How wonderful it is to have so much depth :)

It will be interseting to see if there will be any changes to the team this week & if so how many changes.

Walker & Fisher impressing in the Bullants & also Grigg overcoming an injury, who gets dropped?

CARLTON may face a selection dilemma next week for its clash with the Brisbane Lions after Andrew Walker and Brad Fisher stood out in a VFL hit-out on the weekend.

Both have had limited pre-seasons owing to injuries and were left out of the Blues' side that beat Richmond by 83 points last Thursday night in round one.

Walker, who has overcome yet another shoulder injury, and Fisher, who has been in the rehab group following a dislocated elbow sustained in December, both played well in the Northern Bullants' practice match against Coburg at Visy Park on the weekend.

"Walker played well in the pre-season but just missed out with so many available in the first couple of rounds," coach David Teague said on Monday.

"Fisher has been a regular senior player the last couple of years and he missed a bit of the pre-season, so he just didn't get a game either.

Teague said the pair would be in contention for senior selection this week, but believed opportunities would remain limited given the Blues' big season-opening win and the fact they escaped the game with no injuries.

"They'll be in the mix. With the team playing so well, I don't know how many changes they'll make," he said.

"Shaun Grigg is also coming back from injury but they could put their hands up along with Joe Anderson and Steven Browne.

"Grigg missed out this week through injury. He was touch and go to play but in the end, the club said to wait another week.

"His pre-season was very good so he could possibly go straight into the seniors."

Selection will be hard i think.

I'm somebody who likes a winning formula and we had that round 1.

I think keeping guys in the 2's won't hurt as it makes them have hunger and when they play seniors.

For mine i would bring in Walker and drop Russell.

Russell although did some ok things, i think he was the player that stood out the least and probably let himself down with missed kicks, harsh but i think Walker gives us more flexability.

Grigg to me isn't automatic, although he adds good run, i think he needs to work on his delivery into the forward line, to many of his kicks are just bomb's into the forward line, he really needs to pinpoint his delivery forward, that is my only issue with Grigg.

Another player who would normally play is Stevens, how many players will ahead of him after this weekend? If we go in unchanged and have another good win makes you wonder how Walker, Grigg,Stevens and Fisher are going to get back in the side?

Isnt depth a wonderful thing.

I think we can afford to be conservative with Grigg and give him a run with the Ants on the weekend before promoting him. Walker on the other hand will gain nothing from another week in the 2s and needs to be promoted. I hate to say it but Walker in and Russell out looks like a good selection based on current form.

Silly comment based on one game of nab I presume. Grigg will prove to be amongst our top 10 players by seasons end

Stevens is our second highest paid player. He'll play automatically.

Cant agree - Grigga earnt his place last year and nailed it down in the NAB cup so does not need 'promoting' as such. Walker may well come in too. Wiggo playing his best game ever may mean Fish has to cool his heels a little longer.

Where possible, I don't like the idea of giving young players only one game and then dropping them but it was done last year (can remember Edwards for one) so I think the changes will be

In: Grigg and Walker
Out: Garlett and Joseph

Considering Grigg is down as a test on the Carlton website, i'd look to give him one more week to get him 110% right. I'd be surprised if we made more than 1 change after last weeks effort.

For Grigg playing in the two would be more about developing match fitness rather than requiring him to earn his spot because I quiet agree that a fit Grigg deserves his spot in our line up.

Depth by extension can result in an unsettled team. Players being tried and dropped on a regular basis is not ideal. Sure, we can't expect 22 players to sit tight all year but I really would like to see some relative consolidation as the season progresses.

grigg is a top 10 player at CFC let alone top 22.

garlett/ russell/ joseph/ johnson can go for walker and grigg.

Yes but he only missed one match didn't he - and by all reports was nearly up for selection. If injury free - he won't lack fitness. Go Grigga.

I forgot about Johnson before but think they may be set on him as nominated kicker (at the very least another week until Stevo comes back) but he will have to improve his accountability - man on man work

Shame we can't play them all :( ...........

Axe to fall on unlucky Blues

CARLTON must this week find room for returning midfielders Andrew Walker and Shaun Grigg, aware it has no player deserving of the selection axe.

Walker pushed the case for a return from a shoulder injury with a brilliant VFL display for the Northern Bullants.

Grigg has overcome a hamstring strain and after an excellent pre-season is an automatic selection against Brisbane on Saturday at Etihad Stadium.

Both will play, but all of Carlton's fringe players performed against Richmond on Thursday.

First-gamers Mitch Robinson, Jeff Garlett and Sam Jacobs all did enough to hold their spots, and elevated rookie Aaron Joseph also looked at ease.

Midfielder Richard Hadley played his best game at Carlton with 22 possessions and an astounding 12 tackles, and the defence held up well against Richmond's forwards.

The situation will only worsen next week when Nick Stevens returns from suspension. Andrew Carrazzo is due to return from a broken arm in Round 3 or 4.

Carlton football manager Steven Icke said Walker was ready to play.

"He played very well in the VFL and he will be considered. Grigg was in the side up until he did his hamstring so we expect him to play," Icke said.

Captain Chris Judd missed training and a heavily-promoted TV appearance yesterday with a virus, but will train later this week and take on the Lions.

goddammer! :(

Russell the unlucky one for Walker -
Grigg another week in the ants
Pressure on the following week for spots like not seen in years. Lets hope injuries don't play their part and just form alone.

Nope not for AJ, hearing Ratts on OWAAT suggests that AJ can do that tagging job well and reckon he'l be on who ever we need against Brissy probably Luke Power. Be hesitant on dropping Garlett too.

It's time for players really need earn their spot in the seniors
I would like to see Walker back. But Fisher needs to play a couple more bullants game, he can only come back when he stops going down to the ground in every of his marking contest.
