Please excuse my ignorance, but is this an actual rumour? I know some here have been calling for Barker's head, based on a perception that he's not performing, but I've not seen anything rumoured to suggest that it's a real possibility.
We would know by now. So i would say no.

Assistant coaches need to be told by 1st August if they are being let go. Thus the news about Ratten being moved on coming in the last day or two.

An interesting last few pages of reading. A contracted Dylan Shiel, a contracted Mitch McGovern and a contracted Daniel Hannebery all coming to Carlton?????. Will be interesting to see how SOS pays for all this if true. Pick 1 has to be on the table I would suggest.
I wonder if we can give brown paper bags to opposition list managers. Surely that doesnt affect our salary cap.

Well he wants to be in melb and would know bolts from his time at hawthorn...plus Cam Bruce.

Is a newbie in terms of coaching, so joining a young team from the beginning and being part of the rise could appeal...we may also give him more responsibility.

Sam would be good as a midfield coach. He was elite as a mid at the hawks, and this was not dependent on any elite physical ability, more, his ability to setup play with elite disposal. I think Ratten was the driving force behind the hawks midfield success, and Sam was in the thick of things there and would have learnt a lot from Rats. With our existing young mids coming through and reportedly a big fish FA (Gaff or Shiel) plus 2-3 good young mids from the draft, Mitchell would be ideal to help mould them into a high end cohesive midfield

It makes sense...pair that with the John Barker being let go rumour and there's the position. I personally think it's a good fit for Mitchell and would be a great acquisition for us.
Agreed.

Mitchell was always one of my favourites to watch play and I'm just as interested in chasing his contract as I am any player.

The dude's CV reads as good as Judd's

  • x4 premierships (x1 as Captain) (also won a VFL premiership + Liston Trophy before being drafted)
  • x1 Brownlow
  • x5 Best & Fairest
  • x3 All Australian
  • 2003 Rising Star

It sounds like Sheil and Hannebery would be defined as Salary Cap Dumps so we’d be doing those clubs a favour by taking those contracts off their hands therefore we’d be paying unders, Pick 1 wouldn’t (and shouldn’t) come into play.

I'll take Shiel, McGovern and Wallis and hopefully a young fella in the top 20.

Ain't gonna spitball how it gets done as there are too many permutations (plus it'll make my head hurt). If it actually comes about I'll trust in SOS to do it with the best intentions front of mind.

Edit: And Mitchell as an assistant.

Expecting Carlton to announce Sam Mitchell as assistant coach within days of the West Coast season coming to an end.

Would then anticipate Carlton moving a pick exchange with West Coast. Something along the lines of the Geelong third to West Coast for the Eagles third (Hawthorn's original) with a swap of West Coast's 5th round pick for our sixth if Hawks pick ends up being a pick or two behind Geelong).

A pick exchange, why?

On Sam Mitchell - are you hearing the same?

Come on guys let's not claim the tigers changed the game, they won last year on the back of no injuries (repeating this year), hitting form at the right time, playing the equivalent of home finals even though they hadn't earnt the right to (should have played the cats in Geelong) and having the best team on the day choke.
The term charmed run applies. There success this year is due to the overwhelming confidence that being the reigning premier provides. Success breeds success.
They won because of their culture

It's great that this happened right after we traded/drafted a bunch of key defenders and key forwards!

Watch them scurry for talls, both back's and Forward's as the rule changes come into effect.
I reckon Sos has put us in a great position, When these rule changes take effect.
