Wasn’t there a suggestion on this board earlier in the year that Weitering had a bad shoulder that requires surgery, but the club thought they could nurse him through the season?

Maybe that wasn’t the right move. Looks injured to me. Reckon we’ll see him get the shoulder looked at post season and he should come back a lot better for it.

Honestly, why would Lloyd come to us? It's extremely unlikely. I like your optimism but at some point you have to be realistic.
$$$

At some point, a club can offer a loong term contract, on a highly significant amount of coin, that pretty much anyone'd be interested.

It's what you have to do, unless there's a bad egg somewhere else that will sharpen up for another chance.

If the rumor is trade pick 1 for a player and pick 2 then ask for Ainsworth. The kid will be a player and we need more X factor in the forward line.

As for Brodie, he is not what we need. Too one paced. Put him next to Kennedy and Cripps is not smart. We need pace in our mid field and half back line. Have we not been paying attention to the last two premiers. Speed kills. We need players that can break away from the contest and also spread at pace. Also there is a reason why Brodie dropped from being number 1 prospect most of the year in his draft year.

Fair points.

I didn't know his contract status. He would be a very good replacement for Simpson. Also frees up one of Williamson/Doc to play up field. Would be a nice piece.

Is he a UFA?

Excuse the intrusion but just passing on some info I have heard from someone I know who is close with the Darcy Moore camp.

Darcy Moore is all but gone to the Swans.
Collingwood are desperate for some help in the backline.
Carlton are interested in Jake Lloyd.
Collingwood are not interested in adding any current Sydney players apart for ones that Sydney have deemed untouchable.
Carlton might get involved to please Collingwoods needs.

Didn't hear any specific names but you would think Wietering, Jones or Plowman.

I am usually a reader and not a poster but this is some pretty good info I have been told.

Doubt that very much

Out of contract at the end of the year.

Frees up Willo; to this point, Doc's been a substandard midfielder, where he's an exceptional rebounding defender/interceptor.

Will keep in mind, doesn't sound completely off the wall since parts of what you said has been discussed previously.

With midfield pressure, there will be poorer delivery into our defensive 50. This is where Weitering and Marchbank will shine as they read the play well. The one on one contests will lessen as Doc will come across like Hodge does, and pinpointing delivery to a lead won't be as accurate.

Yes, that's right, just like Jabba said to which I agreed with him.

Again, though, it doesn't address key areas of concern with Weitering's game that some of us have which hasn't got anything to do with our midfield.

He will still be involved with 1v1 contests and will therefore need to improve that part of his game. Now, natural progression suggests he will, but not if he doesn't lift his intensity and aggression to the contest.

The ball watching is also a concern I have.

Moore to sydney... lloyd to carlton... jones to collingwood i would do in a heartbeat

I'm not surprised Weitering struggled against Westhoff - a 200cm, 95 kg running machine that has had 12 or 14 pre-seasons to build core strength and 240 games to develop the skills, experience an nous to outsmart and outbody a 20 year old under fire in a backline devoid of experience and bombarded with 60-70 inside 50s a game. We all expect too much of the kid and fail to acknowledge the difficulty of being a defender in our team.

Weitering has plenty to learn in one-on-one defending but that will improve with experience and as he builds strength. He has the skills of an elite rebounding defender and as he grows and the team improves he'll become a beauty.

Weitering is shorter than Westhoff and still weighs more than him. Westhoff generally gets the better of his opponents by like you said, using his running ability to lead ahead of them. But when they're both standing there in a 1v1, I was expect JW to be able to do a bit more than he did. Instead he gave away obvious frees.

Your post said, and Im paraphrasing here, our KPP will be the envy of the other teams with a better midfield. I disagree completely. I think most of our KPP, are massively over rated at this stage, average, or simply not good enough. I rate two of them as players. Charlie and Marchbank, who cant stay on the field. The rest Im all a bit meh! about right now.

De konig has done everything right
Kerr has a future
Mackay and Marchbank and Macreadie have performed when fit/selected
Weitering is a bust.
So I would say unproven but generally tracking in the right direction. You are dreaming if you expect developed 21 year old KPPs. If we surface with only Charlie marchbank and one of De Knonig, Mackay or Kerr....it is a pass. We've only invested 2 KPD draft picks and I can accept recruiting another 2 to accompany marchbank

Brodie’s kicking needs improvement, lot of hack kicks forward at TAC Cup level.

May not be the right fit around Cripps and Kennedy but an argument could be put forward that he may end up better than Kennedy.

Despite lacking class, Brodie's grunt, ball/contest-winning and straight line speed would be a good fit for our mostly undersized midfield.

We need to open up space with some bulls for Fisher, O'Brien and SPS.
