So exactly what type of player are we getting for Lukocious? A 25 soon to be 26 year old all rounder? Doesn't really impact the scoreboard either. Not saying he is NOT good … just saying he ain't a star either. Averages 76% this year TOG plays a lot less when the full midfield is in …. We will need him to play closer to 90% with our midfield. Averages this year at 4.4 total clearances per game (with elevated stoppage time, due to injuries).

First things first.

I don't actually want to trade pick one for Shiel, nor do I think it'd be the direction we'd go towards anyway; it'd irresponsible in the extreme, given our attitude towards the draft as this rebuild has progressed coupled with SOS's proclivity in weaving different picks together to find what the other side is after without breaking the bank.

As for not being a star, eh. Like I said, while he doesn't hit the scoreboard himself, he does tend towards ensuring others do. All I was proving before was what I said; that he's prolific at getting the ball.

What are we buying if we do? A chop out for Crippa on rotations?? Ed produces far better numbers. Not saying he won't contribute. But is it worth the punt right now V next year for a free hit?

Not sold at all.

We're buying his kicks inside forward 50, something we desperately struggle with.

There's a reason I've not gotten too involved with this particular argument, so I won't go on much past this point, but the degree to which he'd improve how we move the ball would be amazing to see.

That was specifically at his contested ball … please don't cherry pick a post apart..... and yes Ed has far superior contested play.

Also you need to put his games in perspective, when GWS field their A grade side he gets the other teams third best mid ……

If you really want to test the important stats; how do the two compare for metres gained, and I50 entries?

Yep, he’s one player u would be seriously cautious paying a lot for. On ability he’s worth it, I really rate him and he is only getting better.
One knock to the head and that could be career over, it wouldn’t even take much, a pretty innocuous head clash or glancing blow could be all it takes. Given how he plays, it’s almost a “when” not an “if” it happens.

At his best he can seriously play.

My ideal scenario is to trade down with GC.

Pick 1 for pick 3 and 16.

Target Bailey Smith at 3.
Take a medium forward/tall forward with 16 (Taylor likely won't make it here, perhaps Bailey Williams).
Trade 24 or 27 for a tall midfielder (Brodie/Scrimshaw).
Acquire Shiel with the 2019 1st as the centrepiece.

None of this will happen, but we'd come out of this year in a strong position.

Thats a fairly realistic scenario IMO.

Agree and so it shouldn't, Jack Lukosius will be a very special player, as will Rankine , these lads will be center stage come draft week and for many years to come.

Kelly would be a tougher get than Shiel given the rumours going around. But you're right, Kelly would be an amazing get for us.

Pick 1 doesn't guarantee a gun.. Is shiel better than Murphy Gibbs or kreuzer when they were the same age? He's better than 2 of them...

Personally I wouldn't trade pick 1 for shiel, but if the deal weighs heavily in our favor then I'll listen..
