It's not about friendship, it's good business.

As much as they're opponents on the field, the off field relationship is a very different dynamic. Look at Essendon - nobody gives them anything when it comes to trading cause they're pricks to deal with. Screwing over GWS by taking Treloar for nothing will burn a really important bridge - and Treloar just isn't a valuable enough commodity to make it worthwhile.

If we were to trade for Patton, then grab Cameron in the PSD - different story. That's our forward line sorted.

In the business world, if you go screwing over your trading partners, customers or wholesalers, you only make things worse for yourself for a little bit of short term gain.
I understand your logic, and agree to a point. What I am saying is that if we were able to secure Treleor it would not be via trade unless we give our #1 (2) pick. I think it would be safe to assume you and I agree you wouldn't be trading that pick away.

Damn straight :D

But I'd rather miss out on Treloar and retain a good relationship with a team that's been hoarding first round picks for the last 4 years and stocking up on KPP's.

Judd didn't win us a flag, what difference will Treloar make given the state of our list?

Plenty.

Young mid who immediately bolsters our midfield and gives Cripps and Murphy some support. He will be around for another 10 years.

No idea how we'd land him though.

One man can't do it alone. Judd's shoulders were rat shit for carrying us for too long. He did a reasonable job in trying in my opinion. Its a shame others didn't follow his lead.

One thing if you're a player at an opposition club is that if you come to Carlton, you're a fair chance to get significant game time. After all, if you can't compete with and beat the Tutts and Joneses of the world, you're probably worse than you thought you were.

The idea of getting Trelor ,who's one of the best mids around, for Henderson is a bit rich and favors us quite a lot but stranger things have happened. Would love him at Carlton, perfect fit. Can probably afford a big salary or two, we still have to meet our minimum TPP and we're bound to be shedding quite a few big earners. I wonder if Yarran to Sydney has stronger grounds with Shaw retiring. Would still like to push for a little more than Geelong's first pick with Henderson but that's still a reasonable get depending on the draft's depth. Bell is a Queenslander and you'd thing may go back up that way, could be involved in a trade for Aish. Looks like we're getting the big shake up we need.

Best part about all this is last rebuild we had no one to trade, draft sanctions, no young talent and were fighting for the club's very existence. Completely different scenario this time which is why I'm pretty excited about our future and the possibility of trading heavily and taking a lot of young talent via trades and early picks.

Reading the latest in the HUN: Hendo open to offers from clubs besides Geelong; Ando says he is worth a first rounder and we will push for steak knives as well.

Barker says we were going to drop him anyway and dont want to risk him getting injured before the trade period or take the spot of someone who wants to play for the club. Sound thinking for mine.

Was pondering this myself Batty, and especially if Jetta goes. Still think we could get Mitchell for Yarran in a swap. Mitchell is a good inside mid but surplus to the Swans and they will need speed and outside run.

With the Swans taking on the AFL regarding trade restrictions I would say they will be watered down somewhat and it will become feasible.

Especially now Malthouse is gone.

Stevo: "Mick, you've had Patrick Dangerfield playing in the VFL for the last month. There must be a reason for that decision."
Mick: "Was there a question in amongst all that drivel? Look, Paddy's a fine player, but he needs to develop his defensive game if he wants to get a call up."

Mitchell is not surplus to the Swans. He's now best 22. With the Swans midfielders being on the older side, he'll continue to get plenty of gametime.

I mentioned it elsewhere but last year was our chance to get him. Now, unless he wants back to Melbourne, we're no chance.

Would be very happy swapping Yarran for Mitchell. Addresses a need for both clubs. Not sure we can get it done with the current restrictions on who the Swans can get.

Weren't there some mids coming cheap via their academy this year likely to squeeze him out?

Just remember reading that somewhere.

Would love a Yarran/Mitchell swap but think a swap of picks say 20<>33 would get it done, but would that then be too much on our part?

They won't be squeezing him out for a number of years now, if at all.

Fair enough. Was hoping for a reverse of the Josh Kennedy (the Hawks one!) situation. Swans never seem to lose only gain good players, Mumford excepted.

To be honest, I think a Yarran for Mitchell swap would be a reasonably win/win for both clubs.

Sydney have lost Malceski, Shaw, and most likely Jetta as well in the space of 2 years. They desperately need to find an attacking half-back like Yarran to fill some of that loss. Not to mention their midfield is absolutely loaded with talent and will be added to again with Mills and Dunkley. We desperately need some more midfield class so it seems like a logical trade.

The obvious hurdle is the trade restrictions, which is why I think Sydney are in talks with/threatened legal action against the AFL. I'd say.. watch this space.
