast and dangerous will top off Essendon's midfield.

#6 Carlton Blues. [Shaun McKernan]: Carlton will either take Hurley or McKernan with this pick but Jamison, Bower, Thornton and Waite will be suffice for now. McKernan a key position forward/ruckman can provide another option up forward, with only Fevola there it seems one dimensional, with McKernan it suddenly turns much more dangerous and loosens up Fevola a little more.

#7 Brisbane Lions. [Tom Swift]: Black and Power will not be around forever and Brisbane can bolster their young midfielders with Tom Swift. He has major injury issues over him but many people just say it is a case of being unlucky and Brisbane can find themselves a steal here ala Joel Selwood. With Voss also stating Swift being the best 16 year old player he has ever seen will also add to this selection.

#8 Richmond Tigers. [Hamish Hartlett]: They will go best available and Hartlett will really top of their midfield Deledio, Foley, Cotchin, Hartlett looks very dangerous fast and skilled. They will also consider a KPF here but Hartlett will be to good to pass up on.

#9 Kangaroo Roos. [Jackson Tengrove]: They need backmen with Hansen looking more and more like a utility type player Gibson and Firrito in my eyes is not good enough. Tengrove could be a star defender that can do his defensive duties and also provide an attacking option, injury problems have plagued his junior career but Kangaroos will take a gamble which could pay of massivley.

#10 Adelaide Crows. [Lewis Johnston]: Nick Gill as a KPF just does not seem right they will be quick to pounce on Johnston, with Burton also injuring his knee he could not be the same player Johnston an attacking, high leaping and agile forward is just what the Crows need.

#11 Collingwood Magpies. [Steele Sidebottom]: Collingwood will be rapt Sidebottom and Ziebell have slipt but they will go with the more tradition inside midfielder with Sidebottom over the roaming Ziebell. A gaping hole in the midfield has been left at the Pies and they will look to fix this problem ammidetly and Sidebottom who performed amazing in the TAC grand final will be a good way to start.

#12 Sydney Swans. [Micheal Hurley]: Leo Barry is not upto it anymore they will take a risk on the old fasioned key back Micheal Hurley who can play on the monster forwards and with a penetrating kick on the SCG Sydney could find themselves near the 50m arch with his kicks coming off the backline a gamble but Swans must take it.

#13 St.Kilda Saints. [Chris Yarran]: Closing in on premiership glory they will go best available here and go with Yarran hoping he can have a Rioli type of season and really provide another attacking option at their already potent forward line. Questions over Yarran's attitude and work rate just as Rioli and Franklin but look what Hawthorn transformed these two players into, St.Kilda will be hoping to do the same with Yarran.

#14 Western Bulldogs. [Ayce Cordy]: F/S Pick

#15 Geelong Cats. [Jack Ziebell]: Going best available and will probably play him up forward in a O'Keefe type role and try fix some of Geelong forward woes and if Hawkins makes the grade with Ziebell in their to it can suddenly turn questionable into a powerhouse forward line, Ziebell can also rotate through the midfield with Chapman, Ablett, Bartel ect who can also play forward.

#16 Hawthorn Hawks. [Phil Davis]: With Trent Croad's injury in the grand final and possibly missing some of next year Hawthorn must take a key defender, enter Phil Davis athletic key defender, very undderated and can become a very serviceable player for Hawthorn

Hope you guys enjoyed it, please feel free to tear it up :thumbsu:

Hopefully Adelaide dont draft Johnston. Hopefully Hamish or trengove slide to 10.

Whats wrong with Johnston? From what I have seen he looks like a very good forward who can take a good contested mark, fast, agile could become Adelaide's main attacking threat once he develops. Surley you don't think Gill could be in your next premiership team? Burton will be gone by then and Walker ain't no 100% shot either but with Walker and Johnston the chances are at least one of them makes the grade as a very good key position forward.

A few different selections there which is probably the way it will go with this draft reportedly being one of the strongest there has been!

Although Ziebell is the type of player we have in droves (ie Corey, Bartel, Selwood) I would love to see him in the blue and white. Think it is very unlikely that he would fall this far.

The one I find interesting is Hurley. I can definitely see him sliding, particularly if both Essendon and Carlton choose others.

One McKernan was hard enough for this little blue duck to take.
Quoted for Vic Crow.

