Ainsworth does frequently go missing, he has his whole career. He was a fringe player at the Suns hence them allowing him to go despite signing a 4 yr deal. He does have potential for better, and I'd like to see him player inside 50 more than HFF, but he's not a big move as it is now.

Hayward can similarly go in and out of games. He actually reminds me of Charlie in that he cam have a dominant 15 minutes kicking 3 goals but be barely sighted outside of that. I think he's better than fringe tbf, hes a decent inclusion.

I'm just looking at them as upgrades on what we currently have (which they are) so will provide more value across the board.

Not interested in heroes just want quality team players who can make good decisions and execute that decision.

GW was correct when he said we don't have enough good players, we don't and that's primarily why we haven't achieved.

The guys coming will improve the list and make us better.

They should have taken the deal for Merrett. They're not winning anything anytime soon, and with an arsenal of first round picks they really could have set themselves up.
Nah, put HFC back in their poaching box. Should have offered up Mackenzie if they were ridgy didge.

Hopefully this puts an end to late trade negotiations and deadline day drama. Knock it off and move on to the next deal, or an early lunch.

Essendon receive pick 11
Carl receive 21,27,30
Would cover Dean at pick 6 and still have 300 points left over
Essendon also dont have many list spots and have pick 5 and 6 already. 3 in the top 11 before bids would look good for there members

North recive pick 9 future 4th
Carlton receive future 1st, 46

43,46,54 would be enough points to cover ison at pick 25.
Something along these lines would be ideal. Also get to death ride north all year. Highly doubt north would be keen though unless we were giving a future 2nd back which we dont have
Why would anyone give up a first next year to get back in this year ? Reckon we will end up having to use one of the firsts this year .

I told my 8 year old this morning that Charlie no longer played for Carlton. Was a little concerned how he would react as Charlie was his favourite player.

He looked up from his cereal and he said Patty Cripps is better.

He then asked me where he is playing, I said Sydney and he just shrugged his shoulders.

Crisis averted. Phew!

you never know just got to hope a team wants a player in this first round. Still some very good players

Given it is being discussed here. I did this earlier today

Time to try the hard work of figuring out bid matching.

Assumptions to smooth the difficulty

No further trades (which are likely).

Bids as per Rookie Me rankings

Ok so

Bid 1 Zeke Uwland @pick 2 (2481)

GC match (2232) with Pick 15 (973), 18(836), 24 (621) = 198 left over which becomes pick 43

Bid 2 Dylan Patterson @pick 4 (1962)

GC Match (1765) with Pick 26 (561) , 27 (533), 34(360) 43 (198) 50 (71) carry 42 points of debt into next year.

Bid 3 Daniel Annable @ pick 5 (1795)

Bris match (1615) with 18 (836), 23 (653), 40 (238) = 111 left over which becomes pick 48

Bid 4 Harry Dean @ 7 (1543)

Carl match (1388) with pick 12 (1140), pick 14 (1024) =775 left over which becomes pick 20

Bid 5 Max King @ 18 (836)

Syd Match (752) with pick 23 ( 653) pick 24 (621) = 521 left over which becomes pick 28

Bid 6 Beau Addinsal @24

GC cannot match

Bid 7 Jack Ison @25 (590)

Carl Match (506) with pick 36 (317) pick 47 (117) = 434 carry 72 points deficit into next year.

The boy has an entire wall of Charlie posters etc to deal with, and an entire shrine dedicated to Jack.

It's going to be expensive to re-model.

Obviously. And if Rosa had been left to do his job they would have. Instead the decision gets attached to the new President's ego and the it unravels from there.

Rosa should quit - they're going to overrule his decision-making - then blame him for it later. They'll destroy his reputation.

We're lucky we've got Wright involved who is one of the AFL's best ever list managers and not an ego-driven amateur.

Yeah feel for poor Matty in that respect. Think in that particular situation it’s fault on both sides. Welsh making a stand early as president and Hawthorn wanting to be like Geelong and get their targets for nothing. The final offer was up there with Geelongs offer for Curnow and the hawks waited til the last few days. Hawks should have got it done they called for it.

