Has anyone else noticed the lack of "likes" being given out at the moment? So many good posts over the last few pages without any likes at all...

Says to me, everyone is grumpy, becoming impatient. Not satisfied with talk anymore. Needing results...

Nice cast. Reckon you'll get a few nibbles.

As mentioned a few weeks ago, Fyfe is the big fish we are after. We are waiting on Freo to respond & the door has not been closed shut on it just yet. We were hoping we could get him next year via FA, but Freo would likely match any offer. Now we have 2 first rounders, Freo are just considering if that satisfies or not. My gut feel is that it won't happen, but it's also a real possibility.

Thanks MS3.

So Fyfe himself has agreed to come to Carlton?

Also, are we just now haggling over the price? Or are Freo still contemplating whether to trade Fyfe at all.

EDIT: Also do you mean the 2 1'st rounders we get for Gibbs? Or pick 5 and 13.

Says to me people are struggling to keep up with the volume of posts, nothing more.

I for one would welcome a midfield of Thighfe, Krips, Merfee and Kerrknow

It's interesting the Fyfe 2017 vs Fyfe 2018 debate. Obviously there are the issues of, if we can get him now or wait and SEE if we can get him next year is a big debate but the one i want to bring up is the "for free" vs "trading picks part"

What those in the "for free" boat don't realise, I think, is that if we wait for Fyfe to be a free agent next year, not only do we have to hope he still wants to come here. But we have to put in an offer so big as to scare Freo away from matching or we'd have to trade picks anyway. Plus we'd have to outbid other clubs.

Say we end up offering Ffyfe 1.1million over four years as a free agent. We get him for "FREE" right? What if it's not right though. Looking at Sydney, and how Buddy Franklin's huge salary is hemorrhaging their salary cap. Players like Tom Mitchell are walking out and likely so. If they weren't such a strong club pre Buddy Franklin i think you'd have a lot of the Kennedy's, Parkers and Hannebery's walking out as well.

So the argument is, we can have Fyfe and two first round picks playing for us in 2018. Or we can have Fyfe and two less first round picks in 2017. What if our pick leaves the club in 2019 because we've paid Fyfe over the top to get him across. Signing him now and paying him less, like 800k a season, may be better in the long term

I think there are clearly two sides to this debate and one is not the clear cut answer.
Based on this (if true):
Given there's plenty of water to go under the bridge, it's not worth going into the specifics but I think everyone will be happy at the end of the trade period. The gist of it is that we keep Pick 5, our big trades out will return picks & not players (as alluded to by EP), and we will be in a strong position for 2017 (picks + cap space).
I would say that Fyfe is off the table for this year. Can't see us getting him without #5 being used.
But agree with everything you said.

EDIT: and then I read MS3's post :drunk:
