If we are trading 5, I would want Marchbank, Steele and a combination of WHE, McKenna, Pickett or Ahern. If Stewart was dominating the NEAFL, I would want him but he is not. So GWS can keep him.

I don't know how you define dominating but I'm pretty certain he kicked around the 50 goals mark this season. Better than any of our forwards this season.

I know the potential Gibbs deal seems overs for you.
However, I have been particularly impressed by SOS's list management for Carlton. Hes using his link with GWS beautifully and building you guys a deep, young list. From the GWS mob you are getting and your current list you will unearth some genuine A graders who will all come into their prime together (see Bulldogs for template).

True enough but the big difference is that last year it was done with a pick in the 20's. This year it could possibly be for pick 5.
You also have to consider that some of the possible players (Marchbank, Pickett) are injury prone at an early stage of their careers.
It may be a great choice in hindsight but it could also be another disaster.

Definitely a dream scenario, but if GWS are certain they can nab pick 1 by on trading 5 and 7 to Essendon..who knows!
Again, the AFL would block that trade on points alone, as well as any Veale deal involving out of contract Dons players.

Sounds like we're going to get #7 back.

I see where you're coming from, and looking at what we accepted for Menzel last year it seems fair.

But Gibbs isn't Menzel. If we're going to trade one of our top-line mids, who has three year to run on his contract, it needs to be a good deal in and of itself. We can't just go accepting unders because we can use those picks in other trades. Gibbs is worth a good first round pick and then some, so accepting less than that would be remarkably irresponsible.

I did say 2-3 first round picks, I've said where 2 are coming from. Trade period is a funny time, never know what can happen.
This time last year, we weren't anticipating Menzel to leave. SOS could pull something out of his hat.

I hope he does.
As for Menzel, I wouldn't have put money on it but at the same time it didn't surprise me either.
It was obvious through the season that he wasn't committed.
IMHO, he's still dining out on his junior achievements. He needs to have a serious discussion with his brother about the commitment required at AFL level.

Perhaps we could get a list of Pick 6's and 15's as well?
Pick 6's
2015 Aaron Francis
2014 Caleb Marchbank
2013 Matthew Scharenberg
2012 Jack Macrae
2011 Chad Wingard

Pick 15's
2015 Daniel Rioli
2014 Jarrod Garlett
2013 Zak Jones
2012 Jackson Thurlow
2011 Brandon Ellis

If you're right about the capped points differential, it may be that GWS could still offer up 5, 15 and a player for pick 1 and change.

Pick 7 probably gets Scrimshaw or Ainsworth.
Pick 5 is a fair chance at Brodie.

We know Essendon were keen to get Brodie playing with their reserves at the end of the season, so Pick 5 might be the catalyst needed to get a deal over the line.

EDIT: Hoping we can get 7 back as well, would suit us quite well, but I'm not sure it'll be the case. More likely 5 and 23 for players plus 15 and/or 16.

Yeah I understand it from GWS & Essendon's perspective if GWS want #1 (and presumably Essendon want the same use of it as GWS), just interested to see what we give up and what we get back.

More than happy with 7, Marchbank, Stewart, Corr and Pickett for 5 & 23, for example.

As for the points differential, can't remember if it was up to 200 or 300. 5 & 15 is a 10 point differential though, and seems very likely from GWS' point of view.

He is not worth x2 first rounders

Not. the. point.

Must be our starting position. He's contracted, and they are desperate. They've approached us / him from what we understand, not the other way around.

Their starting point might be 1st and Lyons, which is a third or fourth equivalent based on their $ offer to him. Not good enough.

Their second next year will likely be around 35; 13 and 35 for Gibbs not good enough.

So that leaves us with two 1st (likely 13 and 15 or so next year). Or 13 and a good young player (McGovern, Milera etc).

How do you what $ they have offered him?

If BG was 5 years younger he would be worth x2 first rounders.

Maybe we are planning to use 13 to get something else, valuable?

ANyhow, understand your point about starting high

The pick 5 trade doesn't anger me because I am confident we will get plenty in return. It's this disgusting Gibbs trade that is depressing me. As FBI suggested, we hold ALL the cards. If they are desperate for him then make them pay!

I don't wanna hear about any positives from the Menzel trade because ultimately, Kerridge will not be a long term player for us and we could've got the GWS 4 with the Cuningham pick. I will be seriously pissed if we offload Gibbs for peanuts, people over value draft picks so much it isn't funny.