Some pretty certain calls in the last 24 hrs of trade week on here...anyone keeping score?

Just looking back through the last couple pages..

Few zeros there

had abit of down time at work today and tried to put a team together that would be playing round 1 against Richmond we have some serious depth in the forward half this year, back half is looking abit meh to me, I think we really need to go hard at a good medium size defender like a Connor idun type from gws

Cowan weitering Haynes
Newman young saad
O hollands hewett florant
Ainsworth mckay Williams
Hayward okeefe cripps

Pitto walsh cerra

Lord cottrel moir carrol Smith

I think Dean will be playing R1. Young wont play unless there are injuries, whatever random guy we find as a DFA/rookie pick late in draft/down the pub will play ahead of Young.

I don't buy that. All large supporter bases like ours are the same.

It's an excuse for mediocrity and fragility.
Exactly.

Yeah Carlton fans are so bad and was such a concern for Charlie that D'Orazio in his attempt to save Charlie, sent and forced 2 of his other clients ("great guys") into the fiery cauldron of high expectations and bad Carlton fans......... please ......give me a spell.

Interesting theme that's come up this week about the Carlton fanbase (that's us, but the way).

Charlie's manager noted it's a very tough club to play for when you're not playing well.

Hayward mentioned in his intro video the passionate fans.

Silvagni and TDK both choosing to go elsewhere (the Saints no less!).

I think reading between the lines, here, we're dead-set lunatics and maybe there's something for us to take on board.
Wondering if players that gave their all felt the same?
You get out what you put in.

Good point. He is privy to any issue Charlie had with Carlton. It would be negligent to send 2 of his other clients there. That tells us the issue wasn't Carlton.

This is HFC (F* them!), especially from ESS.

Tardy offer and a player agent who didn’t embrace where the Bombers were coming from (he dolled out all the points he believed were reason enough to trade but didn’t understand where ESS stood/POV). Good on Welsh for planting his flag. A victory for the contract holders.

The future of our supporter base is in good hands.
Father of the Year award incoming.

Things don't have to be totally black and white and the supporter/crowd stuff is no doubt part of it for Charlie, but that doesn't really matter.

There's no doubt that our crowd and supporter base is an issue. I've been saying it all year but the atmosphere and general tone is feral at times and there is a tendency for us to jump off and pile on players and to focus on the negatives, particularly at the end of their careers (see: Sam Docherty this year, Marc Murphy in his last year). There's also no doubt we are bigger and have had more frustration than most clubs over the journey which feeds into it. Players know this, the media knows it - it's clear. It was particularly bad this year because there was a terrible mismatch between expectations and performance and the club fed into this.

But it is also part of a broad package and the flip side is you get to play in big games on the MCG, in front of 80,000 people, 5-6 times each year. The lights are always on you at Carlton - have even a moderately good year and you'll jump into AA discussion. You'll get a bigger contract and more media and more sponsor opportunities. You get to put your name on the locker with legends of the game, and be part of a club that has 150 years of success and know that whoever turns it around and helps win a flag will be immortal, like Barassi and Jesaulenko and co.

It's all part of the package and every club has their version. Gold Coast means anonymity and nightlife but playing out of a tin shed and having 12,000 spectators. That's not going to appeal to everyone either.

Different players will want the Carlton limelight and others won't, and some will enjoy it for a few years and then want something different late in their career. I certainly don't hold anything against Charlie for that. The feral fans were great fun for 8 years and now if he wants a different experience so be it. I imagine Florent and Haywood coming the other way will rave about how good it is to get big games etc. Consider that Florent has played 186 games in 8 years, and only played in front of 80,000+ fans three times total. His new team mate at half back, Ollie Hollands, has played 16 matches in front of more than 80,000 in 3 years (65 games).

I do think we as supporters can be better at games, and less quick to negativity with the players broadly. Collingwood have turned their crowd and atmosphere into something stifling at their home games and we should be seeking to emulate that because it is winning them games, and that's what we all want, players includes.
