Because in todays game, there is so much player movement with the likes of free agency and disgruntled players that teams just want to get doeals done without using a first round pick. Look at it this way, if Dangerfield leaves, crows will likely recieve a first round componsation pick of around 14-16. So you think a top 15 pick for a player thats played 16 games and averages 10 disposals is equivalent to what the AFL will give crows for losing Dangerfield.

Gotta leave FA out of it entirely.

It's skewed to award better compensation to lower placed clubs, on the basis that they can't afford to lose senior players for well unders.

Dangerfield is worth pick 1 comfortably, or a couple of picks between 6 and 12. Adelaide are in an awkward spot on the compensation model, they'll get well unders because they placed highly on the ladder, but they're far enough from the top few that him leaving will really knock them back.

I've heard from someone apparently in the know from the doggies that they are the club desperate for pick 1... and that they may even be willing to trade Boyd to us so they can take Weitering.

Personally I think it's ridiculous from both sides of the coin and didn't believe for a second either club would actually entertain the idea.
