What I heard is that they asked him to keep training and if things fell into place there was a decent chance he’d be rookied. Well they didn’t and he wasn’t. As for “promising” to pick him up, not so sure about that. Still to keep him swinging until the last hour is poor form.

I can only go by what the family told me but i have no reason to doubt them as they were telling me this when Blaine got the news he was delisted . They are certainly not liars. Told me a lot of interesting things but it seems anyone from the Malthouse days was doomed as soon as SOS rolled up.

As i said before mate they promised to pick him up which is why he still trained at the club after being de-listed . An hour before the end of the draft they rang him and told him they will not be taking him. Had no opportunity to look elsewhere as was under the impression he was wanted.

Probably not a bad assessment by SOS. Being recruited by Rogers was certainly not something you wanted to be defined by. Which makes the effort of Crippa to rid himself of that stench all the more admirable.

Is that the same Boekhorst that posted on instagram from a music festival in Perth on a sunday when pre-season started first thing monday morning?

Who honestly cares? If he rocked up on training and wasn’t hung over or anything, does it matter? He had one more day to enjoy himself before a long year. Is he not entitled to do what he wants on his day off?

I know a lot of us are feeling desperate right now, but lamenting the loss of Boekhorst and making excuses for the guy blowing his last chance by acting like a child and not a professional footballer is not the way to feel better.

It wasnt a talent issue. Feels to me that he got caught on the outer with a few (probably senior) players.

The hardest part about it is that, for the previous two years, the losses and inconsistency wasn't an issue. I certainly didn't think we'd be rocketing up the ladder this season, but we don't seem to be playing with the youthful energy that I'd come to look forward to each week.

Hang in there BB. Young sides will always be inconsistent and even more so when they don't have an established senior core around them. Realistically after losing Phillips our structure was totally thrown out and our 2nd and 3rd qts were totally shite. They lifted in the last after losing two more players and this shows they have some heart.

How much of Lloyd's good work is ability, and how much is system?

Is he the kind of leader who can come across and help our backline function, or will he be regularly exposed because the things he can do at Sydney get punished when he tries to do them with us?

I want him, for sure...but I'm uncertain about whether his form can transcend clubs.

Ahhh....someone gets it. So much bs on here about this player, that player improving us. Most of those mentioned are simply part of a better system, playing their small role and doing it well BECAUSE they are surrounded by others doing the same. It’s easy to draft/recruit a player here or there to fit into a system - much more difficult to build the sytem as you go.

If SOS hated him why would he delist him then offer him the the chance to do preseason with the promise of being picked back up?

They made similar promises to Sumner but after more thought, changed their minds on that too. They then tried to convince him to play for NB with a loose promise he would get picked up.

It seems like club people tell players what they want to hear, rather than being upfront and honest.

Cripps, Docherty, Thomas, Liam Jones - all came in during the Malthouse days, all play regularly, and none seem to be doomed. If Boek was any good he would still play for us. It’s not because he was recruited during the Malthouse days.

Are you serious? You think taking the red-eye flight from Perth is optimal preparation for pre-season?
For anyone, let alone somebody who doesn't have a contract?

The guy was talented and would certainly be better than a few at the bottom of our list at present.

However, he was pretty damn soft and I'm not sure if he was the kind of character we wanted around the group.

He was soft, but that doesn’t reflect his character. That’s instinct. Going hard at the footy can be taught. Cotchin, Murphy and even Gibbs developed that later on in their careers.

Actually every time he was dropped over the years he always went back to the VFL and busted his gut which is more than i can say for others we have now. He always busted his gut and when he finally got given an opportunity due to mass injuries he proved himself. So if saying contract year satisfies your dislike for him then so be it. There is always 2 sides to every story.

Busted his gut game day yes, it was always known that it was on the training track he left a lot to be desired on the field. He was drafted mature age, already had his second chance, was pea hearted in training. We didn't waste his talent by delisting, he did by not grabbing the opportunity by the horns. Sos made the right call.

If this is true it is poor form by the club but this shouldn’t spell the end for him if he was to become a long term afl player particularly with his pace
