A lot of detail in this one. It's not a negative rumour and has plenty of plausible thinking in it. It is also not delivered in a take it to the bank or superior fashion.

This thread exists for the 'what if it's true' discussion.

Agree ODN. The initial post to me though is written in the context of percieved/known club's intentions (inside knowledge), not the poster's belief. That to me, places it in the realm of take it to the bank. The subsequent rebuttals reduce the authenticity in the OP also. But I agree, it's a what if thread, and the masses will be divided, similar to the same-sex marriage argument/ballot.

Would I love it to happen, sure would, do I believe it'll happen or is true, sure don't. That's my rumour discussion thoughts.

I have heard and read a number of rumours but they have no supportable basis and no inside knowledge. I don't choose to clog the threads though.

If so I am not for it.

Prefer to keep Pick 3, trade Gibbs for 10 & 38, get Kennedy cheap and bring in Rockliff for nothing. Get Kelly in 2 years

I'm not having a go at any rumours, whatever eventuates will eventuate.

However, I really hope we are not after a KP forward as underwhelming as Schache is especially considering the young talent we have on our list already (and what is on the horizon)

Would argue the saints are desperate for a key forward. Bruce got dropped this year and Mccartin is a long way off. I could definitely see them identifying that as their biggest need. Theyll back the likes of billings Ross Gresham and newnes to take another step forward.

I just don't see big forwards as a real issue in modern football. You only need 1 or 2 maximum. It's a midfield game now and all over the ground. McMartin I still rate and Bruce, Membrey are handy

RE the Rocky thing isn't draft tampering. We can easily argue our ball winning depth is a major issue and we need to ensure Cripps he will get the help he needs esp with Gibbs leaving. Rocky is a proven tough ball winner.

Price is set by the buyers needs, simple as that.

Our midfield doesn't have many kids to protect. Murphy, Ed, Cripps, Kreuzer, Gibbs(if he stays) are all strong bodied and apart from Cripps, mostly older players.

If anything, he'd be a bad influence to them.

It is plausible from a fair trade point of view but players are not chess pieces and it is somewhat implausible to think our strategy to secure Kelly relies on Rockliff and Schache agreeing to trade.

GWS don't need pick #1 to agree to trade Kelly, the ball is entirely in his court. He'll get to whoever he chooses.

Oh without a doubt I 100% concur, however .... if a gift horse should appear but the timing is not "quite" right ......... you would still do the trade.

Re Rocky: even if it was in the grey area of tampering it wouldn't matter as the afl love these contrived outcomes to give the lions another top end pick. The bigger question would be.. is rocky willing to come to us?

Yeah Bolts has made a big point about having a "process" for captain. I think it is absolutely time for Murph to pass the baton, but they will follow the process and have everybody's input for the decision.

I believe the players vote on the leadership group, I highly doubt they have the overriding say on hierarchy in that leadership group.

Kelly is worth pick 1 and Rocky is nearly equal to gibbs. Then to get Schache, Kennedy and scully fotlr really nothing. Its a good/SOS deal imo

One thing with schache is we were already to tall when we brought McKay in that we had to play Silvagni back, what happens when BSOS comes? Curnow, McKay, Silvagni, Schache, BSOS

People can believe what they want to believe but I can assure you this is not something I have dreamt up for fun. Nor am I a previous poster. As I said, each of the various elements are being discussed with clubs right now. Because each trade is basically a win/win for all involved (i.e. we aren't trying to screw anyone) it doesn't need to be a big secret.

This is how SOS operates - he does what he calls a SWOT analysis of each team and looks at where he can match pieces to maximise benefit for us (same as what he did with the Hawks or why he moved Tuohy on to get the GWS guys).

Schache I have never seen play a game so I have zero idea as to his value. But I recall Josh Kennedy looked pretty ordinary after two years and look how he turned out...

If this all eventuates (and as I said it is not guaranteed - 70/30 chance) - will those posters that have hurled abuse apologise and take a break from the forum? Or will they just carry on to abuse the next person? Haven't been here long enough to know if this is the standard culture or if I am just lucky!

If we lose Gibbs, it's clear the club want a ready-made mature replacement. We saw this last year. Rockliff fits the bill.

What do we have an excess of? Cap space

Would we spend an extra 600k over 3 years to facilitate a trade in our favour (i.e. use cap space as a commodity)? Of course we would. SOS has done this in 2015 and 16.

I'm not saying it's going to happen but logical analysis says it's a highly plausible scenario.

Hey soapyv how can we get/fit both Shiel + Kelly in the salary cap in 2 years . Get Kelly now frontend Kelly contract then Shiel wont work otherwise .
