For starters boek is better than all those playersWho did Silvagni let go of to bring in Shaw/Mullett/O'Shea? What did the latter group cost?

In the current make it up as you go environment, anything is possible. They will not grant a priority pick at the top of the draft. It would be at the end of the first round.
Surely they can juggle more than one task at a time.Sure you can make that argument- but I agree with the Club to the extent that fixing other things is more important than concentrating on asking for a priority pick.
Seems decision was more political rather than an issue with filling in the application form.Surely they can juggle more than one task at a time.

Incorrect. In order to obtain a priority pick the club must request one. Brisbane did it last year and got one.
I am personally happy he is no longer around...the anxiety within that would come about when he was mentioned was bad enough - let alone his attitude. For starters boek is better than all those players

He was in no way a guaranteed failure though? Showed a lot towards the end of the yearIf the equation is delisting a guaranteed failure (Boek) to make room for a probable failure (Mullett) then SOS did the right thing. If Blaine's attitude is as poor as some suggest it's a no brainer.
I'm fairly confident the AFL will not just grant a priority pick to us.
Which current players are you referring to?I am personally happy he is no longer around...the anxiety within that would come about when he was mentioned was bad enough - let alone his attitude.
We still hold a number of players that creep me like that, I am personally hoping that they are gone at the end of this season for my own piece of mind - and the playing groups.
He was in no way a guaranteed failure though? Showed a lot towards the end of the year
Silvagni also thought Shaw and O’Shea were good pick ups so I wouldn’t hang my hat on that.Silvagni and 17 other list managers disagree

That's what some players do. Nothing through their contract then in the last 3 or 4 produce. He was no good. No point living in the past. It's the correct decision to let him go.He was in no way a guaranteed failure though? Showed a lot towards the end of the year
If Carlton were getting smashed every week I'd be worried. The fact that they can match it with the best sides (undermanned as they are) suggests they have the potential to be a very good side.
However, it does seem they struggle with expectation. Every time they come up against a side they think they can beat their effort drops off 10% and they get smashed. When you look at their performances against the best sides it's actually pretty good.
We all know that young sides can be inconsistent. There's no need to panic imo.
Expectation based on what though... we’ve done nothing to justify any expectation whatsoever...If Carlton were getting smashed every week I'd be worried. The fact that they can match it with the best sides (undermanned as they are) suggests they have the potential to be a very good side.

see post #1744Out of curiousity, do you have an authority for this?
Where is this stated to be the case?
To be absolutely fair, not all recruiters get it right, not all recruiters can tell whether players will make the jump from junior/state league to AFL... Matthew Wright admittedly down on input at the moment had been a fantastic pick up for nothing, Kerridge was a good pick up (correct me if I’m wrong but I think for nothing). These guys aren’t best 22 and aren’t future role players but I tell you what they make our VFL team a lot better and gives some of the young kids a chance to improve. The club has publicly stated they have recruited mature players to help fill gaps in certain age brackets of the team.. they never said they were going to be messiahs but blokes like Mullet, O’Shea aren’t best 22 but they give our VFL team a good boost... which allows an opportunity for the young kids to develop in a side that can get their hands on the footy and compete..Silvagni also thought Shaw and O’Shea were good pick ups so I wouldn’t hang my hat on that.

Probably wrong use of words imoSounds like tanking...
Things will turn. Not this year and we will again finish low next year. Its no quick fix. 7 years peoplei seen that sneaky edit
Look I agree that players always seem to have good games around contract time but I just think he showed more than a lot of our current players. Of course talent can only get you so far and hard work is more important. It seems like he lacked the work ethic so I can understand why someone like graham got a spot over him. I just think it would have been worth persisting with him for one more year. He never showed as much as he did in his last 3 games.
Anyway not point talking about it. Like you said it’s in the past and we have no control over it. Just need to look to the future and hope things can turn around quickly.