Even the AFL prospectus called Trengove Trengrove. :D

If we pass up Ziebell the guns coming out

But overall good effort, would be interested to see your 2nd and 3rd rounds

I honestly cannot see Ziebell nearly dropping out of the first round. I would be thrilled with Rich at Essendon.

bit of a different 1 there
not entirely sold on Johnston, don't really know what it is, just something about him
would rather him over McKernan though
I like the look of Sidebottom and Ziebell, so even though we are said to be going for KPP in this draft, i'd be a little disappointed if we passed up both of these for someone other than Trengove
Interesting you have Hurley sliding as well
would be happier if we took him over Johnston aswell
A backline of Bock, Rutten and Hurley would be extremely hard to score on

From the footage of Johnston I have seen he looks like a likely type. Do Adelaide really need more midfielders, from memory your young midfielders van Berlo, Knights,
Reilly and co have all good potential throw in Thompson and it looks good. Defense shouldn't be an issue Rutten, Bock, Hurley in a backline will expose Adelaide the crumbers will have a field day, Hurley had 3.11secs for 20 metre sprint. Gill is not going to be a premiership player, Burton is injury plagued, Johnston + Walker can be a very potent duo IMO and will give Porplyzia less attention up forward.

great to see a different one. Both Hurley and Zieball out of the top 10!! Wow. Can't see it happening, but given the knocks on Hurley's speed, this is a distinct possibility.

I think Carlton has a bigger hole up forward than down back...but don't know if they'll consider McKernan the answer given they will use Kruezer as CHF.

BlazingDon#9's Final Phantom Draft

BlazingDon #9's Phantom Draft

#1 Melbourne Demons |Jack Watts|: This selection is not as clear cut as everybody thinks. Naitanui will also be considered with this selection. 90% chance Dees will select Watts so it is pretty much a lock, they get arguably the best player in the draft and just so happens to be a key position forward which they lack.

#2 West Coast Eagles |Nicholas Naitanui|: Will definitely pick Naitanui here. They showed that they do not think Seaby is good enough with their desperate attempt to get something for him in trade week. Naitanui will develop nicely playing second string to Cox where he does not have to carry the team but where he can show glimpses and develop like every youngster plays with no big expectations.

#3 Fremantle Dockers |Stephen Hill|: This selection could very well set the tone for the top 10. The Dockers were pretty much settled on picking up Naitanui or Rich but now Hill has came into the equation. A player with massive potential seems like a risk but Fremantle look set to take it and hope they get a big reward. Yarran and Hartlett also outside chances at this selection.

#4 Port Adelaide Power |Hamish Hartlett|: Port will have a tough selection here Hartlett, Vickery or Rich all being considered. I think they will be tempted by Hartlett and Rich over Vickery even though he his what they really need. But I think the local boy in Hartlett will get the nod who is an extremley classy midfielder who can play inside and outside.

#5 Essendon Bombers |Daniel Rich|: Essendon will be doing backflips when they see Rich available. Make no mistake if Rich is available Essendon won't think twice about it. Rich could really top of Essendon's midfield. If Rich is not available here they will be looking at Hurley and Sidebottom.

#6 Carlton Blues |Chris Yarran|: Yarran will be to tempting for the Blues to pass up hoping he can have a Cyril like impact in 2009. They will heavily consider Hurley here too. But Yarran gets the nod for me.

#7 Brisbane Lions |Jack Ziebell|: Brisbane will go for the best available policy here and snap up a Voss clone. Will be part of the new generation Brisbane onball brigade. Swift also a big chance at #7 would not be surprised one bit if the Lions chose him over Ziebell.

#8 Richmond Tigers |Tyrone Vickery|: The Tigers will be rapt that Vickery is available at pick 8 and is just what they need a ruckman who can take the torch from Simmonds once he retires. Tigers will also be considering Key position forwards McKernan and Johnston at this pick.

#9 Kangaroo Roos |Steele Sidebottom|: The Kangaroos midfield has gone stale and they need some youth and class in there Sidebottom will provide exactly that. Knows how to play in the big games too eg. TAC CUP Grannie 10 goals. Hurley will also be considered here.

#10 Adelaide Crows |Lewis Johnston|: Adelaide will do the same as Port and go for the local boy in key position forward Johnston. Adelaide need some forwards to take the pressure off Porplyzia who is not a key forward. Johnston seems like a perfect fit for the Crows.

_

There you have it my top 10 would of done top 16 but 10.30pm..ugh hahaha. Hopefully my final stab is right and I can have the bragging rights of calling myself a draft genuis :p
